Alto - Soprano?

Saw someone post way earlier re: contrabass/countertenor music, and so here’s my toss out:
I’m always on the lookout for good ‘duet’ music that /isn’t/ Indigo Girls. Not that I don’t like them, it’s just that I’d like a bit more diversity and a bit less granola and Birks.

I like all music genre’s, so don’t be shy.

Also, if it’s just single-song, that’s good too. Gimme Gimme.

The Roaches (On the soundtrack to Crossing Delancey)

I’ll take the blame.
The Kinleys do this sort of thing, but they aren’t doing so hot industry-wise right now; they’ve pretty much dropped off the radar. Same with the Lynns. Both are country.

I’ll think of some more unless someone beats me to it…

It’s The Roches (not Roaches, though it’s pronounced the same.)

And yes, they’re good.

Does it have to be an Alto/Soprano duet? Could you get away with, say, a Mezzo-Soprano/Soprano duet? (There are, like, tons of those in old operas.)

What I’m looking for is two part female harmony.

I’m not sure I can scale as high as a mezzo-soprano, but I don’t mind getting the names of the songs anyway!

Also-- thanks to everyone else as well. Were the Roches, by any chance, the group that had a song out in the late 80s… all I can remember is the video–they were three women hanging suspended in midair…and one of the lyrics might have been something like, “and that’s why I hate you”…though not 100 percent on that.

You might want to try The Four Bitchin’ Babes, a group of four female folk singers. I’ve also got some CDs by Christine Lavin, one of The Four Bitchin’ Babes which have some nice female harmony.
