Regarding the lack of touch in these singers - we’ve noted that as a huge failing for many contestants over all the years of AI. Good singing isn’t a technical thing so much as it is a feeling thing - if you don’t feel it, and you don’t make us feel it, you’ve just wasted all of our time. Which is not to say you can be technically terrible and still hope to have a career (Bob Dylan notwithstanding) - you need both.
I liked or could at least tolerate most of the men in this group, while the opposite was true for me in regard to most of the women, especially Stevie and Kasey.
I also like Anoop, (The girl that went first, I don’t remember her name… Something Tohn) and Oil Rig guy… but I thought their performances were lower tier. I also thought Ricky Braddy had a decent voice… but was SO boring. My wife had to wake me when he was done.
All the rest were pretty bad. Especially poor Stevie and the Police/Tea girl who were cringeworthy.
What the blue fuck was Tohn wearing? Did she think it was flattering in any way? It distracted me in such a horrible way that I can’t even opine on what she was singing.
Police girl ruined ELTSDIM. First, I hate when singers change the gender of a song - generally. Some folks can do it, but most can’t. Sing it as it’s written. And as others have said, she just didn’t have the ability to handle that song.
Black dude who did “Rock With You” - trainwreck. I wondered how he got this far in the competition.
I thought Ricky Braddy was great. I never noticed him before, but he has an awesome voice. His song was shit but the talent shone through.
Danny did a great job, though I wanted him to crash and burn, because I’m going to tire of the sad music that comes on when they show his wife. I give him props, though, because Ryan pitched him a “MENTION YOUR DEAD WIFE!” softball after his song, and he made it about anyone who had dealt with a hard time in life. He obviously knows that we’re tiring of hearing his tragic story.
Tatiana. Good lord, that was well done. And I’d prefer a normal Tatiana to a drama queen one. The producers definitely have their favorites, as she had about 200% more face time on camera than anyone else. They didn’t even try to hide the fact that they were in the tank for her and Danny.
Speaking of producers, I’m figuring someone is getting shitcanned for all of the glitches yesterday. The dead air when they had the wrong tape cued up. The part when Seacrest said “Look into that camera” to a Idol parent and the camera never switched. Haven’t they been doing this for 8 years?
But you know the real tragedy? Ms. Tohn’s outfit is going to be on entertainer training films. “Never wear something like this in public…”
Considering the context, I kept comparing it to Kelly Clarkson’s version from season 1. It’s the moment in that season that I said, “Holy crap, she’s fantastic!”
