American Idol - 3/15 & 3/16

Anwar was singing a song that is hard to sing, doesn’t really flow. LVandross does it good, but it’s never been a very listenable song for me. Maybe he was doing the Bacharach version though, never heard that one.

Mikalala destroyed one of my favorite songs. Her pronounciation was ridiculous.
Constant I think did the best, hate to say. I love Vonzell though. If any of these put out an album right now, I’d buy hers first. None of the others are my cup of tea.

Randy had a bug up his ass again, seems like he’s been that way for a while. I’d like to see the voting without any input from the 3 amigos once. I wonder howmuch they influence it, and Lord knows they try.

Oops! I think you’re right, I got so used to two at a time getting the boot I forgot that they only send home one per show during the finals.

And I thought she was going to lose her trousers. They were certainly sitting low on her hips!

(Chiming in!) Bo and Nadia will be having their own competition because they are far and away the best talents on stage. Everybody else, even Adorable Anwar, pales in comparison.

My vote to go tomorrow: Lindsey. She really sucked!

And I don’t think Constantine is so bad. Why does everybody hate him?

Well, in past weeks he was far more into mugging for the camera and molesting the microphone stand than singing. Tonight was good, though. It was a nice (if surprising) change.

Anthony~ would have done better in the earlier seasons, raising the age limit and allowing seasoned performers in hurts this kid. He’s going from being the star of his junior/senior high choirs to being just one of many and that’s tough enough to deal with, add in all the confidence experience brings and he’s hit. Did well with the song, but I had to stop and question if it was ever that ballady since I remembered it as more beboppy.

Anwar~ is so huggable I wanna bake him cookies. And feed them to him, rowrrr. Did a fabulous job singing a song that’s not that much fun to listen to. Vocally, he was totally in control and did everything right, bad song choice to showcase what he can do. I voted for him.

Bo~is an excellent seasoned performer, he’s got the experience and confidence to own everything he’s doing, even if he’s not the best vocalist and lacking in range. He was cracking me up carrying the mike stand, if you’re gonna wander why carry the stand around with you?

Carrie~I forgot this was an Everly Brothers song, I associate it with Linda Ronstadt. Well done, a bit uneven in some spots but the best white girl onstage tonight. I voted for her.

Smirky McSmarmovich~ now I remember why I liked his first audition! He did very well exposing the Broadway-experienced side and not pretending to be a rocker, but I still think he’s icky.

Boob girl~ not a flattering outfit, she looked chunky. I’ve been waiting for better things from that big ol’ voice but I don’t think she knows how to really get there. Decent performance but meh.

Lindsey~ I can’t stop seeing Julia DeMato here. Lindsey’s good, but not consistently good enough, she’s outta her league but will be kept around as eye candy.

Mikalikahoohah~ Tonight’s makeup was actually an improvement, she always applies with a trowel but it looked like someone was maybe helping with the color selection. I watched her tonight, especially when she replied to Simon’s guesstimate that the crowd must agree with his poor review by stating that the audience looked fabulous anyway, and figured she’s what would happen if Queer Eye’s Fab5 raised a daughter.

Nadia~ absolute Goddess-like perfection. She looked great, although that dress was sorta Grandma’s beach cover-up, she once again chose a fabulous song to make the best of her voice, just a wonderful performance. Love this woman, and realized suddenly that she’s not 9 foot tall, even with the hair she’s Seacrest-high and that shocked me. I voted for her.

Nikko~I agree that I kept expecting him to go higher, falsetto, something. My attention wandered from his singing to once again wondering who’s in charge of the arrangements for the show. So maybe not his fault, but not interesting enough to hold my attention either.

Scott~ Good vocals, the ‘now I’ll interact with the audience!’ part seemed contrived. I just do not like this man, and I so wanted to since he’s got such a good voice, bah.

Vonzell~ Damn she looked incredible! I don’t know if the song choice was right, but she’s consistently a good solid performer, I agree with Simon that she needs to break out and be a great one soon.

Randy was a prick tonight, he seemed impossible to please unless you were already one of his chosen favorites. “I’m not feeling it” isn’t exactly the most constructive criticism in the world.

Paula seemed stuck on stupid, she just needs to stop talking. Half the time she opts out of having to say anything negative and goes for nonsense niceties, the other half when she’s trying to say something about the vocals she’s flat out wrong.

Simon was fun.

Nadia, Bo and Carrie are the best performers, I agree with Simon. Are they actually better singers than all the rest though?

Bo - I joked to the SO about the mic stand, and aside from being pretty rock (Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler has made a certain art/schtick of it), it felt like he was saying “I’m coming down to your world to kick ass. I’ll either do it with my voice, or beat you up with the mic stand. Your call.”

Scott - …on the other hand, he should have just stayed on stage. Not only did it look too contrived, but I thought he’d have to pause like a climber about to reach the top of Everest to make the effort. He lumbered down and lumbered up. And looked bored with himself while doing it all.

And I definitely assumed Nadia and Bo are the other two who “know who they are in this competition” besides Carrie. And if those three last (with a final ranking of Nadia, then Bo, then Carrie), I’d be quite happy. Yes, Nadia to be the Idol. Bo to have a better music career, but I just can’t imagine him making it as a studio vocalist a la EVERYBODY WINNER SO FAR. He needs a band to call his own, and I don’t see how the Idol contract (from what it appears to be after three winners) can give that to him. We did catch a glimpse that Nadia could hold her own fronting a band when she did “Try A Little Tenderness,” but she’s a vocalist first and will do fine with studio musicians. Carrie will have an illustrious career in country music from this, and since she’s very much eye-candy for me, I say all the better for her to solidify her career by staying in Idol until the end.

Constantine actually did pretty well this time. I also would vote for Bo, Nadia, and Anthony (yes, Anthony). And maybe Scott, although something about him makes me think he’s half-asleep while performing.

The others can go home now.

Ditto to about everything everyone has said so far. Except anything positive about Constantine. (ok, I’ll admit he did a hell of a lot better this week, but I still hate him)

I guess beauty really is in the ear of the beholder, because there are people out there who seem to like Mikalah. I won’t be able to figure that out anytime soon. She was so awful my ears quickly developed muscles and folded themselves shut.

Does anyone else get the impression that Pauler is being a little hard on Farm Girl Carrie? Everyone else who sucked heard that they did their best, were in it to win, or some other nonsense. Carrie actually got as close to what Paula dishes out as a slam. Seems like that’s not the first time either, but I’m too lazy to look into it.

Nadia won the evening IMO, with Bo close behind.

I’m predicting that Lindsey’s a goner. I think Nikko will be in danger too, but will muster up enough sympathy votes to squeak by.

Did anybody see Mario on David Letterman? He did the Top 10 List. It went something like this: Reasons why I quit American Idol.

#1. Ah screw this! I quit this too!
You had to have seen it. It was funny.

lol.

So is it official now that the most dangerous place in New York is between Mario and a camera? Exactly how many appearances has he done since the weekend? Seems like a lot.

I TiVo’ed it. I saw him in a Letterman preview during another show, but he wasn’t on the Letterman guest list, so I was afraid I was being bamboozled.

Carrie. Sweetie. Hot.

Obviously I’m not with you on this one.

When I closed my eyes, Constant Cheese sounded just like a woman!

Mikahoohaa is not the performer I thought her to be, so disappointing. However my year-old son found her appealing.

Bo - Yum!

Bwahahaha.

Nadia was good & didn’t look as much like a Q-tip as on previous occasions.

Somebody needs to tell these contestants that pauses aren’t their enemy. No need to show off your voice every single second! Let the song happen!

Also, I thought someone should’ve sung Cher’s early stuff. Now I can’t remember who it was.

Lindsay, maybe? She has the same kind of deep voice.

I’m not going to rehash the whole evening. Three thoughts on the ‘rockers’ though. First, Constantine did OK. Second, Bo consistently picks THE most boring “classic rock” songs available… you know, the kind that sound like generic “classic rock” songs without a memorable melody or lyric. Third, and most importantly – it’s 60’s night, you guys are the rockers, why did you both pick boring R&B songs? No Doors, Constantine? No Steppenwold, Bo? Neither of these guys are rockers. It’s one stage singer with long hair and one wedding singer with long hair.

There you rock people go, always wanting a pedigree. You guys are worse than the American Kennel Association. Not rock enough-- what does that mean? I think other genres should start getting just as picky–

You call that a ballad?! Why, that song was a little fast over the bridge-- that’s not a real ballad! Real ballads are slow all the way through!

Gah! What a pretend country singer. Hank Williams Jr-- hah! Everybody knows C&W died with his dad!

There’s no way he’s an R&B singer. Michael Bolton sang that song and he’s white. Real R&B songs can only be popularized by black singers!

Funny post.

I’m not a “rock person,” though, and I’m talking about pedigree. I’m talking about song selection. The “rockers” chose the same kind of tired R&B songs everyone sings all the time. The contest isn’t mixed up or changed for their presence.

Can someone catch me up on what happened to Mario and why Nikko is back?

Thanks!
