American Idol: 2/8

That guy who was so standoffish to his group to begin with – does anyone else get the impression he’s “special”, in the “got a psychological problem” way? Something like high functioning autism, maybe.

Oh Good Grief were they ever bad!!!

Aaron needed a scrunci and to stop singing “Sugarpie Honeybunch” as if it were “Sixteen Tons”.

Timothy starts off as Peter Brady’s “When it’s time to change… then it’s time to change.”

Then Lamar comes in and well… it’s Lamar’s limp-wristed dancing style from Revenge of the Nerds. And then ends with a shout-out to himself.

I love this show!

So can anyone tell me if Ozzy Smith III (or whatever his name was) is still in the competition?

I’ve been looking for him but haven’t seen him unless he was in a grop shot. There was a guy doing backflips but I don’t think it was him.

What about the big woman with the long curly hair?? There was a shot of her practicing (with 2 guys?) then nothing!

I’m really becoming addicted to this show. My nephew got me interested in it last week. Last night was very good, but it seemed many got through who were, in my opinion, crap. The white shirt guys. Also, the ones who were practicing in the lobby all day, with the one fella who ended up forgetting most of the words. I was shocked they got through.

There was one guy that bothered me, and I’m glad he didn’t make it through. He was the one who originally auditioned with his brother, then came back and tried by himself and got through. He had a really soft/feminine speaking voice. I wasn’t a fan of him because he is too boy-bandish for me. I’m happy to see that they are making what I would consider unconventional choices.

I’ll admit they bombed, but one of those guys (the heavier one) is a really interesting guy, and I was relieved he got a pass.

I don’t think he’s “special.” But at least one of his colleagues referred to him as “Planet of the Apes Boy.” Exactly. Look at his eyebrows. I expected Charlton Heston to pop in, stage left.

You can download the entire episode, commercial free (in 3 parts) from this site.

His dad, Ozzie Sr., was at a local (SoCal/L.A.) event for RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) last night, and a reporter asked him if his son was still in the competition and the answer was “yes,” which I’m thrilled to hear. However, I’m a bit concerned that he’s had no screen time, and therefore no opportunity for the viewing audience to grow to like him and want to root for him, like they have with David Brown and Anwar Robinson (both of whom are great, but why showcase them over Ozzie??!). OTOH, they managed to (intentionally?) sabotage Scott Savol by showing some weird behavior. His voice is amazing, though, so I sure hope he gets his shit together, because I’d like to see him go far in this competition.

Shayna: I heart you for that link! I had no means of viewing last night’s episode. Thanks!

You’re welcome! (Though in the interest of full disclosure, the “last night” Queen Tonya was referring to was Tuesday’s episode, and last night, Wednesday, hasn’t been uploaded for viewing yet, but hopefully it will be available soon).

And speaking of no screen time, remember Bao Viet from last season?

Well, apparently he’s back this season and is in Hollywood, but heck if I can recall even hearing his name mentioned, let alone seeing him on screen. Did anyone else see him, and I just missed it, or do the people at TWOP have this info on some inside scoop or something?

Has anyone checked on that one girl to see if she died from not being able to express herself through music?

Let me add, though, that until the video is available, if you do nothing else, go download the audio of the performances of Anwar, Jamar & Mario, and Danny, Matthew & Scott. I promise you won’t be disappointed, especially by the first group.

And Dio, BWAH!

Wednesday’s videos are now available to download at that site!

Ha! The way she sounded all “why bother trying anymore” after she was sent home, she probably has a DNR.

I was going to come back here and say how much the Anwar/Jamar/Mario performance blew me away. Very good!

Shayna – thanks for the link! You rule.

I thought it was cool to see Anwar (who is a music teacher) coaching the other guys. He seemed very natural as an instructor, helpful and authoritative without seeming bossy or condescending, and the other guys were really listening to him and learning. I’m betting it was Anwar who arranged and taught them that little harmony tag they did at the end of their set.

So far he seems like a really easy to root for guy. He’s my wife’s favorite at the moment.

He was definitely aloof, and I was suprised when he actually sung well. Maybe he just smokes a lot of pot or something. I don’t understand the planet of the apes reference.

Does anyone else think Danny Steward looks like Randy Jackson’s kid brother?

So I just watched part 1 of 3 for the video. Then I went to download part 2, and it’s the same file as part 1! And so is part 3! So they uploaded the first part and just assigned all three links to that file. Bummer. I was really getting into it.
