"Vision" discredited?

Hi folks!

Just saw this item in the news today about that young lady who was rescued after a family friend had “visions” about her location:

Was wondering if anyone has any information on the family friend’s “visions” being discounted now as well.

Thanks!

That whole story sounds very fishy to me. When I saw that on the news, I thought it was probably bullshit. But what is really weird about it is this: can someone survive without water for 8 days? I don’t think so. Thusly, I don’t believe that girl was down there for 8 days. The police might be right that she was a runaway.

This seems somewhat odd to me. I would think most parents would maintain hope that their child was still alive much longer than eight days, especially if they had no real reason to believe they were dead. (They just said ‘she must have had an accident’.) I couldn’t find any more factual information than there was in the article you provided, though.

I think most police officers would consider ‘visions’ highly suspect – it seems like a way to conceal information you have about an event without revealing how you obtained it. They invoke several other miracles. They may well be right that she ran away, perhaps for a reason that her family would rather not reveal.

I imagine that when your body is in shock, you can survive without water for eight days. As to discounting the “vision”:

  1. Your daughter is missing. She left point A. She was going home.
  2. You look for her along the route between point A and home.
  3. Eventually, you find her.

Thus, the vision has been discounted, right here on the SDMB!!! Your welcome!!

As for the water issue, it had been raining lightly on and off during the 8 days. So she could have gotten some moisture.

As for the vision… the day the news kept playing that clip i had to just get up and walk away from the TV. This isn’t news… it’s chicanery!

eh, I thought I’d read that she’d had a stroke from the accident, and that possibly the dehydration limited the negative effects of the stroke.

Is this the same case?

Yep, same case. =D

We’ve discussed this one before.
