They have a dry wit.
Where’s our Taxi report this week?
I was completely unsurprised by this elimination. It was painful to watch the stupidity.
Hasn’t Pinky noticed that the bad guy teams never win? I mean, seriously, has a team that everyone else hated EVER won TAR?
But I didn’t like the way the producers set up this leg. The details of how well they did the first leg of the race didn’t matter much, as they all bunched (or should have bunched) on the first 2 buses. Then the only challenge between getting off the bus and elimination was the shoe shine one. Annoyingly arranged.
I feel like a 24 hour bus ride would be a challenge itself.
Try a three day bus ride from San Fransisco to Ft. Hood Tx. The only good part was the blow job.
So there won’t be a separate thread for the 10/6 episode?? I’m confused!
If you want a new thread each week, someone has to start it. In the meantime, I renamed this as a the season thread.
Especially for the NFL players. They did not look happy in those seats.
It depends what you mean by ‘bad guy.’ Season 1 was won by perhaps the most annoyingly useless and whiney racer ever (and her partner). She definitely qualifies as someone everyone else hated.
Maybe it’s because we’re seeing more race ability (or lack thereof) or maybe I was just in a better mood this week but I wasn’t as annoyed. I still hate the Afganimal shtick and Pinky but none of the others annoyed me anymore than average humans.
In defense of our actors although the screwed up on the bus task they did manage to find a more direct one - they left 3 hours later and arrived at the station only 20 mins later. That might have been more luck than planning I think but they may have been asking for a route with less stops and when they ticketing agent said yes they asked about times and got the departure and arrival times mixed up. Either way it really didn’t hurt them. Not reading the clue, grabbing the local and having to redo the task really hurt them.
Nitpick: that was Season 3. Seasons 1 and 2 were both won by alpha male teams. Other than that, I agree. She comes to mind immediately when you think of hated teams winning.
Is that so? After 20+ seasons they start to run together. Maybe that was the first season I watched.
I still think the only reason Chris and Alex won that season was because Tara thought denying $500,000 to Will was worth losing her own $500,000.
Can you break out the episode 2 posts into their own thread? I think that’s what everyone would prefer.
Either Robot Arm or I usually start the TAR threads (although in no way does that mean we have ultimate dibs on it) – I wasn’t online until after TAR aired this week, so I was looking around to see if anyone else would pick it up…
:looks around:
I’ve been confused going through this thread myself!
Oh, Rowan and Shane…I figured they’d be goners sooner rather than later. I just didn’t expect it to be so soon IIRC the confusion started at the bus station, didn’t it, where Rowan misunderstood when the second bus was leaving?
I don’t think Pinky is as evil as everyone makes her out to be. For right now I’m looking at her like I did the twins from a couple of seasons ago (the season where the Beekmans won) with all the trash talk. She does have an edge, though, so it’ll be interesting to see if anybody pushes her over it.
I didn’t start the thread myself because I don’t watch the actual show anymore; these threads keep me up with anything interesting without having to watch the increasingly repetitive tasks and the half an hour per show of airport shuffle. And I really like zut’s Taxi Assessments.
Yeah, I got confused about the lack of a new thread, too. Plus, I’m out of town starting soon, and through next week (so unlikely to be an update from me on episode three).
I am still impressed by the large number of teams that spoke at least semi-functional Spanish.
Taxi Assessment:
Stuck in the Desert and Officially Detained - or, Philiminated with extreme prejudice.
Hoskote & Naina (Indian father/daughter) Already eliminated.
Rowan & Shane (Older comedians) (down from “Stopping”) - Before the first episode, I thought Hoskote & Naina and Rowan & Shane were the two weakest teams, and here they go getting eliminated one-two. They made so many blunders, it was just astonishing. Mixing up departure and arrival times? Ouch. And muscling in on some poor shoeshiner’s business? That was just painful to watch. And yet, astonishingly, Rowan almost even with Nicky at the end of the episode, apparently even without the benefit of editing tricks. Still, close doesn’t cut it, and away go Rowan & Shane.
Flat Tire - or, not likely to get anywhere soon.
No one yet.
Stopping for Gas - or, not broken-down, exactly, but not a good sign.
Nicky & Kim (Brunettes) (holding steady) - I thought Nicky & Kim were the third weakest team, after the two already eliminated, and they prove it here by almost getting beat by the hapless Rowan & Shane. If they thought this episode was hard, then they’re just not prepared for the rest of the race. No way this team is around for the final three.
Tim & Danny (Bland friends) (holding steady) - Again not much from Tim & Danny this week. I suspect they may not be quite as bad as I’ve ranked them here, but I’ll wait until next week before I move them.
“Rapido! Por Favor?” - or, making meaningless ineffectual comments from the back seat, but in no immediate danger.
Leo & Jamal (Afghani Cousins) (holding steady) - Despite a blunder at the end that robbed them of first place, Leo & Jamal ouperformed my expectations this week. They’re a little loud and obnoxious, and we’ll see how they recover from the blame-fest going on at the end of this episode.
Ally & Ashley (Blondes) (holding steady) - A predictable lower-middle finish for Ally & Ashley. I think they may be one of the teams closest to elimination, but, like Tim & Danny, I’ll wait until next week to see if they deserve to be re-ranked.
Jason & Amy (Brunette couple - dating) (holding steady) - Still not much from Jason & Amy this week, save some lingering bikini shots of Amy. They finished last out of the first bus group, which isn’t a good sign, but they did get on the first bus, which is a good sign. We’ll see next week, maybe.
In the Passing Lane - or, ahead of the pack, but not quite comfortably.
Chester & Ephraim (NFLers) (holding steady) - First place and a good leg for Chester & Ephraim. It does help to be hulking athlete on the Race, so I expect their winning ways to continue.
Tim & Marie (Blonde couple - exes) (holding steady) - Something of a come-down this week, but Tim & Marie still have an Express Pass they can whip out any time they want, which gives them a leg up on everyone else. They’ve pretty much alienated everyone else, which on other shows might be a problem, but not so much this one. It will be interesting to see which team they give the Express Pass to when they’re forced to do so.
Travis & Nicole (Married Black couple) - OK, not everyone can ride a bike, but yeesh. I worry a little bit if Nicole can keep up the pace for the entire Race. Still, finishing fourth is pretty respectable, so maybe my concern is misplaced.
Brandon & Adam (Bearded guys) (holding steady) - I was mostly convinced that smashing rocks was a poor choice, since it’s essentially a needle-in-a-haystack challenge, and exhausting to boot. But I was apparently wrong, as Brandon & Adam figure out an efficient method and bang through the challenge. In addition, Brandon & Adam were the first team to figure out how to figure out the “Charge the Ship!” clue at the beginning, so points for smarts. They didn’t hit the mat in first, but they did recover well from last week’s near elimination, so I have some confidence in them still.
Cruisin’ with Earl - or, drivin’ on the shoulder, takin’ shortcuts, and generally kickin’ butt.
No one yet–this ranking needs to be earned.

What they don’t have internet where you’re going? You have responsibilities here mister. Don’t be last on the mat.
One long thread for all season works for me. We do it for SYTYCD
