America: A NATION OF WHINERS!!!!!

Check THIS article out:

http://mcall.com/html/pastdays/a_pg001a1_5laidoff.htm

I’ve had IT!!! This article is the personification of everything that is wrong with our soft, overprivileged country!

I’m sick of all you American wusses whining about big corporations laying off people . . and high gas prices . . .and rolling blackouts! If things are so bad . .

. . give up your SUVs, your expensive computers, your big screen TVs . . your boats . . .your cell phones . . .your vacations to Disney World . . rip up those credit cards . . cancel your satellite TV service . . .

and try this:
SAVE . . . . MONEY . . .!!!

This is a country where everyone thinks they are entitled to something.

Were entitled to cheap gas. No your not. Driving a car is a luxury. You will pay what the market bears.

Were entitled to keep our cushy, high paying jobs. Not if your company is losing money, your not.

Were entitled to cheap electricity. Not if you dont help conserve!

Were entitled to government benefits. Not at the expense of me paying more damn taxes, your not!

And this guy’s wife thinks that her husband is entitled to severance pay. For what? Working at the plant for 6 months? YEAH . . RIGHT, LADY!!!

That’s why the Presidential election sucked: George Bush and Al Gore were falling all over each other trying to give all the whiny, lazy Americans their handouts!

Let’s see . . we face a missle threat from rogue third world countries . . millions of Americans with AIDS, cancer and other diseases . . inner-city poverty and crime. But the most important issue for fat, lazy spoiled Americans?

WHERE’S MY GOODIES!!!

Look, I feel badly for anyone that loses their job . . I’ve been down that road a couple times before! And I am not a total bastard- I feel for the emotional pain this family is going through.

But to call up a newspaper and try to elicit sympathy from me? Don’t waste my time.

Hey, if you didnt but that $38,000 SUV, you’d probably have a few bucks in the bank until you got back on your feet!!!

talk about spoiled rotten…how about people who spend all their free time complaining about other people on computer message boards…if you’re so “back to basics” why don’t you turn off the compaq bozo!

You might want to check out this thread. We’re sort of exploring the same territory over there.

I can’t believe you registered just to make that one comment.

First, Compaq is a computer manufacturer, not a noun. He’s using a computer. Who makes it is really irrelevant.

Also, he’s griping over someone else’s whining about how the current economy makes it hard to support the lavish lifestyle that is becoming so common in America. The point Mr (or Ms) Scapegoat makes is valid. People are stocking up on gas-guzzling SUV’s. (Right, 12mpg is a good commuting vehicle…) They are assuming they have a right to great jobs, great consumer goods, and all-around good times. And worse, these people assume the government is in place to insure that the good times keep rolling.

Let me clue you in on a small secret. Scapegoat has it 100% right. One isn’t entitled to all the excesses of a good economy. If you can get in on the good life, great. If the good life suddenly dies, don’t whine. You had your shot, be grateful.

I know plenty of people who would kill for a shot at merely being middle-class.

This rant is also based on the extreme assumption that everyone in the US thinks the same (ie, that we all whine about the same things). If you had simply kept this rant based on this one example of what you’re whining about, I wouldn’t even bother posting this, because I would agree with you for the most part. However, generalizations are usually very incorrect, and making generalizations are near the height of arrogance and ignorance.

But, for those who can afford them…why stop?

Except ‘the market’ is being manipulated by foreign oil producers so they get higher profits. We should be entitled to gas at prices developed from demand, which we don’t get.

Yet, the majority of people do NOT have cushy, high paying jobs.

If you’re referring to California…California has been one of the most efficient users of electricity in the past years, but we’re still getting shafted for various political fuckups and coporate greed. Conservation has nothing to do with it.

So, an extremist conservative, eh? So, you don’t want the government to help out it’s citizens with welfare? Or protection of our country by our armed forces? See, your personal beliefs do not equate to those beliefs being the right belief and the end-all solution to the problem. If anything, this pathetic rant does nothing but display your own ignorance.

Again, assuming you’re omniscient or a telepath, you have no idea what Americans are thinking. Some Americans are indeed fat, and yes, many ARE lazy, and some very well may be spoiled and greedy, but I can assure you that not all Americans are.

So, when you get your ignorant head out of your arrogant ass, let me know.

Yeah, YEAH you tell her, Saint!

And might I add I indeed DO have a Compaq . . and a very, very CHEAP Compaq with a Celeron processor that I got from tons of rebates that I only bought during my states computer sales tax holiday! And I used wedding present money to buy it to boot!

To add, my wife and I probably make what I would say is a pretty comfortable income . . .but live in a rowhome, clip coupons, and own 2 used cars, one with 106,000 miles on it!

We easliy could afford a Lexus, a new house, a state of the art $3000 computer with DSL.

But again . . we prefer to SAVE out money!

You’re entitled to an apostrophe and an “e”. You are!

I’m tired of hair spliters like you. People like you completely bypass the main point of an argument and pick apart smaller details just to try to show how intellectually superior you think you are.

Allow me to demonstrate how you are NOT:

You obviously don’t watch the news.

But, for those who can afford them…why stop?

That’s fine- if they have money saved for when the good times stop.

Except ‘the market’ is being manipulated by foreign oil producers so they get higher profits. We should be entitled to gas at prices developed from demand, which we don’t get.**
Oh, so it’s okay for you and me to make a buck, but no one else? I love that argument. Rich people suck!

Yet, the majority of people do NOT have cushy, high paying jobs.**
Huh? Check unemployment rates lately? I deal with contractors all day long that can’t find help for hard, labor intensive jobs.

If you’re referring to California…California has been one of the most efficient users of electricity in the past years, but we’re still getting shafted for various political fuckups and coporate greed. Conservation has nothing to do with it.**
Goodie for California. As for politicians, every state has the government it deserves.

Again, it’s okay for you make a buck, but when corporations do, it’s greed. Can you say “class envy”?

So, an extremist conservative, eh? . . .If anything, this pathetic rant does nothing but display your own ignorance.**
Please don’t turn this into an ideological argument and label me. You know what I’m talking about: Americans wanting their government to take care of them instead of helping themselves.

Again, assuming you’re omniscient or a telepath, you have no idea what Americans are thinking. Some Americans are indeed fat, and yes, many ARE lazy, and some very well may be spoiled and greedy, but I can assure you that not all Americans are.**
That’s why this past presidential race had so many undecideds. Because Americans could not figure out which candidate is Santa Claus. Polls and newspaper articles give me a pretty good generalization as to what the American mindset is.

I guess since you are not telepathic either, I guess you will NEVER be entitled to make comments on what other people are thinking, right?

That was a good retort. Well thought out. And very classy.

Did you think of that all by yourself, genius?

Another example of our tax dollars at work.

I was just busting my husband’s b*&%s…it’s a joke, you know “joke” look it up in Webster’s (the brand name not the noun)
lol

hey mr more…did I mention “I” can’t take a joke!

Don’t worry Saint- I’m on YOUR side!

I should clarify something, especially for that one dope that tried to trash me above.

I’m NOT busting on blue collar families where the husband and wife are struggling to make ends meet, driving a beat up car, and can barely afford to feed their kids.

I’m talking about some moron sitting in his Yukon at the gas station yapping on his cell phone about how he just had to pay $1.70 for gas!!

Actually, quite the contrary. However, I do not use the news as my means for determining what Americans are like. See, news stations and newspapers are businesses geared to make money, and will only report on what they think will spur interest in their service and thus potentially increase revenue.

I get to know how people think by talking to lots of different people, not having the news tell me who Americans are.

Having a price of gas determined by supply/demand instead of price gouging by foreign oil providers is not simply you and I making a buck. And why, exactly, do rich people suck? Because they have more money than most others? Well, if they earned it, I have no problem with them.

Did you even read my statement? I said “most people don’t have cushy, high-paying jobs”. If most people don’t have such jobs, then why do you generalize Americans as whining about this jobs?

About contractors not having enough workers: In some areas, that may be true. However, the contractor I used to work for has 2 or 3 people waiting for spots to open for hire, so your point isn’t how it is everywhere.

So, because I’m opposed to foreign-oil price gouging, I have “class envy”? Do you even know what the hell you’re talking about?

Corporate greed is FAR different from me wanting to have fair prices on gas. If you cannot see the difference, than you’re even less logical than I thought.

I know more people that DON’T want the government to take care of them than people that DO. Again, I assert than generalizing how Americans think is very ignorant, and I think you should stop making such generalizations.

This past presidential election had so many undecideds for WAY different reasons. Oh, and polls and newspaper articles are mostly skewed or manipulated in some way, and are not an accurate representation of everyone.

Are you truly that dense? I have no qualms with people making comments on what an INDIVIDUAL thinks, because it is possible to know or have a very good idea of what that one person is thinking. However, to do the same for a large, diversified group of people is ignorant, arrogant, and incorrect.

You were busting on “Americans”, and since a very good portion of the population works in blue collar jobs, you were busting on them. If you were simply referring to this one idiot, then why didn’t you address your post towards this individual? Instead, you made a HUGE generalization and I called you on it. That sir, makes you the dope.

**

**

Definitely an overgeneralization. I couldn’t decide, because I couldn’t figure out the lesser of the two evils. You don’t speak for everyone, and you don’t know what everyone is thinking. Quit trying. You’re making a bad job of it.

“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.”

A nation of whiners, comprised of whiners from countries near and far, who came to this land to be allowed the opportunity to whine freely.

A nation where one can make a crybaby post on a message board and not suffer the wrath of oppressive government.

You, and your point, are moot.

You must be a real hoot at parties.

Ho ho ho, that was pretty funny there! Who said I was a crybaby? I’m the one COMPAINING ABOUT CRYBABIES!!!

Which makes you a crybaby.

You’ll come to terms with it eventually.
