I really liked the Amanda show (watched it with my daughter.) Amanda did a decent job being a 15 y.o. Carol Burnett.
But the transition to adult actress has not been a big success, so I guess this is a publicity bid.
She does sound like an idiot in the Maxim clip.
Also, the interview is right before the photo shoot, which features what she’s wearing. It’s not a “normal” outfit, but what they had her wear for the cover/feature/whatever. No different then interviewing a Victoria’s Secret or swimsuit model wearing their “costumes.”
I’m torn on this.
I thought that “What I Like About You” was a decent enough CW show, and Bynes showed a lot of promise. I thought her comedic timing was absolutely excellent, especially for someone her age, and she showed a fair amount of range. And she’s adorable. Absolutely adorable. But that outfit - what the hell? I understand it’s Maxim. But Maxim’s now a last resort, get my career back on track by breathing some sexy life into it. It’s base. She’s a decent actor - it’s sad to see her here.

(Revivng an old thread rather than starting a new one) but this appears to be the case considering her recent ‘tweet’ that she’s retiring from acting.
Is retiring from acting at 24 the new way of saying “I can’t get work anymore.”
Why should it be?
It may well be that she’s decided that it’s not worth the effort anymore, or that she’d rather study Renaissance poetry or the higher maths.

I actually watched one of her films, “She’s The Man,” as it was the movie playing on a flight I was on and I had nothing else to do.
If that film is indicative of her acting skill, it’s a good thing she quit acting, because her acting was Van Damme-level terrible. It was one of the worst lead performances I have ever seen in an honest-to-God feature film.
As to her retirement - assuming it sticks, as after all the woman is only 24 and might change her mind in a few years - she’s a millionaire. Maybe she wants to spend more time with her money and just doesn’t like acting. Study higher math? All she has to do is know how to count by hundreds. Her parents pushed her into it when she was a child, and she may just be really damned sick of it.
wow I just saw that on cable the other day and I thought it was quite funny. I laughed aloud in some places. I think she has decent quality comedy chops.
I also have no idea of who she is… but she looks a bit like Miley Cyrus, doesn’t she?
Sorry Amanda…I can only do the texting and Amanda need to have a crash course in polite conversation!
She does. She’s not bad in Hairspray and quite good in What a Girl Wants. She’s charismatic and charming and I think not making movies and spending a few years out of the limelight is probably a good move for her personally. Its harsh to grow up under the camera lens. Give a few years and I think she’ll make a good romantic comedy starlet - should she decide to pursue it.

She is beloved by people who grew up on 90s Nickelodeon, though. And she played a sweetheart character.

I also like when she writes: “The New York Times Magazine article about M.I.A. today is amazing she’s a good role model” – that article pretty strongly implied that M.I.A. was a poser and ruthless self-promoter with a simplistic, naïve view of politics that she exploits to gain attention. M.I.A., at least, was smart enough to be pissed off.
