Aluminum: Good for You, Bad for You or Neither?

I remember a little while back there was a controversy over aluminum and Alzheimer’s disease. Autopsies on Alzheimer’s patients reveals an unusual amount of aluminum in their brains. So when this first came out, some people wondered: Does this mean aluminum causes Alzheimer’s? Not so, said some people. It might just be a symptom–and in fact lack of aluminum might be the problem.

I am curious how this all turned out. Does aluminum cause Alzheimer’s? Or in a more general sense, is aluminum in fact good for all of us? Or is neither statement true?

Short answer - “There is no proof, and the current consensus is that aluminum does not play a major role in the development of Alzheimer’s disease.”
