I think the problem they were having with the noodles was that one guy was shoving way too much into the other guys mouth, so he was gagging. Yup.
Remember though, that teams have to pick who will do a Roadblock based on a one sentence description of the task, which is often misleading. After picking, they get a more complete description of what they need to do, but you’re not allowed to switch who is doing a Roadblock. In this case, the clue said “Who is feeling clutch?”, and they were standing in a car junkyard, so picking the physically stronger person to do what appears to be a manual labor task requiring strength isn’t unreasonable.
The last two episodes were awful for the reasons you state. The outcome was never in doubt. Furthermore the outcome was determined by a lack of flights and not by a mistake by the racers (I assume they weren’t stupid and missed an earlier flight opportunity).
Since it was clear who was going to be last, I agree with Lawyer #2. There was no point to aggressively ditch the NY team. Beating them by a minute isn’t worth it when they know they are neither first nor last. They had to know that the last place team was hours behind them.
I don’t think that the lawyer lady actually wanted the taxi to ditch the other team, that was just a useful excuse for spending the cash. She spent the entire day telling him to slow down, to not leave her behind and to stop rushing because it was wearing her out. I think Lawyer Lady is just lazy/out of shape and looking for ways to shift the attention from that.
Team doctor needs to get off my screen before I’m forced to jump through and choke a bitch. Every once in a while I feel sympathy for her but then POW, she amps up the whiny bitch level until I want her to die in a fire. I’m astonished at how irritated she can make me and that’s in just her share of my 40 min viewing time. Can you imagine being him? I’d walk off the damn show rather than putting up with that 24 hrs a day.
The “twist” of the season has been annoying from the start. The quick shutdown of that question by the gay blind date couple is the main reason they’re on my favorite list. Truckstop love is earning a place in my heart too. The non nurse blond girl blind date team is another on my up and coming list. They’re just competent and work well together.
Not a bad ratio now that I think of it. I usually dislike more teams by this point and I might actually if my blind hate for Nursey wasn’t getting in my way.
TAR Australia has started showing here (Manila). I’ve only seen the first episode but I already like it better than the current season of TAR US. There’s no bullshit casting; the teams are all out TAR central casting. There’s the surfer dudes, the hot models, the outback hicks, the down-to-earth truckers, the reconnecting sisters, the older ladies, etc. In an Aussie twist, the religious team are devout Muslims and have to find a way to pray five times a day while on the race.
Just the first episode has already had its share of classic TAR moments. The older lady team went to the wrong parking garage in the airport. That’s the Melbourne airport. They fucked up even before they had left the country. The garage wouldn’t let them out without paying, so they had to beg for money from other motorists.
The tasks so far seem better designed. The first Detour in Indonesia was called “Cash or Carry”. You either sell food to the locals or deliver stuff to a market stall. If you’re a big strong team, you’d think you want to haul stuff, but you’d be wrong. Both team members each had to carry a light basket of leafy vegetables on their heads down a crowded market aisle. They weren’t allowed to use their hands and if the basket fell they had to go back to the start. The surfer dudes, who were so far in first place, tried to carry these baskets several times without success. On their last attempt, as they were very slowly inching their way down the crowded market aisle, baskets precariously perched on their heads, when the hot models show up. The latter (did I mention that they were models?) plonked the baskets on their heads and proceeded to zoom past the surfer dudes to complete the task with nary a look back. After that, the surfer dudes decided to call it quits and do the other task.
I think Oz-TAR is going to give me the proper TAR fix that US-TAR so far hasn’t.
They are taking utmost care to explain all the rules, so I think it’s Season 1. The only thing I don’t particularly like about Oz-TAR is the Aussie host. His accent is pretty close to Phil’s but with a much more low-key affect. So it sounds like Phil has been hitting the ganja before saying, “You have been eliminated from the race.”
You must have missed the announcements because of all the college basketball. Heck, I’m in a different country and I knew about the March Madness hiatus. Did you notice all the college basketball? There’s college basketball!
I thought talking about OzTAR would be a good way to at least keep a TAR thread going while we wait for TAR 26 to return. You don’t like it, feel free to put me on ignore.
Sad thing is, with the way this season is going, I didn’t even miss it. By Sunday I was wondering if maybe t was on my DVR and I looked for it, but wasn’t too concerned when it wasn’t there. That’s a first for me.
I knew March Madness was coming but sort of forgot that it would mess up some schedules. I’ve only been turning on the t.v. specifically when a show I was going to watch came on and missed most of the hype.
