Amazing Race 8/7/03

**
Me, too. I loved the Clowns, and I also thought they would juuuust make it with seconds to spare. I hate Kelly and Jon with a passion, and can’t stand that they’ve made it this far. I was really hoping that the Clowns would win. :frowning:
Poor Clowns.

I guess I’m pulling for the Goats now. What the heck are their names? Dave and Jeff? Mike and Jeff? Mike and John?

As much as I hate her, I have to give her credit, too. I could have done it the traditional way, but face first? No way. I would have thrown up all the way down!

One word: MAP. Jon & Kelly had one; Chip & Reichen didn’t. So Jon & Kelly got to WaterWorld (or whatever the name of the shark habitat was) faster and more efficiently.

Oh, by the way, I saw the clowns on CBS Morning News this morning. . . and they said they arrived at the pitstop a half-hour after C&R’s penalty timed out. So they were really out of luck. Wasn’t even close. Too bad.

I was pretty sure C&R did have a map, their problem is that neither one of them can read it. Kelly and Jon both have the map gene that allows them to get from one place to another without too much difficulty. Chip always drives, and Reichen can’t map his way out of a paper bag.

When Jon and Chip finished the rappell Chip came running over and said, “The gay guy won! The gay guy beat you!” or something like that. So then later Jon was yelling up at Kelly, 'Don’t let that gay guy beat you!".
My prefferred order of finsih.
Jon & Kelly
Umm, those two guys who aren’t Chip and Reichen
Chip & Reichen

Actually, no, they didn’t have a map. They specifically said they SHOULD have gotten a map. They had a silly guide book which didn’t seem to be much use at all. They stopped and asked a native “which way to highway 15” or something like that.

Ah, so that’s what I heard.

And I totally forgot about Chip’s totally uncalled for “Speak English or Die!” moment. He needs to be bitch-slapped for that. Hmm, what’s a suitable punishment…locking him in a room with Flo is too extreme…I know! I’ll take him to that strip club I went to last week! Force him to sit through 20 lap dances or something. Muaahhahahaha…

I really like K&J. I think its great the way they tease each other and I really don’t get the sense that’s mean spirited; it seems pretty jovial to me.

I agree that the Clowns lost on their own accord. When they so quickly grabbed the tickets and were just sitting around I couldn’t understand why they weren’t looking into other flights. Sad to see them go, but at least it wasn’t due to a stupid technicality.

Really, K&J or The Goats winning would make me happy.

But please not R&C.

But before that, at the ticket counter in Korea, Jon was talking about gay phermones or something.

Then Reichen (or Chip) made the “The Gay Guy beat you” crack

Then Jon said told Kelly NOT to let the gay guy beat her.

No matter how you slice it, Jon started it, but frankly, a pox on both their houses.

Fenris

At the Korean ticket counter Jon ran up right behind Reichen and told the ticket agent to give him the exact same tickets she just gave to Chip.

Just as he was pissed with Millie sneaking in on his ticket picks, he said something inaudible to Jon. Jon then replied “it must be those phermones.”

Basically I think since Millie is gone they’ve decided to snipe at each other.

And after the rappel I’m convinced Jon and Kelly really do love each other. When she was really scared (and he knew it), he stopped all the joking, all the mocking, and just hugged her when she finished.

I really hope they win.

Clowns aren’t supposed to make you cry, dammit!

After the Gay Guys’ ugly American act in Korea (Does shouting “Speak English!” magically make the cab driver understand English?) and their extreme stupidity in driving to the pit stop, I know officially hate them more than Kelly and Jon. Why’d they only get a 35-minute penalty, anyway.

Well it was 5 min for the time they gained and 30 min for the actual penalty. It was apparently pretty close (and therefore pointless to drive).

What’s the deal on Fast Forwards now? Do they have them in the last 3? Has anyone not done it yet?

Oh, I know why they got the penalty. What I want to know is why it was so short. IIRC, the mother/daughter team in season 1 were assessed a 24-hour penalty in Thailand for not following the clue. Why’d the Gay Guys only get 35 minutes?

The clowns were the only ones left I actually liked, but it’s their own fault this time.

R&C are asses. Jon is too; Kelly may not be but she’s in love with an ass. That leaves the Ambiguously Gay Duo, who have no on-air personality but haven’t pissed anybody off yet, either - that’ll have to do. Jeff and Dave, good luck.

At least there’s no Wil (see: Tara) or Flo (see: Zach) left.

Speaking as someone who’s long disliked K&J, my problem with them has never been how they treat each other. It’s not the kind of snipeful relationship I’d like to have with my wife, but hey, whatever works for them.

My distaste for JoKe stems from their treatment of other teams. Rivalry? Fine. “Millie the mole?” Juvenile and insulting. I like snarky, but not the 100% wit-free version JoKe are peddling in this race.

As I suspected, I find JoKe less annoying now that Millie and Chuck have left the race, since M&C seemed to be a lightning rod for JoKe’s worst tendencies.

I guess I’m rooting for the Goats, which kind of seems like settling on vanilla because Baskin-Robbins is out of 28 other flavors.

Love the name!

So my picks now are

Ambiguously Gay Duo
Kelly&Jon (tho I despise her)
Reichen&chip
[takes off hat] Let just take a moment here to say goodbye to our dear departed clowns. You made us giggle - you made us cheer - and won our respect for fighting fair and running a good race.

<sniff>

:frowning:
[puts hat back on] On with the Race!

The mother/daughter team got a 24-hour penalty because they completely skipped one of the tasks (either the Roadblock or the Detour). The penalty Reichen and Chip got is exactly the same as what was given to Heather and Eve in TAR3 when they did exactly the same thing, i.e. drove to the pit stop when the clue said to walk. In the case of Heather and Eve, they were assessed a penalty for 7 minutes for the time they gained by not walking plus 30 minutes for failing to follow instructions. Reichen and Chip got 5 minutes for the time they gained (guess the distance was slightly shorter in this case) plus 30 minutes for not reading the clue.

It’s Chip that seems emotionally spoiled. He escalates pretty fast when he doesn’t get his way. Reichen is always conspicuously silent during the hystrionics. During a voiceover Reichen mentioned something to the effect that if they don’t take time to relax a bit & enjoy things that it really affects their “team.” I take that to mean Chip’s panties get really bunched up. I didn’t originally think Reichen would be the emotional anchor for this pair but now it seems so. Chip is the older one which just goes to show age isn’t everything, emotionally speaking.

Now I can’t figure out Dave & Jeff. Jeff I’m pretty sure is the shorter one & I really like him. His smiles seem genuine. He even tried to hug his partner at the checkpoint but Dave stuck an elbow between them. What a dork.

So in my version of reality:

Reichen dumps Chip. Jeff dumps Dave. Kelly dumps Jon.

Reichen & Jeff pair up & win.
Kelly & Dave pair up & almost win.
Jon & Chip pair up & end up spending the rest of their lives together because they deserve each other. Then they get eaten by sharks.
