Am I the only Star Wars fan that could give a rat's ass about the new cartoons?

The 3-D animated Clone Wars movie and cartoon series, that is. I get Google News Alerts about anything with “cartoon” in the title, and all I see are fan-wank reviews about it.

Don’t get me wrong—I would pay $40 a ticket to see a feature-length Genndy Tartakovsky-animated Clone Wars movie. (In fact, I’d pay $1000 to see him re-write and re-do Episodes I, II, and III as cartoons.) But this 3-D nonsense just looks crappy, crappy, crappy. Lego Star Wars looks better.

There are new cartoons?

That is exactly what I thought when I read the OP. I googled and found the trailer. It looks like it might make for a fun movie. Not good enough to need to see the midnight showing (as I enjoyed doing for all of the prequels) but good enough for a matinée. Hey, yoda and light saber fights - that is bound to be pretty fun.

ps:
Here’s the trailer

Wait, so you could give a rat’s ass, or you couldn’t give a rat’s ass?

Actually looks like it could be fun. Lucas isn’t writing or directing, so there is potential.

It is also a kickoff for the upcoming animated tv series.

Another fan of the first three movies popping in to say “Cartoons? What cartoons?”

I have very mixed feelings about the new movie. The main characters look like wooden marionettes. And the story: Jabba the Hutt’s son gets kidnapped. Jabba the Hutt’s son gets kidnapped. Really?

It looks pretty cheesy to me. It looks like something you’d see on Cartoon Network a 3 A.M.

Either way. A rat’s ass isn’t much. Let’s say I couldn’t give an elephant’s ass, that’s for sure.

Yes, you are the only one.

The Clone Wars cartoon – the 2D, not the 3D – was brilliant. It turned the mediocre prequel setting into something awesome.

I don’t have Quicktime, but I found the trailer on Youtube. I don’t know what you’re all griping about, it looks good to me. It doesn’t look realistic, no, and wasn’t intended to; it looks like a 2D cartoon given a third dimension, and in that light it’s not unappealing. I’ll probably watch it.

I’m not really all that enthusiastic, either. But then, I still haven’t seen any of the “prequels” in their entirety, either. I kind of prefer to spend time with the better parts of the Extended Universe and try to forget that Lucas did anything outside the IV, V, and VI.

You know what? When this idea first came around and they floated the “3D” look of the characters, I thought “bleccccchh” and a little part of my Jedi soul died. But seeing that trailer…well, it’s not that bad! Color me surprised.

I’ll probably wait for some reviews to come in, but right now I’m leaning towards seeing it. I feel like my Midichlorian count just grew three sizes!

I’ll wait for the DVD.

I am a big fan of both Star Wars and 3D animation, but I really don’t have much desire to see this on the “big screen”.

Then again, I see very few movies in cinemas these days, so it would have to be very special (or free) to get me in there.

Just rewatched it in HD format. Looks even better. One of the things that touched my fan nerve in the original miniseries was Obi-Wan in Arc Trooper armor, and it looks like that carried over to the movie. Obi-Wan wishes he was that badass in Episodes I, II, and III.

Bear in Mind; none of the voices are of the lead actors; No Sam Jackson, McGregor, Christensen…

Seriously, can anyone give me one reason why this movie exists, other than to make a shitpile of cash?

One reason. Anyone. Is the story worthwhile? Some bullsht about Jabba the Hutt’s son being kidnapped? is it just me, or does the fact that all these stories kinda keep featuring the same characters make the Star Wars universe feel really, really small? Whats the bets that Jango/ Boba Fett shows up too?

I dont need anymore prequel movies. The story is TOLD. I dont need anymore information. If I do, I’ll buy some of the novels. This movie is for CASH COLLECTION ONLY. If they want my money, make an animated episodes 7, 8, 9.

No Sam Jackson? He’s listed as being in it, along with Anthony Daniels. So is Matthew Wood.

Clone Wars

Isn’t that exactly the same reason all of the Star Wars movies exist? And all the books? And video games? And toys? And…

This is the main reason why I’d consider seeing it. Back in the day I was skeptical about the 2D cartoons, but I ended up really enjoying them - FAR superior to the big-screen prequels!

I don’t understand the 3D transformation though. Why not just put out a 2D animated film in the same style? I don’t think the 3D adds anything, at least not based on the trailer. The choice seems more weird than anything.

3D always makes more money than 2D, regardless of quality.
