American Idol, 1/13/09

So, two-hour audition special tonight. I hear rumors that they’re going to be focusing more on the good auditions than the bad ones, which I like–I enjoy having rooting interests by the time Hollywood comes around.

Who’s going to be watching this year?

I’m going to be watching, but I always watch the auditions. If they focus more on good auditions than bad, I’m going to be disappointed.

I guess I am finally out. I work on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. I do plan to get DVR soon but I really want it for other shows, like Lost.

I have found the audition shows more and more painful to watch. The amount of time they spend giving backstories on some of these people that they then turn around and reject, is ridiculous. And I can’t help thinking about the poor delusional Paula Abdul stalker who killed herself.

The auditions are the worst part. I always sit them out, but I might take a peek to see what this new judge is like.

I lost interest in the middle of last year-- boring contestants. None were that good or that bad. The best part was the weekly Idol thread. When the Idol thread is a factor of 10 more entertaining than the show, well, it’s time to give up on the show.

Since I not-so-secretly have a black, black heart I am disappointed that there will be less bad auditions. Perhaps the producers are feeling a little bad about the Pauler stalker they knowingly let audition.

Hey, did you regulars miss me? Tell me you did even if you didn’t. It’ll be like all those bad auditioners whose family and friends tell them how great they even if they suck harder than Ginger Lynn on crack.

I have the same opinion. And I think it says something bad about me personally. What does it mean that I only find this show entertaining when people are humiliating themselves? I don’t like bland pop music, so by the time they get down to people who they consider “good” I’m no longer interested. But boy, as long as someone’s wearing a screaming yellow jumpsuit and wailing away at “Fat Bottomed Girls” I’m happy as a clam to sit and think about how there are people in the world dumber than I.

I watched for the first time last year. So happy that David Cook won. I think he is a fantastic singer & I hope he has a great career. Odds are I won’t find anybody like that on Idol this year, and there are too many other shows I’m interested in this year on TV. So I won’t be watching.

Ahhh, perfect timing – football season ended on Sunday, but the AI season comes in two days later as a fill-in.

Woo-hoo for toning down on the losers and the clueless – yes, we all got nice PALATR moments from them, but once we got to the Hollywood round, there was always the issue of “why didn’t we see this person’s audition?”. Show me one or two caterwaulers per episode, maybe one three-minute segment if you find someone spectacularly bad, but other than that let’s concentrate on the talent.

And I’ll reserve final judgment for the moment, but my gut tells me that I won’t care for a four-judge format (yes, I know, there were four-judge days when they would have a guest judge, but guest judges were by and large useless). Hopefully this is just transitional while they show Paula to the door.

I think I’m out this year, too. I’m already watching Biggest Loser and recording Scrubs on the DVR on Tuesday nights. I need to give up one thing (can only record/watch two at once) and Idol is going to be it. Why does everything have to be on Tuesdays?

It starts tonight? A Tuesday? Dammit. My mom will NOT give up Biggest Loser so I can watch it…

Jeez, half our regulars are gone already! I’ll watch, at least for a while. I can definitely get my husband to watch the bad audition shows…after that, I don’t know.

I’m really worried about the fourth judge. More stupid judge-babble is not what the show needed.

I’m only watching this year because we finally got HD. I suspect that’s not such a great reason and I’ll bail quickly.

Remember last year when Seacrest went on and on about this being their best group ever? Remember how they were really all so boring? Remember how Archuleta sounded like he needed to blow his nose all the time? I’m getting the douche chills just thinking about it.

I agree with the poster who mentioned all the wasted time on backstories of people who didn’t make it.

I will watch this show as long as it’s on. See you later.

There’s one bit of good news: the producers are not going to put us through Idol Gives Back this time around–so they say–because they figure that cash-strapped Americans don’t want to be harangued to dole out more money.

I kind of liked Idol Gives Back. Too long, but the performances were usually memorable.

Halle-forking-lujah. When you’ve seen one monotonal divo/diva with delusions of grandeur, you’ve truly seen them all. I’m like you — show me the talent.

I’m excited and happy! A lot of the format changes sound great (less bad auditions + more hollywood week!). I don’t like the sound of a 4th judge, but we’ll see. I head somewhere they are reinstating the Wild Card round. That’ll be neat!

How will they decide who goes to Hollywood if the judges split two and two? Simon gets an extra vote?

Last season was the first one I really paid attention to. Loved David Cook, but since I’m superficial, I didn’t really love him until he fixed his hair. Assuming hubby goes to bed early tonight, I’ll be watching.

I don’t like the skank with the piercings and the tats. She can sing ok, but nothing special. And she puts on the makeup with a trowel.
ETA she’s also a bitch for ditching her band.
