Carly did a really nice version of Come Together. She definitely has the pipes. I thought she could have given it a little more edge, though.
My wife and I play “what would you do,” and I’ve had my Beatles night song chosen for years.
“Honey Pie”
I think Ryan should lend Paula some of his meth.
Seriously, Paula looks very tired. My husband says Randy has her dancing and singing for some CD and video. She should try some sleep.
Didn’t some rock band do a cover of “Eleanor Rigby” around 2000-ish?
Hmmm…looked like black spandex tights/leggings in the wrong size, when it gets pulled so tight that it looks shiny. Not a good look (says the woman who hadn’t heard of high-waist pants last week).
That’s what I was just thinking.
When Jason said he’d do If I Fell I was looking forward to it, but it ended up disappointing. I wish he’d used less of the strings, more of just him and his guitar with the backup singers doing harmony and the melody unchanged.
Carly kicked ass! Best performance so far. She needs some ink on the other arm.
Chickeze did a great job too.
The refrain was a bit strained, I’ll give you that.
“Eleanor Rigby” is one of my favorite songs. That said, it seems like a weird choice for something like this.
What was that Ryan was just saying softly to Simon that Simon reacted to badly to? “No, I would not!” Was he telling him to button his shirt again? Good grief.
My money’s on Archuletta doing “Hey Jude” or “Blackbird.”
I’m not particularly impressed with anyone except Chikiezie, just for the song choice alone.
And now it’s time for Captain CombOverForward with this painful rendition of “Eleanor Rigby.” Yick.
Somewhat off-topic, but I’ve got a recording of Robyn Hitchcock (with a backup band) doing the entire White Album live at a benefit show, including Revolution 9. It’s pretty impressive to hear a band covering that song.
Didn’t like Carly’s performance. Come together needs that rawness. Carly voice was great, but it smoothed the song into just another pop piece.
David Cook. Way to be obvious. Lame. Complete garbage.
Syesha was okay. Serviceable vocal, good energy, kinda just a placeholder for me.
Chikezie rocked out! I was amazed, totally didn’t expect that from him.
Remiele looks like the forgotten Olsen triplet. Not feeling any love for her, ho hum.
Jason is just so pretty, and the guitar and dreds help, but god love him he’s just not a very strong vocalist.
I adore Carly, I’d so be interested in seeing her live.
David the Combover started out really boring, looking like he was doing an American Idol contestant impression, then greatly improved. I’m not sure about this guy, he keeps me guessing.
Hmph. It started bad, but maybe got a bit better in the end. Color me unimpresed overall, though.
Tried real hard to like emo guy but I just can’t.
David Cook was not good on the low notes.
This is definitely a bad choice. Seems he thought “the chorus will be a blast to sing all rock-like,” without thinking “oh yeah, the verses are far lower and pretty monotone.” Blech.
Pretty good rendition of “Eleanor Rigby.” That was the best performance of the night I think. it was reminiscent of his emo Lionel Ritchie song last week.
Well, that sucked.
So did some sucky pseudo-alternative band with a name like Sponge or Drain do this song a while back? Because that had “duvet” written all over it, a la Daughtry/“I Walk the Line”
David Cook was not as good as I expected. The chorus was strong, but the rest needed some fine tuning to be really memorable.
