Glad to see we have all 5 of Milanos listeners here
Joe Rogan has some interesting interviews.
I saw Neil de Grasse Tyson, high as a fucking kite, talking about space-time. That was worth all the bad shit I have seen.
Rogan’s obsession with chimpanzee videos stems from his attraction to dominance and power. In chimpanzee societies, he sees a model for humans to follow: Ur-Fascism. Everytime he mentions Bigfoot, it’s code for the Sudanese. When he announces fights for the UFC, he secretly frames all of them as race wars in ways that are almost imperceptible. He would love to be open about all of this, but there’s too much money on the table - so he drinks too much whiskey and smokes too much marijuana. It’s the only way he can appear to be friendly with minorities for so many years for so many hours at a time. Inside he is dying. That’s why he takes so many supplements.
Ha. Yeah that money. Makes me wonder why he gets all of that $ just for being stoned and “open minded” about stuff.
I think it’s a big $ investment of very strong and rich forces to grasp the audience of those who can be manipulated into being liberalism “scoffers” and even “haters”. It’s the only audience that’s left to fight over.
So he just dances on this line all the time. He can’t insult or confront illiberalism in his audience.
Isn’t the problem that her core audience is notably smaller than Rogan’s, though? I don’t dislike Milano and we’re probably on the same page politically about a lot of stuff. But I also don’t see any reason to give a special shit what she says about most things; she’s just another person with an opinion. From the outside (I’m no fan of Rogan’s either) she does come across as sounding petty or whiny about it and it makes me less inclined to want to listen to her. I’m sure the converted think she sounded totally spot on but her complaint is that she doesn’t have enough already converted listeners and I doubt this stuff helps.
There was one episode Rogan had that really opened my eyes to the problem with him. He had on this doctor, Peter Duesberg, who came on to talk about how AIDS is not caused by HIV; rather AIDS is caused by the lifestyle of sex and drugs that the gay community had in the past. Which is astoundingly ignorant, dangerous, and bigoted. (and in fact his theory was accepted by the government of South Africa which led to lots and lots of people getting aids and dying) But more than that-- it completely ignores scientific evidence. Yet in Rogan’s mind this guy (who Rogan didn’t agree with, by the way) is in some way a victim of the medical establishment which shot down his studies, looked into disciplining him, etc.
Here’s the thing, though. The guy didn’t have his license revoked. He still works as a professor at Berkeley, AFAICT – the latest I can find is that they considered disciplining him in 2010 but didn’t find enough evidence of intentional wrongdoing to do so. And the reason that the guy got so much pushback is that that’s exactly how science works-- if you publish bunk that isn’t supported by evidence your study will be slaughtered in peer review. But Rogan treated the guy like a victim.
Worse, on the episode Rogan had a second guest; one presenting the opposing ‘status quo’ view that AIDS is caused by the HIV virus. And guess what that guy’s credentials were? That’s right – absolutely nothing.
Now if Rogan had had this guy on his show and that was that, then that would be one thing. He’s not a medical expert; he had someone on his show to present a viewpoint; great. But in later episodes Rogan harped on how much ‘hate’ this guy got and how that’s terrible and tragic. But here’s the thing. This guy is talking about a factual matter, not a matter of opinion. And he is totally, utterly, proveably WRONG. And his misinformation has caused real harm to real people. He deserves all the criticism he gets. Rogan doesn’t get that.
He knows there is science there, and he agrees with it on the show apparently, but his real job is to hightlight and amplify the “problems” that liberalism has (Like Maher does too on occasion) into the ecosystem to massage a mass audience base to feel that the world is just a chaotic mess and you might as well vote Right. Why not? It’s fun. What are we sissies?
Here is a phrase that makes me glad I’m not a fan. I have no idea what sort of person would be “obsessed with chimpanzee videos,” and don’t want to.
She sounds like “why don’t my songs get as many plays in Spotify as BTS. I sing better. They’re just a bunch of over-produced kid. Not fair!!!”
That would include Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson.
Actually, I watched a few minutes of that interview. Before this excerpt, he relates how he was criticized by atheists for wishing an astronaut friend “Godspeed”.
okay first of all this phrase [Godspeed] is deeply historical in the space program. when John Glenn was launched the headline was god speed John Glenn and every mission where we sent human beings into space somewhere there is that reference in the NASA family.
Then he went on to give an amateur origin and application of the phrase to the space program. And Rogan ate it up.
As for Alyssa, when Trump said he’d send all illegal aliens to sanctuary cities, she (and Cher) tweeted something like “Not fair! You’re punishing us!” (not realizing what they were saying.
Alyssa is less respectable than Rogan.
Please…NDT will show up anywhere there’s a mic. But yes, I may have painted with a broad brush when saying no one with respect in their field would go on his show.
But, Rogan plays at being fair and balanced. He had on that epidemiologist mentioned above, to cover his ass when he has anti vaxer’s like Jenny McCarthy on, or so he can talk about all the CT’s surrounding the virus. And that neuroscientist to talk about nootropics; the latest bit of quakery with a smidgen of actual science behind it.
And for every Bernie Sanders he has on he also has a Jordan Peterson, Candace Owens, Steven Crowder, Gavin McInnis, or Milo Yianoppoulos on.
He’s an intellectually stunted, homophobic, transphobic, unfunny stoner. And apparently America finds him endlessly entertaining. Go figure.
Yeah – it’s sad because the episodes where he has people whose thoughts are actually worth listening to are generally pretty good.
Even when he has a total moron on – like when he had pseudoarcheologist Graham Hancock on (like 8 times, guy is a frequent flier) to ramble about how Atlantis was on Antarctica until the Younger Dryas Impact (which he has 0 evidence for of course) knocked them back to the stone age and froze the south pole (doesn’t explain how we have antarctic ice cores older than the alleged impact, but Hancock never let facts get in the way of peddling his book) – at least that’s a fairly harmless delusion and kinda entertaining, in the same “point and laugh” way that listening to Coast to Coast on a late night drive is entertaining.
But when the science you’re disregarding isn’t about mammoths and Atlantis, it’s about COVID or AIDS, you’ve gone waaaaay too far.
“Who’s The Boss?” – not her.
The way I read it was more that she considers herself superior to Rogan and his audience, which came across as snooty, condescending and whiny.
