I think LaToya has a fantastic voice and is easily the most professional of all the contestants. Not such a great song choice, though. She’s beautiful and classy, and she can control her voice. Frankly, I’d put money on her to win this thing. If I was 19 Entertainment, she’s who I’d want to win.
Camile - How is this girl even in the finals? No voice, no stage presence. I think she squinched up her face and danced awkwardly in order to cover up her continuing terror at being on the stage. Honestly, she’s like a puppy about to piddle in fear. Just horrid.
Jon Peter Lewis - way out of his league vocally, and he looks and dances like a Muppet. Don’t underestimate the Mormon teen vote that inflicted Carmen “Goat-Throat” Rasmussen on us last season.
John Stevens - I think he’s a cutie, but his voice just isn’t versatile enough to last much longer. This performance was awful.
Jennifer Hudson - She wasn’t unpleasant to listen to, but she is way over the top in her performance. I want to like her, though, because I think she’s gorgeous.
Amy Adams - little mini-Maude continues to look about 40 years old even though she’s toned down the eye makeup. Her voice is average good, but I do have to say that she’s trying really hard. She’s too square through the middle to be wearing crop tops. Without the pink hair, she’d be indistinguisable from…
Diana DeGarmo. I really dislike this pageant queen and her little squinty face. She’s Tracy Flick from the movie, Election, I swear. Her voice is good, but her calculated high-school play/theme park performance bugged. (Simon nailed it in his criticism.)
Jasmine Trias was so good that she distracted me from my desire to rip that flower out of her hair and make her eat it. She really owned the stage, and not in the obnoxious way that Fantasia did. I think Jasmine’s problem will be consistency and keeping on pitch.
Fantasia Barrino - I know a lot of people think Fantasia is a favorite to win, but I don’t get it. I don’t like her raspy Macy-Grey-lite voice, I don’t like her Reach™ flip-top head, and I think her personal style is as low-rent as Kimberly Caldwell’s was last season. She bugs the crap out of me. I thought her going around to the band members during her song was obnoxious and calculated. She actually turned her back on the audience and cameras at one point.
My homeboy George Huff: I really really like George a lot. He needs to tone down the grinning and bouncing, but otherwise, he’s very good. I’m glad he got the “anchor” position of last in the show.
