That made me laugh so hard ![]()
It seems like he totally troll’d the OP. ![]()
Because he misspelled GeForce? I don’t get it. Maybe I need some context or I just don’t know enough about nVidia drivers for it to be funny.
I googled Geforce 8900. Seems like lots of people where talking about it back in 2007 but it’s not listed on nVidia’s site. So it never showed up or it was vaporware or something along those lines.
Is that the joke. That the mod of a tech site was wrong about the number or didn’t know it didn’t exist or was making a joke about it.
The mod’s lack of knowledge. Almost all of the people interested in hardware and gaming knows 8900 GTX never existed. GeForce 8800 series was legend.
Nerd humor
D.A. Jim Trotter: Now, uh, Ms. Vito, being an expert on general computer knowledge, can you tell me… what would the correct processor timing be on a 2006 model Dell with 8900 GTX and 2x512MB of 256-bit GDDR4 memory ?
Mona Lisa Vito: It’s a bullshit question.
D.A. Jim Trotter: Does that mean that you can’t answer it?
Mona Lisa Vito: It’s a bullshit question, it’s impossible to answer.
D.A. Jim Trotter: Impossible because you don’t know the answer!
Mona Lisa Vito: Nobody could answer that question!
D.A. Jim Trotter: Your Honor, I move to disqualify Ms. Vito as a “expert witness”!
Judge Chamberlain Haller: Can you answer the question?
Mona Lisa Vito: No, it is a trick question!
Judge Chamberlain Haller: Why is it a trick question?
Vinny Gambini: [to Bill] Watch this.
Mona Lisa Vito: 'Cause Nvidia didn’t make a 8900 GTX in 2006, the 8900 GTX didn’t come out till '07. And it wasn’t offered in the Dell’s package with a 2x512MB of 256-bit GDDR4 memory. However, in 2008, the correct processor timing would be 2200MHz before top-dead-center.
D.A. Jim Trotter: Well… um… she’s acceptable, Your Honor.
I am offended. ![]()
What else would you call it? Only a miniscule percentage of people in the world would get the ‘joke’ and pretty much all of those would have to be computer geeks/nerds.
I agree. But we nerds have right to live equally ![]()
I fail to see your mistreatment. I acknowledged that it was a vary unique humor set. You acknowledged your affiliation with nerds.
Where is the inequality?
Only if someone can prove there’s a total ordering on human beings, and I don’t think anyone can.
Calling people *who has an intense, obsessive interest in computers *as nerds is to disgrace, IMO ![]()
OK, serious response: I’m pretty sure English isn’t your first language, and one of the biggest problems people learning a foreign language have is getting all of the nuances attached to words with multiple possible meanings dependent on context, especially if those words are informal and therefore more subject to change. This isn’t helped by learning a language out of a textbook that was out-of-date when it was written and has been unchanged for a few years.
‘Nerd’ isn’t really a term of abuse anymore and hasn’t been for a long time; it’s entirely possible to describe yourself as a ‘nerd’ and not come off as weird or self-deprecating. ‘Geek’ is much the same way. Therefore, people call each other nerds and geeks and they usually don’t intend to insult.
(These days, the terms of abuse are ‘neckbeard’ for males and ‘legbeard’ for females. The rather older term ‘creep’ works, too.)
This was worth reading the thread for. ![]()
Next you’re gonna say it’s in the Constitution.
Clearly, there are no true nerds OR geeks on this board. 15 posts in without this? Or this? Or this?
Or even this?
You’re a bunch of puffalopes. Puffalopes, I say!
We call that the Dennis Miller ratio.
It says the mod’'s join date is 7/30/2012 and he has a total of 128 posts - they must be desperate for mods at AMD.
8900! LOL!
You know what made me laugh? When a guy posted once that he thought that the phenols in hefeweizens, especially 4-vinyl-guiacol, were a result of the precursors found in wheat malt, even though everyone knows that they are mostly from the enzymatic breakdown of ferulic acid found in barley husks and are also dependent upon the yeast strains used!
Can you imagine?!?
Precisely!!
