Yeah, the Hippies were “always on” at the beginning. For some people it was annoying, although I found it quite charming. (After all, they’re HIPPIES! What’s not to like?) During the last few legs, however, they’ve lost the energy to be “always on” and started acting like themselves – and they’ve turned out to be friendly, compassionate guys who are not above a bit of dirty-handed play. In other words, human.
Folks, can we have a little peace here?
Can we stop the sniping?
Some of us like the Hippies. Some of us like RaYo. I’m not sure if any of us like Team Gonad. . . but I might have missed something there. We’ve got three good racing teams in the finale. Now, let the best team win!
(I just want to know where the Hippies get their parkas that we saw in the preview.)
Obviously the producers give racers cold weather gear. It would be unreasonable to expect them to haul parkas through India or Africa or wherever. Remember the wacky Canada maple leaf hats from season 7? What, you thought everyone packed identical maple leaf hats?
Actually, I think I remember reading somewhere in an interview that any “additional” stuff had to be paid for out of the Leg Allowance. Although I can’t find a cite, so I could be completely misremembering. Or fabricating.
Anybody hear where they’re going, BTW? Is that Canada? Alaska? Looks really pretty …
I would assume they all get that talk at the beginning.
As to the Hippies and the New Parkas, I always assumed they (everyone) had the cold weather gear in a separate backpack or it was stowed with the producers somewhere. There’s no way they’re all toting around a couple changes of clothes and toiletries in their packs, plus the clothes for the cold-weather legs. The parkas alone would fil the backpacks.
Speaking of TARs gone by, I just NOW found out (literally, minutes ago) that Kevin (of “Kevin and Drew”) works for the same company I do! I had no idea!
It’s my understanding from prior races that went to places far colder than the average that the racers are provided with cold weather gear. In the very first race, you’ll recall they all were given snowsuits and moon boots in Alaska. In TAR6, I believe they were given cold weather gear for their night on the glacier. And of course there was the Canada leg.
While they’re expected to only have what they can carry on their backs, realistically they can’t provide for every possible situation, so when it’s completely unrealistic, like carrying 30 lbs of cold weather gear, they give it to them for the duration.
And according to an interview with Colin & Christie, that gear they got in the “lost task” in Banff was worth like $400 each and they could keep it, which is why they were all checking through luggage on their last flight.
Man, I just saw the ep TODAY. Although I was unavoidably spoiled because I work in morning TV land…
I’m picking Ray and Yolanda to win – as always, any lucky break will do it, but this team will be going into the last leg after having a great night’s sleep, massages, and the chance (and hopefully thoughtfulness) to research flights into the U.S. and get the number of taxi companies in every metropolis.
