Finally! The Amazing Race starts back up on Thursday, May 29 at 8pm; Survivor’s time slot. 12 teams again. This time they’ve got a pair of air traffic controllers, two wives of National Football League players, a married gay couple, a couple that’s been dating chastely for 12 years and two clowns. (Really. They’re clowns.)
The CBS site is also up and running. (As of yesterday.) It has some very, uh, edifying interviews with the contestants. An interesting read, to say the least.
Unless I miscounted, there are 4 people listed as “models”, and another as an ex-model. Can’t they just put “unemployed” and be done with it? (The ex-model, by-the-by, is now an “inventor”. Heh.)
Can’t wait for the loonies to be let loose on an unsuspecting world!
Woo hoo! The Amazing Race is my favorite reality show. I was wondering when it would be on again. Just when I was afraid that the end of American Idol and Survivor would leave me with nothing to watch.
I’m sure this was filmed before the war on Iraq started. From the site tanstaafl linked to, it sounds like it’s been done for a while, and CBS has just been holding on to it until summer.
You mean we no longer have to choose between The West Wing and The Amazing Race? Did CBS finally hire a programming directory with a brain? It’s about time.
As for the listed contestants, I’m gonna like watching the Air Traffic Controllers. That sounds like a profession where you get used to making snap decisions under stressful conditions. I’ll put them as my preseason favorites (which pretty much dooms them).
It’s strange that they’ve gone from last years police and fireman heavy teams to not a single one this year. Maybe they needed the room for more ratings grabbing psychopaths.
As for the 30 year old virgins, that should be a welcome departure from the shreiky, whiny whore woman who won it last time.
I can’t believe I’m actually this excited about a TV show.
It’s kinda embarrassing/scary how much I like this show. It’s one of about four that I’ll actually turn on the tv to watch. Here’s hoping they don’t muck it up with too many pretty but dull people, like Survivor, IMHO. Models? Feh!
The last episode of TAR 1 where the contestants had to make their way from Newark airport to Flushing Meadows Park. The in-between clue was located in a small park in Queens (Vincent Daniels Square) right underneath the 7 train. Up until I was 9 I lived a block away from there, and in some shots could actually see the apartment building I lived in. I made my poor girlfriend sit through 20 minutes of rewind, freeze-frame, and slow as well as geographic details of the area and associated memories.
Too bad I don’t have an “existing relationship” with anyone competent enough (travel savvy and/or physically up to it) or else I’d have tried out for the last two. Maybe the next one… if there is a next one.
Sadly, CNN made Anderson Cooper choose between them and The Mole. Since I’ve seen him on CNN, it’s fair to say he’s not coming back. I loved him in all his subtle snarkiness!
And I’m so glad about TAR! It’s my favorite “reality show” by far–even when extremely objectionable people like Flo win.
The Amazing Race 4 was supposed to run concurrently with Survivor, on Wednesday nights, but CBS was so surprised with the ratings that Star Search was pulling, they put AR on the shelf until summer and kept Arsenio busy. So, the race was probably done last summer sometime. Glad to see it finally officially scheduled! Woohoo!
I don’t know…I really hope they re-vamp the rules a little bit. I was so sickened by Flo winning last time (note I didn’t include Zack in that, he ran a great race) that I’m not very anxiouse to watch again if they’re going to leave it all up to blind luck. And that’s really what it came down to. Who managed to find a taxi the fastest at the end. I’d rather they have it like the first season, where there was less bunching on the last legs, so there could be a separation of teams. And I’d also like to see some sort of “panic” clue, that if you took, meant you were out of the race. I got so tired of Flo giving up every 10 minutes. I firmly believe that if there had been something that she could have opened to get her out of the race, she would have done it at some point.
Still, looking forward to it. The only reality show I’ve ever applied for.
I recall this was a concern after September 11th. Notice how Amazing Race 2 completely avoids Europe and the Middle East? Even the 3rd one stayed out of the ME.
I’m glad they are having it on Thursdays this year. Couldn’t get people to watch the other years due to time-slot competition.
