Am I the ONLY one just a tad irritated with the media over War difficulties??

I am very tired of hearing in the media how “the American people are anxious and dismayed” that Osama Bin Laden and his network and the Taliban haven’t been irradicated or captured. WTF!!! I think you would have to be COMPLETELY ignorant arrogant to think that you can walk into a foreign country “cold” - especially one as big as Texas and expect to totally know every nook and cranny and have total control over it. Dudes – do you realize how vast and large Afghanistan is? Probably a more correct analogy would be Alaska – although it is bigger – it gives a more accurate picture of how vast, remote, and how few people there are there (there cities are even quite small). Do you know how many places one could hide in such an area? You could be camped out somewhere for months undisturbed! It is not like taking the train from D.C. to Baltimore or some such ease and luxury like that! It’ll take time - lots, but we will prevail – I know that, just have patience (although I’ll go out on a limb here and say that I think that most everyday american doesn’t think it’s a quick deal to irradicate these people) – why is the media so impatiate? Are they bored and have nothing to report on? I just get irritated in seeing reporters say how “this is tougher than we thought…” That who thought? You?? Now, I absolutely not only approve of our actions, but realize how vital it is for our country to go after these terrorists. I’m also realistic and know about what we are dealing with. It won’t be easy, and it won’t be quick, but it will be done - I’m assured of that! So, reporters, get your heads out of your asses and don’t assume that all the americans are so “shocked” that this is going to take some time…

Is that the same as “incontinent”? :stuck_out_tongue:

But seriously, I feel the same way. Here is a very good article on the same subject, for those whom I have not e-mailed it to already. I’m very disappointed for the national-level members of my profession. Their coverage of what is really going on is simply atrocious. I really have no idea what is going on in Asia, I’m not sure how it affects me, I don’t have even a vague idea what the Gov’t objectives are (altthough that could be the Gov’t’s fault). I don’t have the foggiest notion of Who, Where, Why, What, When, of How. And I’m not asking to know classified military information, either. I just want a passing familiarity about what’s happening. Instead, on the the NYTime’s webpage the lead stories are the World Series and our national unemployment rate. The Wash. Post? Virtually identical, with a one-half-of one percent increase in unemployment described as “the highest unemployment rate the nation has seedn since 1996.” Good heavens! All this progress, and we’re sent back to 1996 levels!! Whatever will we do?!

I always like how the media can tell how “the American people” feel, apparently by looking at what the media is saying. Nice logic there, guys!

What is WITH the fucking media these days? Starting about a week after That Day they start talking about anthrax. Anthrax anthrax anthrax anthrax anthrax anthrax anthrax anthrax anthrax anthrax anthrax anthrax anthrax anthrax anthrax anthrax anthrax anthrax anthrax. Where to buy it, how to grow it, what to do with it, forms of it, dropping it from airplanes and mailing it to grandma.

THEN - big fucking surprise - someone mails some to Tom Brokaw & other assorted talking heads. SURPRISE, ASSHOLES! Suuuuure, maybe the terrorists already knew about this stuff but you have just spent two goddamned weeks telling every other loose screw, nut, and flake in the country how to do this!. Remember Mr. McVeigh? Oklahoma City? PLEASE do not encourage our home-grown fruitcakes while we are trying to conduct a bizzarro war, OK?

THEN, after all these fuckups dose themselves with antibiotics (while telling us not to stock up on them, not necessary, oh no…) they start talking about smallpox Where it is, how deadly it is, best way to spread it if you get it…

Will you please shut the FUCK up!

NOW, with the “temporary” flight restrictions over nuclear sites across the country, they’re at it again. Big thing on last night’s news about how all you need to do is drain the cooling pond around spent fuel rods and —

CAN WE SHUT THESE FUCKERS UP? DOESN’T ANYONE REMEMBER “LOOSE LIPS SINK SHIPS”? WHAT THE FUCK ARE THESE ASSHOLES THINKING?

We should forbid antibiotics and vaccinations to these people and force them to sleep downwind of nuclear facilities. After numbing their vocal cords.

No, you’re not alone.

I’m so sick of it, I’ve stopped watching CNN because of that reason alone.

Jesus, we’re in this for the long haul. It won’t be over in twenty-four days or whatever timeline it is they want.

Maybe they simply want it ‘over’ fast so they can spend the next umpteen years talking about how we didn’t fullfill the mission there and we essentially ineffective at anything we do.

Jerks.

Hey, this is the capitalist media - they have a new product to flog… they are going to get as much mileage out of it as possible.

Just think how much they have been able to charge for advertising as of late, of course they are going to try to create demand for their product. And don’t forget, the parade of talking heads is CHEAP television.

I’ve been thinking the same thing, mmjewett.

This campaign is a marathon not a 100 yard dash.
There will be plenty of setbacks and periods where it seems like we’re not making much progress.

Anyone who thinks we can win this war overnight is a fool.

Funny to see this rant: Just this morning on the Today show, Perky Couric was interviewing a retired general consultant and laid this on him: “Fifty-six percent of Americans say the war in Afghanistan is not proceeding as quickly as they expected. How do you think this lack of support will affect the government’s actions?”

Huh? Since when did “This is going as quickly as I thought it would” translate to “I don’t support this”? Is English not her first language? Apparently, as long as you throw in some poll data, it really doesn’t matter if that poll data says what you say it says.

Well, when you consider the fact that these idiots can’t understand English, it doesn’t surprise me that they went overboard with this.

I can’t begin to count how many times I heard President Bush tell the media that his administration was not going to discuss things that would affect National Security in several press conferences, only to have another numb-nuts ask a question related to National Security!

The media on an average day pisses me off by telling the general public how murders were done, how to spread disease, how to breach security all over the place, etc.

Just the other night, I was watching the news and the talking head said they would not play the video taped message from OBL because they were afraid his operatives in the US might get information from it. So what do they do? They mention several sentences from the tape!! How the hell do they know this wasn’t “in code” like they feared?

What idiots!! Makes me think of Don Henley’s song “Dirty Laundry”…
