Am I overreacting to this comment?

Well, I can’t wrap my brain around any women being in a Gay Men’s Chorus. Hello! If you want the chicks in the mix, wouldn’t you just call it a Chorus? If it’s a gay men’s chorus, the first order of business would be that it be comprised of gay men.

Whilst prior comments about photographic evidence may or may not have been out of line, the highlighted comment above most certainly demands such proof be offered up for scrutiny.

I was just saying that if the OP’s breasts were the type that stop traffic, then maybe the guy making the comment should be cut some slack.

I realize that a lot of people see it that way, but that’s not really the issue at hand here. I got into the Chorus on my own terms (I’m sure the director wouldn’t have let me in if I couldn’t sing the tenor parts), so that’s the baseline situation.

This was pretty much the main argument by those of us who wanted to exclude women. We, as gay men, have a sort of commonality of identity and experience, and it behooves us to sing with that one singular voice. We didn’t want to dilute that voice by becoming a “Gay Men and a Couple of Chicks’ Chorus.”

Those who wanted to admit female singers spoke about things like “inclusion” and “non-discrimination” and “reaching out to a larger community.” Though I sympathized with what they were saying, they didn’t win me over.

But there are Gay Men’s Choruses in other cities (and countries) who do include female singers. They don’t sound any different but, to me, it’s not the same experience.

And by the way, we do notice women’s breasts, especially if “They’re real. And they’re spectacular.”

Camelot, perhaps a conclusion here is that ALL men look at breasts, whether they are vocal or not,so you’re ready if and when it happens again.
Personally,I can’t imagine a context where I’d say such a thing.Panache 45 likely nailed it.

Pixisis, that’s a beautiful sunset.

Camelot: Since your Dad was a long-term member of the chorus, I’m assuming he is gay, and your friendship with the Director is based on that as well. If this is the case, even if you were included on sheer vocal chops, it does bring up the children of gay parents as an issue of inclusion in the community. I’d think that would be important subject to bring up with the Chorus. Are you welcome or not, and is being the child of a gay parent important in the (thankfully) development of an accepting community, regardless of gender? I’m assuming, so correct me if wrong.

Aside from that, my wiseass response, in take with Pixisis’ type of smart reply, and, if the guy was being funny and not creepy/intimidating : “Jeesus, Honey, just shut up and look at the music, or you’ll get us both thrown out.”

Does this help any?

There was a sunset?
