Am I the only Star Wars fan that could give a rat's ass about the new cartoons?

The Prince of Egypt was 2D and made $218,613,188.
The Ten Commandments was 3D (and God awful) and made less than $1 million.

I’m just talking about animation.

So am I. The reason that The Ten Commandments failed in large part was because of the low quality 3D animation. It was disturbing.

Are you talking about the 1956 film, or is there some kind of Pixar remake I don’t know about?

This:

Ok, now that I look at the RT entry, I vaguely remember something about it. The exception that proves the rule I guess – and of course, the movies were released almost ten years apart. Prince of Egypt was one of the last big 2D Disney epics.

3D is cheaper (by a smidge) and can be done in the USA. Hand-drawn animation has to be done in Korea nowadays to be affordable. Outsourcing brings management difficulties and costs.

Dreamworks, actually. Their first animated movie.

It might be as awesome as the Droids and Ewoks series, right? We can only hope…

So…is it a re-telling of the 2D Clone Wars cartoon Cartoon Network already aired a few years ago, or is it filling in yet even more gaps?

As I recall, the first Clone Wars series took place right after episode II, and the second one took place right before episode III. So does this take place between the first and second series?

Son? You mean Jabba the Hut has sex? Oh, ick! Seriously, mega-ick!

That train left the station, burned down, fell over and sank into the swamp when we found out that Annikin built C3PO.

Ironically, the animation in this trailer reminded me of a poorer knock-off of earlier Dreamworks 3D animation (as in Ice Age) which was no great shakes itself. Clunky wood-carving hair doesn’t do much for me.

Ice Age was by Blue Sky Studios, not Dreamworks.

I really like the Ice Age stylisation, but the Clone Wars style looks decidedly dirty, which I find unpleasant to look at. It’ll probably be fine in context, though.
