5 days without water wandering the in wildneess and she’s in good condition and well hydrated because she drank her urine. Now why would the police be suspicious of that?

May 8) – Christine Asleson went searching for a lost dog in the Red Rock area on Sunday. But amidst the hugs and smiles, surrounding her recovery Friday, came serious questions from police.

Rescue crews and volunteers blanketed Red Rock Canyon looking for Asleson. Metro says she should have been found – if she was in the Red Rock area. Police are highly suspicious of Asleson. Now they are trying to determine if this missing woman was ever really missing in the first place.

Jason Caudill, Asleson’s son, said, “She said she was eating some flowers. I could tell she was eating something nasty up there because she had a black tongue – a completely black tongue.”

Caudill says his mother did everything she could to stay alive: “She had to do what she had to do. So apparently, she had a little medicine thing with her and she used that to save her urine and drink it.”

For days, rescue helicopters and ground crews scoured the Red Rock terrain, even using hi-tech infrared cameras to look for signs of life.

Sergeant Clint Bassett, with Metro Search & Rescue: “We worked really, really hard and we’re really glad that we know that if somebody had been there, we would have found them.”

Metro Search & Rescue’s Sgt. Bassett is highly skeptical of Asleson’s survival story: "Reports from the hospital that her physical condition is not conducive with somebody that’s been in the wilderness for a great deal of time, throws high suspect in the credibility of her story

Hm, Red Rock Canyon…

Been thre, areas are fairly dry, but there are water sources there…and urine drinking is a valid way to keep hydrated…but you do get slightly dehydrated because you can not replace what has sweated away. It is in the realm of possibility to maintain health for 5 days depending on if she found a spring, and kept out of the sun during the day.

Not really feeling up to reading lots of little links, I did notice that the searchers had been within 100 meters of here and she didnt yell and get their attention? Did she fall down and break something or just get very lost?

If you drink urine, you’ve just got to get rid of the stuff that’s in it all over again. But since you loose some water through your skin and lungs, even if you drink your own urine you will continually have less water available to flush out an increasing amount of waste. (And even if you don’t eat, you will still have nitrogen compounds to get rid of as the body breaks down its own tissues to keep going). Your urine and blood will both become more concentrated, until pretty soon you will reach the stage where your cells will start to die.

No, it is not.

Let’s just say it can be used to reduce the rate of dehydration at times. The first few times you void after being fairly well hydrated, the urine is often not too concentrated, therefore being lower in uric acid. Ingesting this will replenish dehydrating system somewhat, but not as well as water. After a few passes thru the system tho, eventually it won’t do for rehydration purposes.

Hmmm, maybe. But in this case, a “little medicine thing” of urine isn’t going to help much, I’d say. Certainly not for five days without some other significant source of water.
