She clearly wasn’t blocked from performing her task by the elevator being tied up. There was a staircase there. The only thing keeping her from doing it was her own laziness.
To be honest, both Kent and Vixen (yes I know about the spelling) and Nate and Jen deserved to lose the race. They both did such a poor job of strategising and clue-reading that it should have been a double-elimination race. That being said, the Goths truly got unlucky. Jen forgets about the receipts completely but is reminded by the apartment owner and is able to quickly recover but Kent you gets receipts has to go back to get the CORRECT receipts.
BTW and I know nobody cares but I won the Cad household TAR bet since I have Ron and Christina and the Goths were the last team that I needed to be knocked out.
I thought it was unfair that some teams had elevators in their buildings and some didn’t.
As for the decision to U-Turn Nick and Don, I thought it was stupid until I realized that K&V left the newsstand first, so they had no idea who was ahead of or behind them. I agree that they should have U-Turned Nate and Jen, but I can see their point; they saw Nate and Jen leave the detour ahead of them and them might have assumed that the other teams would be slower than Nate and Jen. I just really really wanted to see them U-turned.
As it turned out, Kynt lost the leg all by himself by messing up the Roadblock. To be honest, when it asked for somebody with a strong back, I though V should have taken it.
Anyway, I’m now rooting for Nick and Don, with the hippies a close second. The others can leave now.
Are we missing an obvious strategy here? If you get to the U-Turn and don’t know who’s behind you, just stand there and wait. When you see someone coming, put their picture on the board and keep going.
There are so many details about the rules that we don’t know. There was a clue box right next to the U-Turn. They probably can’t read the clue first, but could they look in the box to count the envelopes so they’d know how many teams had been there?
And if no one’s behind you, you stand there at the U Turn forever. And then Phil has to make a long and lonely journey out to the location. In this instance, at least from the dialogue, it didn’t appear that K&V were 100% sure that anyone was behind them. Standing there if you’re not sure that there are any teams left to U-Turn is a bad idea. The strategy here was to U-Turn the team that was most likely to be behind you, on the theory that at least you’ve seen that team recently.
On previous Yield legs, the clue box has IIRC been placed some distance behind the clue box. It seems fairly certain that the tasks must be done in the order in which Racers encounter them. Yield/U-Turn first, then clue box. I believe we have also seen evidence that more clue envelopes are placed in the boxes than are needed, as on at least one occasion a team took a second clue after losing/dropping theirs and we got no indication that there weren’t enough clue envelopes left for everyone to get one. If there are exactly as clue envelopes in the boxes as there are remaining teams, then all of the Racers who, upon grabbing a clue and exclaiming that they have no idea where they are in relation to the other teams, are all irredeemably dumb.
True, but if no one is behind you, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll be eliminated anyway. If there is someone behind you, you send them back to do the other Detour task and unless you really screw up, you won’t be last.
And I’m not saying to wait there forever. They had to know Nate and Jen were close, either just ahead of them or just behind. The way it happened, give it 10-15 minutes, maybe.
We see from the episode, though, that last place doesn’t mean you’re out. Kynt and Vyxsin did the Speed Bump and got to the Garland Detour (I’m trying to resist calling that the “Herron” because no one will know what it means. Well, maybe jayjay.) while Nathan and Jen were still stringing flowers. Of course we don’t know the actual timing but, had Kynt not screwed up the receipts he apparently would have finished the Roadblock ahead of Jen and that 5-10 minutes spent at the U-Turn would’ve meant the difference.
Personally, her CG is a bit high for my tastes; but she has a pretty face.
Sorry to see the goths go. I liked the way they got along. Unlike Ron & Christina and Nate and Jen. Ron’s attitude makes me want to smack him (and I’m non-violent), and Nate’s and Jen’s constant bickering is really getting boring.
snerk
I guess you know you picked the wrong detour route when you find your husband in bed with your future son-in-law…
Ron’s attitude towards Christina would make Ghandi want to smack him! Or make him spend a leg with Nate & Jen in last place, which might be worse.
It seems to me that it should have been obvious to Kent & Vixen that there was a good chance they were ahead of Nate & Jen at the U-Turn by the simple fact that Nate & Jen hadn’t U-Turned them! With two teams racing neck-and-neck like that, it would make sense for whichever team arrived there first to delay the other one. Kent just completely overlooked the obvious in his desire to be all scheming or something. Papa Tiger and I were both screaming at the TV set, and believe me, he doesn’t do that often!
So at this point I’m hoping either TK & Rachel or Nick & Don win, just because they’re the only two teams where I still like both members. I really, really do not want Ron to win just because you know he’d spend the next 50 years rubbing in Christina’s face that without his expert guidance, she never would have made it; and Nate & Jen are just plain obnoxious.
Console yourself with the knowledge that even if he does win the old goat doesn’t have 50 more years left in him.
I don’t know. Some of those old coots can be pretty stubborn. The gentleman told me Ron and Christina’s relationship reminds him of me and my father’s. At it’s worst, he’s not far off which is why I wish she’d give him a good telling off and why I know she won’t. He also commented that if Nate dumped Jen in India, no one would notice. I told him several million people would notice, and we’d congratulate him on his good fortune!
I’m sorry to see Kent and Vixen go, but it was self-inflicted. There’s one thing I 'm curious about. During the propane tank delivery, Kent was being very nice and gracious to people, having them sign the receipts while he dropped off the propane tanks. Was that play-acting or him just being a genuinely nice guy? I’m inclined to suspect it was a bit of both, and I wouldn’t be surprised to find he wants to get into show biz. It’s just a shame his play-acting, rather than paying attention to details cost them the race.
I was surprised he and Vixen didn’t U Turn Nate and Jen, but, like most of us, I don’t like them, and I wanted to see them lose.
Do NOT underestimate the Power of Don! He’s smart, he’s sensible, and he’s got an amazing amount of stamina for an old man. What’s more, Nick’s finally starting to pull his weight. I still think they have a chance to win. On the other hand, I suffer from a lack of experience and strong personal biases. My money’s on TK and Rachel first, followed by Nick and Don. Nate will dump Jen as soon as the race is over if he has a fraction of the brains he’s shown, but Christina is stuck with her father for another 20 years. I recommend therapy and walking out on him at least once for her.
