Is it really easier to swim while pulling a boat than to row it? Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of a boat? I got a chuckle out of how Tom (or Terry, I wasn’t able to tell who was who) kept talking about it like the guy had run into a burning building to save a roomful of toddlers. “I just couldn’t believe it when he jumped in and started pulling the boat. I just know I’ll love him forever!”
Sarah seemed like she really had something to prove, jumping in to take the Roadblock challenge before Peter could really get a word out. I agree that Peter looks like a dick, but I didn’t like how they made it appear in the previews last week that he completely bailed on the pulling the nets out of the water task. I also noticed that they cut out his helping Sarah up onto the junk (you could just briefly see that he had done so. Sarah also gave the impression that she never contemplated quitting while doing the ascender Roadblock, but she clearly did just that. I think we’re getting an amplified picture of Peter’s insensitivity. Perhaps they’re trying to make him into the Jonathan of the series?
I’m still thinking Mary is pretty unpleasant. What is with the hugging of everyone? Appreciating different cultures does also mean respecting others’ boundaries. I do respect that her response to being in different cultures is not to freak out and get defensive. But the “my leg is killing me/no I’m just gonna stand here because you’re not my boss” bit kinda illustrated to me that she is bullshitting about her leg and she continues to be nasty to David.
I know there are a lot of posters here who like her, but to me she comes across as a harpy and somewhat of a shrew.
The bit with her foot seems passive-aggressive to me.
When David was talking about going to Vietnam and seeing where his father had served, she cut in and snapped at him to go faster. She just rubs me the wrong way.
I like the Cho brothers, and the Beauty Queens are not nearly as annoying as I thought they’d be. They’ve made a couple of stupid mistakes, but if they calm down and just think, they might have a chance.
I still like Mary, just not so much when she’s interacting with David. It could be, that she’s being short tempered with him because, he’s a big reminder that this amazing adventure she’s on, is temporary, then back to rural KY.
Yeah, at the end, he said “I don’t know what posessed him to just jump in the water and start pulling the boat!” I mentally finished that with, “Especially because there was a perfectly good pair of oars right here.”
I cannot stand women like her. Her husband digs coal all day, one of the nastiest jobs there is, and she is a self-professed “couch potato” who verbally abuses him.
I know a number of couples like this, and I can’t find much sympathy for the men in the relationship either. WTF were you thinking?
A psychiatrist could make a career out of untangling a mess like their relationship.
I’m enjoying Mary way more than I expected. In the season premiere, that accent and that voice was seriously grating on me, along with the little interview clip where she said that women in her area of the world defer to their men. Yeesh. Her level of enjoyment in the trip is causing me to warm up to her, and I’m amused at how little relationship to reality her perspective on deference to her husband is.
I’m also warming up to Sarah. Peter though is a complete ass, and is certainly getting the “ass” edit. No way would they being editing to show him lazing back with the soft drink while she was struggling up the hill unless the editors were rather unfond of him.
I was sorry to see Tom & Terry go. I was impressed with their determination at the end.
