What the heck, since everyone else is…
Kimberly Locke - I guess I am the only one who found her alternating between flat runs and sharp highs. I was not impressed, although many, including the judges were. She is not the American Idol. She obviously thinks she is the American Diva. Has anyone noticed that when she receives a compliment, she always agrees, but rarely if ever says thank you? Example: Last night, she referenced Gladys Night saying she was “classy” and said that she was glad that Gladys saw that and hoped the audience would see it too. Puh-lease. She needs to be a whole lot better and have a contract and hit record (none of which will ever happen) before she has that kind of attitude. I admit that I listen to her more critically than most just because I can’t stand her attitude, but if you re-listen, I think you will find that my pitch is pretty accurate.
Clay - When he sang “Somewhere Out There” last night, I realized who he reminds me of – Fivel from American Tale. He has a good voice and did his usual good job tonight, but he does have a broadway quality, which is a reflection of the style he has chosen. He holds every end of a phrase too long, IMHO, and if he would stop that one thing, it would serve him well. Simon was right on the money, but he will still make it to the final two unless the general populous is completely out to lunch.
Trenyce - Randy said she had pitch problems. That is like saying Madonna is not quite an oscar caliber actress. She might have stumbled across a few accurate notes on the way to a very forgettable performance, but even a blind squrrel finds an acorn now and then. My prediction is that she is the one to go this week (although she was not the worst).
Josh - Sometimes the blind squrrel goes hungry. The teeny bopper girls will make sure he stays, though.
Carmen - Much better this week. Let’s face it, only two of the six really belong there, so telling her she couldn’t win was just wrong. She said she thought she could, and I hope she believes that. It was the right thing to say under the circumstances, but her days are numbered. I predict she makes it another week because she is cute. She would be much better if she got rid of that crazy vibrato. She even uses it with eighth notes. I just don’t get that.
Ruben - He had a fever and a sore throat, but his worst performance to date was still in a league of its own compared to the others.
It will be interesting to see how the public reacts to the judge’s comments, but I am going to predict that they ignore them, and the bottom three will be Kimberly, Trenyce and Carmen. Kimberly will sit back down and Trenyce will wave goodbye. I think it should be Josh this week, but he and Carmen are being supported by patriotism and sympathy (respectively), coupled with their physical appearances.
