American Idol (04/22): Diane Warren Night ...vomit

I hate Diane Warren and all of the crap she has birthed unto this planet.

In order of my preference:

  1. Ruben: He wasn’t even that good but it was slim pickin’s this week.

  2. Kim Locke: I am over my hate for her and can see that she is pretty good (not as good as last week though).

  3. Trenyce: Major trouble spots on some notes. Too much oversinging is her downfall.

  4. Clay: Please listen to Simon and become the next Broadway star. I can not get into him at all. Awful background music too (not his fault).

  5. Carmen: It was better than last week at least. Started decent and quickly declined into the awful last note. Randy is seriously mean to her and clearly hates her for some reason. I think he blames her for Kim Caldwell’s ejection.

(GAP)

  1. Josh: Train wreck alert!!! That was one of the worst finalist performances I can remember. I still can’t get over it. Ugh.

In order of not being terrible: Ruben, Clay, Kim, and then a three way tie between Josh, Trenyce and Carmen.

Unfortunately, I think Carmen will manage to stay alive one more week, with Trenyce or possibly Josh getting the boot tomorrow.

Diane Warren was useless as a judge and she said the exact same thing about every rehearsal. "I love that song. I’m glad he/she picked it. He/she sounded great in rehearsal. I think he/she will do a great job on the show.

You know what would be a really cool theme? An Elton John night. He’s written a ton of great songs and he could be brilliantly catty as a judge.

On to the performances…
Kim L: Very good. She’s a very strong contender. She should be in the final three but I don’t know if she will be.

Clay: Wow, goosebumps. Man that kid can wail. If he would just get rid of those goofy facial expressions…

Trenyce: Probably her best performance to date. One of the strongest of the night. She still needs to find a personality, though.

Josh: Ouch! Find the key dude. Worst performance of the night. Worse than Carmen, even…and he didn’t have the excuse of a cold this time. Josh is out of his league at this point. He has a limited vocal range and style and if he gets out of his comfort zone he sucks hard.

Carmen: Better than last week. Not the worst of the night for a change, but she was still the second worst.

Ruben: Another great performance by the guy who’s going to win this thing. Second best behind Clay tonight.

My top three:
Clay
Ruben
Kim L. (I guess we can just start saying Kim now, the other Kim is gone.)

Bottom three:
Trenyce (who was really pretty good just not in the top three)
Carmen (will she ever go away?)
Josh

Who should go?
Carmen.

Who will go?
Carmen. I think her luck runs out this week.
BTW, Simon has one hot girlfriend.

Can’t believe I read the title and thought it said “Warren Zevon”.

Now I’m just trying to imagine Ruben covering “Lawyers, Guns and Money”

Could Diane Warren been anymore worthless? I lost track of the number of times she said the word “great” to describe the performances. Suckity suck suck suck.

Here are how I ranked the performances…

  1. Clay - “I Could Not Ask For More” I thought it was wonderful. He sounded incredible even if it was another ballad.

  2. Ruben - “Music of My Heart” I can’t tell if Ruben forgot some words and covered it up with a run or he really just meant to do a bunch of that stuff. As always, he sounded pretty good.

  3. Kim L. - “If You Ask Me To” She missed a few notes, but was mostly very good. Simon told her that “looks wise, she was almost there.” He also mentioned that the straight hair worked much better for her than the curly hair. I thought she looked great and sounded pretty good.

  4. Trenyce - “Have You Ever” If she asked if you’d ever heard this song sung better, I would say yes. She was all over the place vocally and I didn’t really care for her performance. And what was up with those pants? Do people really wear jeans rolled up like that?

  5. Carmen - “Love Will Lead You Baaaa-ck” I thought it was nice, but Randy and Simon were right about her having no chance of winning. It also wasn’t a very good choice to end that song with “baaaack.” It only showed off the fact that she has that vibrato (goat) problem.

<extremely large gap>

  1. Josh - “That’s When I’ll Stop Loving You” He’s still making the ugly faces when he sings. He was absolutely terrible. . . it was so bad that it was actually painful to listen to him. Even Carmen was better than Josh. If he doesn’t get the boot, America is seriously screwed up.

Agree on Diane Warren, too nice.

Speaking of too nice, Paula Abdul’s attempts at trying to say something different while being nice has just become mindless babbling. Can someone please make her stop?

Kim L - Very good. She has grown and improved, she said she’s more confortable on TV and I guess it shows. And I have to agree with Simon in that she is looking better, too. She’s dressing much better.

Clay - Great as always. Sorry, but I am a Clay fan and I don’t care if some think he’s “Broadway”. I like Broadway and I think compared to Ruben he has a stronger voice and a better range.

Ruben - Typical Ruben. Good, but I’m still not seeing anything different from him. Maybe he sang a little higher tonight.

Trenyce - Not too bad, but not special. And I totally agree with Simon, she does not show any personality in her performances.

Josh - Ouch! He tried to go from Country to Boy Band and it was just awful. He could be out this week for that.

Carmen - I just don’t like her. I think she should have been off the show long ago (specifically the “Call Me” incident ). I don’t know that she was the worst tonight though, so she could be sticking around another week … ugh! But I was a bit put off by her cocky attitude when Simon said she couldn’t win and she said she could. I guess she has lots of faith in her fans and their power-dialers. Well, they got her this far.

Anyway, if it’s Carmen or Josh voted off, justice has been done. If it’s Trenyce that’s not so good. If it’s any of the others, then that’s just wrong.

I really don’t have a problem with Carmen saying she could win it all. I mean, what else was she supposed to say? I’m completely out of my league here and you should vote me off right now. Of course not. She had to say she thought she had a chance.

Kimberly: Very good–she’s improved a lot over the past few weeks and I’m warming up to her since she toned down the attitude. She should be in the final three.

Clay: Is Clay. He’s very talented but I agree with Simon that his future is on Broadway and not as a pop recording artist. His face is creepy so Phantom of the Opera would be perfect. I’m a little bored by him.

Trenyce: Her best performance since the rap sheet was made public. She’s good but not good enough to be in the final three.

Josh: OH. MY. GOD. That was just awful. He sucked. There are no words to describe how awful he was.

Carmen: Goatgirl made my head hurt and it’s about time somebody told her she blows–thank you, Randy. In fairness, she did much better than last week.

Ruben: Terrific, as always.

My rankings:
Kimberly/Ruben
Clay
Trenyce
Carmen
Josh

Trenyce, Carmen, and Josh are all dead men walking. I really want to see Carmen go. I don’t see Trenyce kicking it up enough to get into the final three although if one goes along with the theory that this is about finding a pop idol rather than just a great singer, then she, instead of Clay, should be in the final three.

I want Ruben or Kimberly to win. Alternatively, I’d like to see Ruben cover “Werewolves of London.”

I missed it except for Josh and Carmen. Did Josh do something to his hair, or were there red lights above him? It was very distracting.

Clairol sponsored the ad during the show today. They all had their hair colored or highlighted.

Hi Grace.

Well, I thought she could have just said something noncommittal like “we’ll have to wait and see” or “never can tell”. It seemed a bit out of character for her.

Hillbilly Queen > There was one of those “sponsor commercials” where the Herbal Essence people gave hair makeovers to everyone (except Ruben), Josh got some bronze highlights.

My rankings:

Clay: Ha Ha! Finally someone refered to him (implicitly) as Broadway Clay. Yet, he did have the best performance of the week.

Kim: She really IS sneaking up on the ‘Top Two’. She could easily win this thing. And the straight hair is definetly cute.

Reuben: Did a good job, but nothing really special (for him). Needs to broaden his range.

Trenyce: She was alright. Nothing great.

Josh: Not that great.

Carmen: Ditto (Josh and Carmen were equally last).

Carmen goes.

I’m less concerned about her reply to Ryan’s question as I am about her Miss Clairol advertisement. If her parents don’t like her wearing revealing clothing, I wonder what will they think about the fake orgasm when she was washing her hair. Gimme a break! The American public should not be exposed to that kind of horror.

Oh, Randy and Simon, why oh why did you have to tell Carmen she wouldn’t win this thing? Hear come the sympathy votes.

Bad Josh! No Biscuit! He should be gone tomorrow. (Can’t believe I’ve said that since I’ve been campaigning for Carmen to go for the past three weeks. You should see my little Carmen voodoo doll with all the pretty pins sticking out of it! I am now thinking that Carmen’s little flirtation with Broadway Clay is just to cover up the fact that she is really doing one of the Very Big Producers to stay on the show! Or maybe she’s just one of the Undead. . .)
Bad Josh! Boo!
And how come I never heard of Diane Warren? It’s probably a good thing since I didn’t really like any of the songs tonight.
And why wasn’t Ruben in the Clairol commercial?

I think it’s because Ruben shaves his head. I seem to remember one episode when he wasn’t wearing a hat and he had that cueball thing going.

I am paying waaaay too much attention to this thread. I think I’ll go pretend I have a life.

NOOOO, faithful viewers don’t be misled! It is Carmen who MUST go (even if she is hot). Josh actually can sing decent when he tries!

Heh. But considering what he did with Sweet Home Alabama, yhere’s a chance he could pull it off.

Carmen could do Weregoats of London.

orry I’m a bit late. I spent a slew of time voting. I voted for Trenyce at least 240 times and I voted for Kimberly Locke at least 20 times. Hope it’s enough!

Anyway:

Kimberly Locke–Oh! Very nice! I’d say better than the original! I’m with Simon.

Clay–He looked wonderful! But, I’m sorry to say, he did not grab me like he usually did. It was good, but I wasn’t impressed. Yup. Simon’s right. Broadway. My mother, however, said that he would win. Okay.

Trenyce–Looked stunning. My God! I can only say perfect. Maybe it’s because I adore her, but her flaws were unnoticable to me. Simon did have a point, but I didn’t care.

Josh–Damn…not as good as last week. I didn’t like the performance at all. Yea, I’m with Simon and Randy.

Carmen–It’s not like she was awful, but she was still cringe inducing. She sounded like a sheep at the end. Yup, Randy is right. Not even close. Yea, better than last week, but not good enough. Again, she never has been. I think she fell on her sword when she said that she could win. FTR, I was tempted to vote for her a ton to get her to win as a joke, but I changed my mind. HEhhe.

Ruben–AWWW! Huggy bear does it again! Not as good as “Billboard Night”, but much better than last week! Wonderful!

Order of like:
(Top three is always changeable)

  1. Trenyce
  2. Kimberly Locke
  3. Ruben
  4. Clay
  5. Josh
  6. Carmen

Course because I’m cynical, I’m guessing that Trenyce, Kim L and Carmen will end up in the bottom three with poor Trenyce(despite voting my rear off for her and hoping that Carmen will finally get the boot!) will end up getting eliminated. (CRY)

My husband and I just recently started watching (within the last two weeks), and this was the first time we heard all of them sing.
Kim sounded really good.
Trenyce was OK, but I don’t like her style (and she’s flat)
WTF was up with Josh?!?!?!?! Holy crapola!! If he sang like THAT to his girlfriend I’m surprised she married him.
Unfortunately, I was talking on the phone during Carmen’s song. Maybe it was more fortunate than I thought! (I did catch the last few seconds - opera uses that much vibrato honey, not pop stars.)
Clay sounds great, but he really should be on Broadway.
I love Ruben!!
