Amazing Race 8/14

I used to like Reichen and Chip, but the last two weeks have just been ugly. You do not get mad if the locals don’t speak English, or other teams can figure how to print pictures faster than you or anything else of that nature. I’m sure they were incredibly tired and stressed out by that point in the race, but so were the other two teams and they seem to be handling it better. At the same time, I’m glad Reichen wasn’t hurt when Chip ran over his foot because I do want to see the final leg be a real race between all three teams, plus Reichen is just good eye candy.

I hate to admit it, but Jon and Kelly have really grown on me. Yes, they can be childish and annoying (almost constantly to be honest) but it is getting to be endearing in a way, and you can tell that they really do care about each other. Of course, I would probably want to slap Jon within about 30 seconds of meeting him in real life, but it’s entertaining on tv.

As for the goats, meh. I still don’t really care about them one way or the other. I won’t be upset if they win, but I won’t be upset if any of the other teams wins either. It’s not like last year when there was definitely a team I loved and a team I hated in the final three.

I honestly couldn’t predict who’ll win next week. The goats had such a strong leg last night that they’re probably most likely to win, unless they go back to getting lost every 5 minutes. Reichen and Chip also had a relatively strong leg, except for Chip’s driving and well, figuring out the printer. I agree with everyone who said that the beach detour was just bad luck for them, and it does make sense to go the opposite direction as the other team. Jon and Kelly? Maybe they’ll recover from their stupidity, maybe they won’t. I just want to know why on earth Jon (I think it was him at least) gets naked in the preview.

With the series being nominated for an Emmy for Best Reality Show, I’d be surprised if there wasn’t.

But stranger things have happened…

I asked because previously they’ve recruited for the next season as the current season runs (ran? was running? is running?), and I haven’t seen or heard any evidence of it. They’d need to start soon if they were going to run it next year – there’s the screening, all kinds of set-up in advance, etc., then post-production editing, and so forth.

Yeeesh, we sure do have some sensitive people who post on here! Kelly & Jon are AWESOME. Is everyone on here soooo mature they’d never make silly jokes about another team?

They’re goofy, having fun, doing their own thing…they’re almost like the clowns. I especially like Jon. I think he’s hilarious and I love how he gets excited like a little kid. K&J are great; I hope either they win or the Goats. But lordy lord I will be very unhappy of the R&C win.

Guys, guys! It’s all in the editing. The editors on this show are sneaky bastards. It’s not who we think will win. It’s who they think we think they think we think will win. Or something.

Chip & Reichen seem to be really stressing, kinda losing it. Why would they stress out during a non-elimination round? Maybe they just want us to think they’re stressing & losing it.

The Goats just seemed to click this time. And how many times were they on camera talking (bragging?) about how their winning strategy, blah blah blah. Are they setting these guys up for a big screw up? Or do they want us to think they’re setting them up for a screw up? Those guys don’t need to win. They’re going to spend the next year just taking all those damn vacations they won.

Jon & Kelly. I like these guys. Didn’t like them earlier. They seemed mean. Editing! I don’t think they’re that mean (ok, Millie the Mole was mean). They like to kid a lot. They’re having fun, even when it seems like they’re being mean, even to each other. They didn’t care at all this last leg because they knew it was non-elim. They relaxed, de-stressed. Good position psychologically & physically to take the prize. Or do they want me to think that?

The Goats were invisible the whole show up until the last week or two. Why? Winners?

Chip & Reichen & Kelly & Jon got lots of camera time throughout the show. Why? Losers?

Damn those editors. I have no idea.

It’s possible that if they do go ahead with another season, they may just get their contestants out of the pool of people who’ve applied for previous editions of the race. I’m sure there are plenty of applicants who would have been just as good as the people who did make it on, so it would be easy enough to contact them and see if they’re still interested.

Eh, it’s your opinion, but while I saw the clowns as having fun, they never seemed to be having fun at the expense of others. Kelly and Jon (especially Jon) just seem downright mean. I’m thinking in particular of the “Mille the Mole” comments. Come on, make fun of her because she’s uptight and bossy, not because of her looks–something she can’t freakin’ help. It’s so high school. And could Jon have been any more disrespectful to the locals when they went to chop the boards? Also, in Korea, when they pulled the kite down, Jon did a particularly offensive (to me) imitation of Asian people.

So no, they’re not awesome to me.

well I totally agree with Trigonal Planar, it’s too bad I missed this week’s episode. I’m hoping to catch it this Sunday on the Outdoor Life Network (canadian version) at 8PM. Damned Blackout…

I don’t see anything wrong with Jon and Kelly. Imitation of the Korean people, mock kung fu noises when chopping the boards. All in fun. I’m korean and didn’t take any offense to it, so why should non-koreans, whether being of any other race or creed, take offense to it? They’re just having fun.

On the other hand the gay guys, Chip and Reichen are pure assholes. They can’t even share any bit of info with other teams, they can’t be mature (i.e telling Jon that he was beat by a gay guy in the face first repel) and have the notion that the world caters to them (the fact that KOREAN cabbies don’t know a lick of ENGLISH, when in KOREA). Chip and Reichen personify the ugly American stereotype of the world revolving around them and it is just sad seeing it played out so offensively even if it is editing doing that. Jon never started any gay bashing or homophobic antics, Chip or Reichen started the whole thing and Jon just jokingly used it as fuel for Kelly to go faster down the building.

The goats, I don’t mind them. Not really who I’m rooting for.

But for sure, I’m placing curses on the gay guys Chip and Reichen. the arrogant americans (possibly racists with that f*cked up comment of “speak english” to KOREAN cabbies in KOREA) I don’t give 2 sh!ts if they have chemistry or we can see that they love each other or that they’re meant for each other, they’re plainly assholes or just that one guy who is always on edge.

I don’t have a lick of care for the non gay guy team called the Goats, dont even know their names.

and am FULLY rooting for Jon and Kelly, they have chemisty together, having fun, know when to get in high gear, and are humourous in a stressful environment.

Separated at birth: ex-49’er Steve Young and Jeff (or is it Dave?)

The clowns were the best… I do miss them a lot. What a way to see life they had. Perfect!
I like Jon and Kelly!
I really don’t care for the two other teams.

I only really liked the clowns. I wouldn’t care if Chip & Reichen or the Goats won, but I wouldn’t want to see Jon & Kelly win. I hate how they have to tease everyone. It’s not even that they’re having fun or being lighthearted, it seems as if there’s something more there. They really don’t like the other people, and they’re convinced that they’re funny. A few isolated jokes/comments would be fine, but they’re just so constant about it, it never lets up.

And the Goats…well…I can’t explain what rubs me the wrong way about the Goats. I can’t explain it. Like I said, I’d be fine with it if they won, but there’s something weird about 'em. It’s probably just me.

Exactly. And it’s always jokes at other’s expense (and a lot of the times, jokes about things that people can’t help–the Millie Mole thing) which is why they’re totally the bitchy people from high school.

I know what you mean, Caesar’s Ghost – there’s something profoundly mean-spirited about J&K’s “teasing.” I don’t like them either.

Despite the fact that the clowns were very pleasant, I never fell in love with them the way I fell in love with one or more teams from each of the other seasons – I liked the clowns, but I didn’t love the clowns. They weren’t exactly the Frat Boys, yaknowwhatImean? (Yes, this has been noted before, but I think it’s worth repeating.) This has been a profoundly disappointing season as far as getting emotionally involved – positively or negatively – with any of the teams.

Boy! You wrote a mouthful here! I only found teams I did NOT like in this bunch of 12. I had gotten to respect the NFL wives when they blew up. I had gotten to admire and enjoy the clowns when they missed the plane. I only care that Chip and Reichen win this race because they’re my office pool team. . . but I don’t really like them. And not winning $12 is not going to wreck my year.

So, whoever wins, wins. End of story. (But I still love to watch the race action!)

Ahh…pretty close, though the hair isn’t quite curly enough. He’s also much, much too short to be mistaken for an NFL player. However, Dave is a dead ringer for long time Cub and Diamondback Mark Grace.

So I guess all you people who find “Millie the Mole” offensive refuse to watch shows like Big Brother, Blind Date, right? Cuz nobody ever makes fun of each other on those shows.

I think this is different because on the other shows, you’re basically playing off of other people. Making alliances, often by disparaging other participants, is a basic part of a contestant’s strategy to win. Knowing how to play off of other people is a major component of the shows.

However, on TAR, you don’t necessarily have to deal with other people. There may be instances where being on ‘good terms’ with someone will get you information quickly (an earlier flight, etc) but there’s no need for name-calling or teasing. Saying that you think someone is ugly or making fun of the citizens of a country you’re in will not get you to the finish line faster than another team.

So the only reason that a team would make fun of another team is simple mean-spiritedness. It’s not helping them, and it can only hurt them, especially if another team hears their comments. If they feel the need to make comments and tease in public (as opposed to at night in their hotel rooms, which we don’t see, or whatever) then they can only be doing it out of the bad parts in their hearts.

On Big Brother (although not on Blind Date, where there’s no actual “winning”) being catty can serve a purpose. On TAR, it serves no purpose. That’s why some people don’t like J&K, and that’s why I don’t like them.

Sorry, I should add: Teasing in public might help get a team’s morale down so they don’t cross the finish line, but it won’t help the teasing team in and of itself. When K&J make pithy comments about the other teams for no obvious strategic reason like that, it’s that which makes them seem like jerks.

Um, no. I just don’t think they’re “awesome,” that’s all. But way to put words in my mouth.

yea it’s quite funny how everyone wants to rip into K & J for being mean spirited yet we have yet to see anyone begin to rip into the assholes that call themselves Chip and Reichen…what is it? because they’re gay that we can’t rip into them? Well I’ll say it, and I’ve said it, they are assholes, regardless of their race, sexual preference, religion or what have you.

I would love to see them lose and lose badly in the finale. They don’t have an ounce of decency about them, just watching them on camera gets me all riled up. They are pathetic, sore loser types. I just saw teh rebroadcast on a CBS affiliate and man were they getting worse as the show progressed.

Jon and Kelly aren’t getting worse like them, and the Goats are simply stating obvious comments like “we’re in the lead and we want to slowly increase that lead”. There are no interesting things about them, they don’t spice up a love/hate thing… so they don’t even have names with me. Jeff and Dave is it?
