Great job on the Rickshaw Assessment, tumbledown!
Oh, very nice!
BTW, are you willing to do the ratings for the whole season?
If not, should we do some sort of ‘signup by weeks’ to avoid wasted efforts/possible hurt feelings?
If people like 'em, I’ll do 'em. I tried to give it my own little flair.
I mentioned that upthread, but nobody replied
I have no problem if tumbleddown wants to do all of them, but if for whatever reason s/he has to miss an episode, we should at least have a list somewhere of people who can fill in…
TAR has won so many awards that I don’t really see that it’s necessary to go with celebrities in order to ensure renewal, but I guess I understand the sentiment. And your point that there’s no final word on what constitutes a celebrity is a good one.
I like the new ratings, too, but would also be happy to serve as an alternate.
Very nice, tumbledown.
Me too
I DVR’d the ep on Monday and watched last night.
First, I noticed that at the first task, the part where Phil explained the Hazard penalty was obviously dubbed in. His voice sounded different, and the video during that bit was shot from behind him so you couldn’t see his lips were not in sync. Every other mention of the Hazard was done in voice-over. Did the showgirls ever get any kind of special clue labeled “Hazard” or say anything about having to do an extra, special task? The whole thing just seemed out of place.
WARNING: Cynicism Ahead!
Like any business, CBS answers to the needs of its customers. You are not their customer. The people who pay money to get their commercials shown are. You are the product that CBS sells.
In other words, awards don’t mean jack. Advertisers want their messages to play in front of an audience, and the more disposable income they have, the better. Warm bodies in front of the televisions will get a show renewed, not awards.
That said, I’m not a fan of the stunt casting either. These people have had their moment in the limelight, and some have already grabbed the brass ring. And they’re taking up a valuable spot in the lineup that could have gone to me. That also said, the Globetrotters seemed like pretty decent guys and were hardly household names. Boston Rob was an ass.
I am also available for substitute Rickshaw Assessment duties.
Missed the show because the Steelers were on and didn’t DVR it because it was late and I tape something else at 9 so I sat down today to watch it on On Demand…Helpful hint I just learned, TAR isn’t on Comcast On Demand, at least not yet.
Hulu was nice enough to point me to CBS’ site where I got to watch the episode in a postage stamp sized window.
At least I got to see it though. I liked the idea of it being Non elimination. Let’s the teams spend a little more time on the race and I was also confused by the opening task as I assumed they had to figure it out and not just find the right umbrella.
Not sure who I like but I am pretty sure Mr. Test Drive my Girlfriend will be a Douche Bag.
The window isn’t quite so wee if you have access to a mobile device. The CBS app for iPad gives full screen video.
Yeah, I quickly discovered last season that CBS probably have the worst online video of any network. Especially when you get to the ads that knock you out of full screen.
there is usually a liitle button the bpttom of the screen on the CBS website to enlarge the picture.
Yes but then it was like watching an Atari game because the resolution was poor.
Nah. Everybody was naked the whole episode, so it was all pixellated.
Just getting caught up due to a problem with DishTV so I know I’m a week or 2 behind.
What happened to the 12 hour rest period? The lead team left at 9:13pm for the second leg and I know they did not get in at 9:13am. As soon as I saw that, I knew everyone would be on the same flight. I know they have artificial bunching points but to wipe out a 6 hour difference by playing loose with the rest period time is BS.
I’m okay with their doing it this early in the game, while teams are still getting their feet under them.
Oops, didn’t realize this was the old thread. I’ll lock this to prevent further confusion.
Reopened after discussion.
A few weeks old does not zombie make…right?
Just wanted to point out that I was raised just a few miles from the starting point of this year’s race, the Hsi Lai Temple, in Hacienda Heights. In fact, my folks still live there. I think that the closest point TAR has come to my hometown.
How to get to LAX? “Take the 60, to the 605.” …to the 105 (unheard)
YAY!
