Amazing Race 8/7/03

Well, I really feel bad for the clowns. They get screwed by fog. They get screwed by some dopey travel consultant. They get screwed by Chip and Reichen not having a long enough penalty. Fooey. I was absolutely sure the clowns were going to take the whole thing. . . even though I have Chip and Reichen in the office pool. C&R are too dumb to live!

And while Kelly and Jon are still disgusting people, they sure have the cojones.

And I still don’t know The Goats’ real names.

I don’t care who wins.

I had a minor temper tantrum when the clowns lost. I kept shouting NONONONONONO until my cats got agitated b/c they thought they were doing something wrong.

::sniff::

I didn’t see all of it. What happened with fog, a travel consultant and a penalty?

Fog descended on the Inchon airport. The clowns had booked a flight on Korea airlines; they were delayed. All other teams were n Singapore Airlines; they were not delayed. The clowns had called a travel consultant who assured them the only way to get to Brisbane was on the Korea airline flight they booked. Very Bad Advice.
At the end of the show, Chip and Reichen were penalized 35 minutes for DRIVING to the pit stop instead of going by foot. But the Clowns were farther behind than the 35 minutes, so they were eliminated. The final three teams are: Goats (1st place because of Fast Forward), Kelly & Jon (second place by default because of C&R’s penalty) and C&R.

FOG = a low lying cloud that obscures vision, esp. while driving. I don’t think it slowed up any team’s cab, but…The Clowns and Jon/Kelly have never seen FOG before??? Kelly, at least, said she’d “never seen anything like it.” WTF??

Travel Consultant = “Yes we have space on flight, but due to security reason, you not can board. I sorry!”

Penalty = In a repeat of the bitch lawyers from S3, Chip & Reichen drove instead of ran to the pit stop, costing them a 35 min. penalty. Fortunately (for them, anyway) the Clowns didn’t make it in time. Nice cliffhanger, though. (And nice cut to commercial w/ the shark bearing down, haha.)

Poor Clowns. :frowning:

And I hope Chip and/or Reichen socks Jon right in the jaw soon, for those homophobic remarks. Lucky for him it wasn’t me at the rappel detour, or I’d have “accidentally” loosened the ropes a bit…oops!

Poor clowns. I was so stressed out watching the last few minutes because I knew that whichever way it went a team that I like would be eliminated, while we’re stuck with Jon and Kelly until the end.

No! I was sooo not happy with that ending. With the clowns gone, I don’t think there’s any point in watching the rest*
*Ah, who am I kidding. I couldn’t stop watching!

That fishtank detour was definitely THE coolest detour ever out of any of the Amazing Races. Sharks are

Anyway, the the Clowns gone, The Goats are my favourite to win, followed by K&J and lastly R&C.

Well consdiering Chip basically started it with his “The gay guy beat you!” crap I don’t think it is homophobic at all. I think Chip is a complete ass, it looked like his head was going to explode in the cab and he was unbelievably rude, “Speak english!”. Shut up you clod! ANd what the hell did they mean by the comment, “WE always are ahead of Kelly and Jon but then they passs us.” Wha’? Those two are whiners and they are definitely my third choice out of the three.

Ah, I thought it was Jon who said that line…but where was that, on the building rappel? Because Jon was making assholic comments at the airport earlier…

I think Jon has been riding/teasing Chip & Reichen ever since they confirmed they were gay. It borders on obsession from what I’ve seen. Jon tweaking Reichen’s nipples? Jon’s leaning over to Reichen, sniffing him & saying they just give off nice pheremones, etc? Chip was just stooping to Jon’s level for once, which I thought was justified.

Chip was awfully cranky in the cab though. I think he was tweaked because the cabbie assured them he understood English & knew where he was going & it became evident neither was true. I’d be tweaked about it.

No, how exactly did Jon & Kelly pass them into the aquarium??? I just don’t get it. How??? They aren’t faster. Coming off the building they had a good lead. I’ll grant you that one. If you’re ahead of someone & you can’t stay ahead of them, it’s your own fault.

Anyway, I feel really bad for the clowns. Damn. But nice guys never finish first in these reality shows, do they?

Emotionally, I agree. I want the Goats to win.

But personalities aside, I think the Goats are doomed. Let’s face it. They’re dumb. (Or, I suppose, you could say “careless to the point of stupidity”), they’re sloppy and frankly, they don’t seem…hungry…for the win. How many clues must they zip right by? How many times must they get lost? This is the first episode where they didn’t have a screw up of some sort.

The Gay Guys? Ditto. Plus one of the two (Reichen?) is about to snap under the pressure–his near melt-down in the cab, his panicky decision to hop in the car and drive? The constant fuck-ups in other episodes? The older one just doesn’t cope with pressure well and the last two legs are about nothing but pressure.

I despise Jon* (and don’t much like Kelly) but I think they’re a lot more likely to win, especially if Kelly doesn’t try to use the detours to show how macho (facho?) she is. Just about every single detour, she says “It’s my turn to do one!” regardless of the nature of the detour itself

Frankly, my guess for the end of the race is:

1st place - Kelly/Jon
2nd place - Reichien and Chip (assuming that someone slips Reichien a tranquilizer before his head explodes)
3d place - The Goats

Which is exactly the opposite order that I want it.

Dammit, I really wanted the clowns to win. (And what a classy exit they had)

Fenris

He’s such a swine. The homophobic crap aside, I cringe every time that bigoted fck spews the phoney sing-song “chinese noises”, or insults a dojo by doing fake karate…when the term “Ugly American” was defined, it was intended for him.

I would pay $50.00 to see him locked in a room with Flo from last AR. I can think of no greater punishment.

Well, sure. But if the guy didn’t speak english, how could he have assured R&C that he speaks english? Did he just nod and say “Yes” to whatever R&C said? Were R&C unable to figure out that they were’t really communicating with him? I’m not sure I can blame tha cabbie here.

Fenris - I’m pretty sure that the older guy is Chip and the younger guy is Reichen.

I’m so pissed about the clowns. I adored them. They were the first team I’ve ever seen on any AR that truly did what they all said they were going to do–just have as much fun as possible and do the best they can. I really thought they were going to make it in 34:59.

Reichen and Chip just make me so mad my teeth itch. I am not homophobic and have nothing against their lifestyle, in fact, I thought that first anniversary thing was very sweet, and I was very happy they have each other. But they’re conceited and too bent on winning the race–just so they can say the gay guys won. And being angry because Korean cabbies can’t speak English?? It’s one of those moments when I’m ashamed to realize that Americans do, indeed, think the world revolves around them. American cab drivers who don’t speak English are a bad idea. Korean cab drivers who don’t speak English are what you should EXPECT in Korea!!!

Kelly and Jon are always up in the air with me. I know guys like Jon, and I get the impression that he’s really not the asshole he appears on tv. Or at least, I hope that’s the case. Kelly’s a little high-strung, but I think that if she can keep her mouth shut and he can stop taunting her for once, they might just pull it off.

The Goats … well, up until the last couple episodes, I always pretty much forgot about them until they were shown! But then again, that’s the mark of the winner, in the end. It’s true on Survivor, it’s true on Amazing Race. The person/team you spent the first half of the game completely forgetting about ends up the winner.

And as someone who’s so afraid of heights that I cry if I’m up past the fourth rung of a ladder, I have to congratulate Kelly on the ovaries it took to make it down that building. I would have thrown up at least three times on the way down.

R.I.P. clowns…:frowning:

One thing still puzzles me: Didn’t they find themselves on a direct flight to Australia, which should have given them some advantage? Did that flight leave much later? Because, IIRC, they did arrive last there…

A few words on the remaining teams.

The Goats may make some stupid blunders, but they’ve been in first place a lot. They at least have two cruises and whatever trip they won last night. Strong team.

The Gay Guys make more stupid mistakes than anyone else but still manage to pull through. If their luck can hold out, if they learn from last night and if Chip can calm down (my wife says that he’s becoming the “new Millie”), they still have a shot.

Kelly and Jon. Smart. Strong. Determined.

From a game perspective, this is great.

As to the likability factor - is there any way we can team up Reichen and Kelly so I can root fo them?

I’m depressed. I was cheering for the clowns, dammit. Never trust a phone travel agent. Or crafty TV editors; I wonder by how much they missed the 35 minutes. I’m always paying attention at the beginning when they show them leave to see how far apart they are. I wonder why they don’t put more emphasis on that.

I have a show question, though, that maybe someone can answer:

It seems as if they all know during the race whether or not that leg is an elimination round. For example in this ep Reichen (I think) is reading the detour (I think) thing and quotes, “…the last team to the pit stop will be eliminated.” But in other eps, they seem to play up the idea that the teams don’t know. Which is it?

I’m so confused as to why the clowns didn’t investigate the possibility that there was a better flight a little earlier…I mean, as they were sitting alone at the gate, with no other teams in sight, did they really think that they’d somehow finagled the best flight with no one else knowing? Did it not occur to them that if they were alone, the other teams must have found something better?? They could easily have made it to the Singapore Air flight if they’d had a clue just a little earlier.

I too am pissed that the clowns are eliminated. Other than that, I have to agree completely with Fenris. I want the Goats to win, but unless they have learned from their past mistakes, I don’t think they can. They don’t seem to have figured out that sometimes, it’s better to slow down and think for a minute. I’m dreading a Jon/Kelly victory.

While I think the clowns had some bad luck, some of it they brought on themselves. Once they see a lack of other teams at an obvious bunching point, they need to investigate what other options teams are taking. So, while I would rather they still be racing, I am content that it was their mistake rather than arcane game rules or something.

I am also of the opinion that the clowns probably tried for the fast forward but it wasn’t shown to preserve the intensity of the finish.

Go goats, although I am pretty much OK with any of the 3 teams. Thankfully, we have no Flo this time around.

Waaaaah! I wanted the clowns to win!

When the kept cutting between the Goats at the FF and J/K and R/C jumping off the hotel, I kept shouting, “Where are the Clowns??!!! There ought to be clowns! DEAR GOD, BRING OUT THE CLOWNS!” By the time their plane finally landed, I knew it was probably too late.

The only hope was that the teams would bunch up again at the roadblock, or that Reichen would get eaten by a shark. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be.

Now, I kind of want K&J to win. I hated them for so long, but they’re growing on me. I like the Goats, but they’re careless. I’m really disliking R&C right now. Chip: “Speak English!!” Sheesh.

How funny was it when Jon pulled down the Korean kite display?
