who thinks that when the beautiful actors get ‘dolled up’ and wear the expensive dresses and borrowed diamonds and distinctive hairstyles , they actually look far less attractive?
YES!
Sometimes the casual look is so much more attractive—on men and women.
No, you’re not the only one. Although I do like a bit of attention to looks and clothing and hair, the all-out gala performance thing does indeed only make people look artificial. Can’t see the attraction in that either.
So do look less attractive but some of them really carry it off.
I think it’s great when they doll up for the awards shows and such. It’s fun to get dressed up and show off the goods.
I think most of the dresses seen at awards shows are appallingly tacky. But then, I find blue jeans and t-shirts far sexier than sequined gowns on most women.
Some do, some don’t. Personally, I’m not sure anybody would notice Pamela Anderson without all that shit. You’ll note, she never appears in public without it. But Catherine Zet-Jones, Salma Hayek, and Kate Huson need no help.
I’ve always liked, and will probably continue to prefer, the natural “lazy sunday” look on women… clean skin, clean hair, short clean nails, flannel jammie bottoms and Tshirts… far sexier than hair extensions, red-whorish lips and posed smiles.
Getting all dolled-up adds years to a woman’s face – period. And it’s not just actors on award shows, etc. These makovers they do on on ordinary people in magazines and on talkshows? Nine times out of 10, the person looked better (especially younger) in the “before” than in the “after”.
Eh, I think Halle Berry looked fantastic in her dress last year. It’s fun to check out what the celebs are wearing, good and bad.
For “normal” people, I think neat looks best, whether it’s casual or nice.
I have to say that in the magazine pictures I have seen, when some stars leave the house in “casual” dress, it makes me think they don’t have mirrors! Talk about tacky and ugly! Please, go put on that $10,000 dress and do your make-up and hair! Anything is better than the mismatched slop some of them wear. Maybe it’s a rebellion against dolling up, but it doesn’t work.
Meg Ryan almost always looks cute, same with Michelle Pfieffer. Kate Hudson is starting to dress like her husband, God help her.
I think Pamela Anderson is one fine example of completely tacky and overdone. The last time I looked at her, I wanted to have at her with a washcloth and rub off all that gunk. Even with the plastic surgery (too much of it), I’m sure there’s a pretty girl somewhere underneath there.
jr8 I think that is true for most male actors as well.
It’s good to see stars dressed up to the nines, especially when they make a fumble of it, lets us non-stars feel OK about looking goofey.
Cheers, Bippy
Doubt it.
Although, to be fair, in a recent issue of People magazine, there was a shot of her in Heathrow with little make-up, her hair in a ponytail, wearing a neat trenchcoat over pants, and she looked very nice. Frankly, I didn’t recognize her at all.
Men at least have an advantage with regard to formal wear – you have to work pretty hard to look bad in your basic tuxedo.
Well, you’re comparing apples and oranges. Most dress outfits for women show more skin than normal clothes–it’s all about attracting attention using what’s INSIDE, so the clothing is essentially secondary. But the Tux is complete packaging, and nothing else. If men had to use their bodies the way women do, you’d see some radical shifts in. . . . something.
What I don’t understand is why some of them show up in such incredibly awful outfits for awards shows. You have an unlimited budget, a perfect body, and an army of stylists; how can these people still get it so wrong? How can they not see how terrible they look?
Like maybe Sharon Stone at the Golden Globes? Wait, she was plastered, she really couldn’t see how terrible she looked!
True enough. Watching one of the thousands of recent UK awards shows, I began to realize why Marks & Spencers was going out of business – none of the female celebrities was wearing underwear. Including several who really really should have been wearing a bra at the very least. Nothing says “glamour” like having your tits down around your navel, I guess…
For me, it’s usually the hairstyles that look awful. It’s like all of them are trying to outdo each other to be noticed, but I only notice how they have covered up their attractiveness with a phony looking, hideous dress and and out of place set of jewlery.
I think they shoul all just stroll down the red carpet nekkid. THEN I’d watch the E! news coverage!
I don’t mind the makeup and gowns. The anti-style hair-dos many of them sport, these days, on the other hand, make me want to dopeslap them. There is NO ONE who is so attractive that they “can get away with it”. It just looks terrible. Always.
And, don’t even get me started on the men in their tuxes with greasy, skanky, uncombed hair, three days of stubble, and faces that look they haven’t been washed in days! If this were truly attractive, we wouldn’t all have showers and bathtubs.
