Am downloading Safari Web browser for my Vista PC. Any good? (Need answer fast)

I decided to succum to the message from the apple updater thing to install the safari web browser.

I don’t dislike IE. I do dislike firefox for being bloated and taking too long to load and being unfamiliar.

So what might I make of safari?
edit: Too slow It’s down.

For a start, it doesn’t seem to render a sdmb thread properly. No box to add a post. no edit button.
edit2: Well that might be because you’re not logged in on safari you idiot! (doh)
edit3: this edit courtesy of safari.

edit4: (dare I try another edit?) it is uncluttered - which is good.

It apparently has some problems.

One thing that Safari has going for it (at least on the Mac) is the re-sizable text fields, like this Quick Reply one I’m typing in right now.

You should see a little triangular dragger doo-hickey in the bottom right corner. Great for using Quick Reply on largish posts.

I got it when it was in beta stage. I like minimal, but it’s almost like it was…too minimal. Too much gray just sitting there. Get rid of the gray and give me more room to look at stuff.

It wasn’t bad, other than that, though. I like the progress/address bar.

“The latest version of Safari for Windows makes a mockery of end user licensing agreements by only allowing the installation of Safari for Windows on Apple labeled hardware, thereby excluding most Windows PCs.”

My PC is a typical custom-built PC with no apple labeled parts. Safari installed hassle free on it.

And one thing I like (which I see as I type this reply) is that it is underlining my spelling mistakes as I go along. I know firefox does that, but I dislike firefox for the above mentioned reasons.

Have the security issues referred to in the Slashdot article I linked been resolved?

You mean…like…a Windows program has the three little lines in the bottom right corner?

They’re not there on my ‘windows’. I think he means the quick-reply edit box. I can make it bigger on safari but not on IE.

This raises a question for me: Why can’t I load an Apple OS onto my PC? I dual boot between Vista and XP. Why hasn’t apple made it possible to install an apple OS on my PC?

You see, because I might be averse to buying apple hardware, but I’m not necessarily averse to buying/using apple software

I’ve been on a Mac since 2005 and I never noticed that! (Not that I’ve needed it.)

Why is that? I thought the “beauty” of the Apple is that Apples makes/certifies all of the hardware then builds the software (the OS) to work on that. One of the reasons Windows can be craptacular is that it’s meant to run with any old bit of hardware you toss in the mix which in turn messes up Windows.

Apple = Apple Hardware + Apple Sofware ( - iTunes - Quicktime).

OSX is not going to be OSX without Apple under the hood.

I just rebuilt my OS and installed Firefox 3 Beta 4 and it’s much cleaner and less bloated than Firefox 2. So far I’m a fan. Might be worth looking into.

Because Apple is a hardware company. When you buy their hardware, you get the OS for free.

I tried Safari a few months ago along with several other browsers for the PC. It was defintely the worst.

If you’re used to tabbed browsing, it was just plain terrible. Safari didn’t get the concept at all and will not open a new tab unless you hold down Ctrl click.

I’ve heard there is an improved version, but it’s rendering looks weird on Windows machines due to their refusal to use Cleartype.
