Well, if you don’t like one candidate and you don’t want to vote directly for the other major candidate, you vote for the relevant third-party candidate.

I was really hoping Ruben would have gotten kicked off this week. He’s so popular that I don’t think Fox would let him go even if he did get the lowest number of votes, though.
He has a really annoying habit of singing the same song every week with different words - practically everything sounds the same. Now, as a die-hard Clay fan, I’ll admit that the others have had this problem in the past, too, but they’ve worked beyond it (witness Clay and Kim Locke), and Ruben hasn’t. At all.
Granted, Trenyce was probably a better choice to go than Ruben, but with Lance Corporal Dumbass up there, they both should have been safe. Stupid America.

Lets say some dumbass that thinks Ruben is great. Well by the way the judges give him a free pass you figure that he is a shoe-in so you switch your dumbass vote to a second choice or divert the dumbass vote away from a candidate that you think is out for sure so why waste it.

Well you know what, I think that his fans have shifted because he was offering them crap. Why does everyone think that this is a stragegic voting thing anyway? It could be that everyone realized that “breaking up is hard to do” sucked huge.

I won’t be either. Now that Trenyce is gone and Ruben is now vulnerable, it’ll be a little easier for me to decide how to vote now.

Because people wanted Josh GONE and so either voted for Trenyce(which I did A LOT) or Kimberly(I did a little bit) to save BOTH those girls while getting rid of him. The Trenyce and K.Lo fans were more than willing to throw a few votes each other’s way to ensure this. It appearantly worked with Carmen, so both sides thought it would work on Josh. I guess no one was counting on a slew of Josh voters voting the full two hours for him alone.
Most people figured that Ruben wouldn’t even be in the bottom two, so he wasn’t a concern. Until now…

The tragedy is that Trenyce is gone. That can’t be undone. Josh is going to go sonner or later but Trenyce deserved better that what she got.

And yes, Ruben is becoming quite the bore. However, in his defense, it’s not entirely his fault, but the fault of the “judges” who never, ever offer him any constructive criticism like they do the other contestants. It’s so contradictory. They obviously want him to win, or think he will. But by not suggesting improvements or acknowledging his errors, they’re actually hurting him more than helping him. And really, I’m shocked that they find him entertaining at all! They didn’t understand the voting audience’s putting him in the bottom 2 and I don’t understand how they can not get it.
He sings good enough to be tweaked in a sound studio and cut a beautiful CD (so long as someone tells him to stop whining his way through those long, stupid runs!). But he’s a big, boring lump on stage, and it’s like someone on the TWoP board said, there’s no way I’d ever pay to see him stand in one spot, begging me not to take his baby away for 2 hours!
Saddened? Just because some people enjoy following this show and discussing the contestants and their performances? Yes, I like American Idol, and I’ve been watching the show from pretty much the beginning so I do know who Ruben, Clay, and Kim are. Why does that “sadden” you?
If you happen to dislike a certain show, by all means, go ahead. But I don’t think you need to be condescending towards people who do.
Who the hell imply that you personally would be interested in this thread? There are threads on thousands of topics, and most of us aren’t interested in most of them. When you open a thread and discover it’s deals with a topic you’re not interested in, you move along. What you don’t do is stop to insult others for being interested in that topic. You are actually “insulted” by the fact that some Dopers want to discuss a TV show you don’t like?? What the fuck is wrong with you?
I actually caught this weeks show. I was entertained by most of them, but Josh has got to go. Out out out out out! Why didn’t any of the judges tell him that he’s a cutie, he’s a brave boy, but that he sings FLAT and needs to stop or get off the stage?
The rest of them were fun. So instead of booting Josh, we lost Trenyce? That sucks.

I agree about 100,000%. What people see in Ruben is “Huggy Bear”, the “205” stuff(which I’m sick of) and the fact that he generally has a perfect voice. I think his best performance was “Kiss me and Say Goodbye”. He’s gotten complacent lately, but I don’t think that’s going to happen again.
But, I fear there’ll be a backlash against him as well as Josh, so who knows what will happen next week.
