I have always loved reading old issues of American Heritage Magazines as my father and grandfather where each subscribers, but I can’t find them anymore except on e-bay? Does anyone know anywhere else that sells them? Is the American Heritage Publishing Company even still around?
Looks like they’re still around. Presumably you can contact them and inquire about purchasing back issues.
American Heritage is now published by Forbes. I like Forbes.
American Heritage of Invention and Technology, a separate magazine from the parent, is one of the finest magazines around. The articles are technically detailed without being boring.
The original magazine is not what it used to be. It’s somehow fluffier, and not because they’ve finally admitted that popular culture exists. A distinct pro-business bias, presumably inherited from - or imposed by - Forbes, is also apparent. (I read all the major business magazines, so I’m not anti-business myself. But the change is startling to an old reader.)
I do subscribe to both, however. There’s really no competition.
Library sales are a great way to find these. People tend to donate magazines to the library, the library will sell them at their monthly book sales.
