American Idol 3/30

I think LaToya has a fantastic voice and is easily the most professional of all the contestants. Not such a great song choice, though. She’s beautiful and classy, and she can control her voice. Frankly, I’d put money on her to win this thing. If I was 19 Entertainment, she’s who I’d want to win.

Camile - How is this girl even in the finals? No voice, no stage presence. I think she squinched up her face and danced awkwardly in order to cover up her continuing terror at being on the stage. Honestly, she’s like a puppy about to piddle in fear. Just horrid.

Jon Peter Lewis - way out of his league vocally, and he looks and dances like a Muppet. Don’t underestimate the Mormon teen vote that inflicted Carmen “Goat-Throat” Rasmussen on us last season.

John Stevens - I think he’s a cutie, but his voice just isn’t versatile enough to last much longer. This performance was awful.

Jennifer Hudson - She wasn’t unpleasant to listen to, but she is way over the top in her performance. I want to like her, though, because I think she’s gorgeous.

Amy Adams - little mini-Maude continues to look about 40 years old even though she’s toned down the eye makeup. Her voice is average good, but I do have to say that she’s trying really hard. She’s too square through the middle to be wearing crop tops. Without the pink hair, she’d be indistinguisable from…

Diana DeGarmo. I really dislike this pageant queen and her little squinty face. She’s Tracy Flick from the movie, Election, I swear. Her voice is good, but her calculated high-school play/theme park performance bugged. (Simon nailed it in his criticism.)

Jasmine Trias was so good that she distracted me from my desire to rip that flower out of her hair and make her eat it. She really owned the stage, and not in the obnoxious way that Fantasia did. I think Jasmine’s problem will be consistency and keeping on pitch.

Fantasia Barrino - I know a lot of people think Fantasia is a favorite to win, but I don’t get it. I don’t like her raspy Macy-Grey-lite voice, I don’t like her Reach™ flip-top head, and I think her personal style is as low-rent as Kimberly Caldwell’s was last season. She bugs the crap out of me. I thought her going around to the band members during her song was obnoxious and calculated. She actually turned her back on the audience and cameras at one point.

My homeboy George Huff: I really really like George a lot. He needs to tone down the grinning and bouncing, but otherwise, he’s very good. I’m glad he got the “anchor” position of last in the show.

OMG GOD…WTF is with this bottom 3??? No John? No Camile? Gah!!

Yet again, more proof that the American public is a bunch of morons. Tone deaf morons, at that. Feh.

Oh…and the bootee:

Amy Adams

I suppose I should have actually said who the bottom three were:

Amy Adams
Jennifer Hudson
LaToya London

LaToya was sent back to sit down, bottom two were Amy and Jennifer.

Wow. That was just all wrong wrong wrong. When it got down to those last two that were going into the bottom three, my first thought was “Why did they pick someone so strong to make us guess between? There’s no suspense here.” But what a surprise!

Did anyone else thing John Stevens looked about to cry after he was declared safe? I think he knew how bad his night had been and really thought he’d be down there. I’m glad he didn’t get booted though. I like him, in spite of last night.

I think the problem with letting America vote is the fan base that people get. If I were to call in and vote, I’d probably call in more than one person. Once to do my fave and once to do who I thought was best. See how wrong that is? We should honestly be voting for the best, but nooooo… We vote for the cutest or something stupid like that.

Was Amy in the bottom three every night? I can’t remember. She just must not have the fan base. She’s not bad, but she’s not good either. I do think she has a cute personality though, in a way.

Wow, that’s got to be the most bizarre bottom three in show history. LaToya? WTF?

Amy is really annoying and I’m glad she’s gone but there were others who sucked worse. People must really be voting protectively and they’re not voting based on performance. This is crazy. We could end up with Penboy or [shudder] Camille as the winner at this rate.

I wonder if the voting would work better if it were more like the Survivor method…vote for who you don’t want to advance each week, until it gets down to the final two, then vote for the winner. That way, there would be no preventing people’s fan base from keeping sub-par people in the competition.
Maybe even the way that Star Search manages their voting, which is a small window of time after each performance where you can only vote once. And the final score is a combo of the judges’ scores and the public’s.

I don’t know…there’s got to be a better way.

My guess is that people who liked LaToya didn’t bother voting for her because they thought she was safe. I am sorry to see Amy go, though. I liked her personality and her voice. Maybe she can head over to Nashville Star…

WTF???

As much as I like John Stevens, which is a lot, he was terrible. Dreadful. He needs to stick to his niche, and I will then adore him. It should have been him or Camille.

I’m beginning to see why people say this thing is rigged. Tonight’s lineup made no sense at all!

The problem with that is that the person the MOST people liked could then be voted off. In a larger field, anywhere more than 5 or 6, it’s entirely possible that the same person could have the most #1 votes AND the most last place votes. This would be especially true of anyone who took risks and chances; someone who was safe could fade into the background and be neither loved nor hated, and keep surviving based just on that. You’d reward safety and mediocrity.

Actually, that probably WAS the worst bottom three in show history.

But he can’t stick with his niche on Motown night. Next week is supposed to be Big Band week, so he should fare better.

No, he certainly can’t. I had the feeling this would be a bad week for him, and it was.

I guess he’s got more teenage girls drooling over him than even I thought. Huh.

Amy Adams wasn’t the best of the AI contestants but she certainly wasn’t the worst. I can’t believe that Camile Velasco wasn’t even in the bottom 3. I can’t believe that John RedHead wasn’t in the bottom 3. What’s wrong with these people who are voting for these two no-talent wonders?

As much as I would lose all ability to talk if I ever met Camille (what can I say, she’s beautiful, or I think so), Amy deserves to be there far more than Camille does. LaToya London in the bottom three? She is far and away the most talented singer. She doesn’t miss. To be honest, ever since the final 32, I never really thought it was much of a contest. She’ll blow the roof off over the next few weeks, you can quote me. If she doesn’t win, I’ll be shocked.

Mr. Rilch, a little while ago: “Oh, way to go, Rilchie! You and fifty thousand other chicks, all power-dialing for your little boy toy and stealing Amy’s votes! If Diana gets booted off before that geek, I’m holding you responsible!”

How in the h-e-double hockey sticks did Camille stay out of the bottom three? Oh right: by the same means as John stayed out.

And something I read on another board: Last night, JS had a killer migraine. Not that that totally excuses his performance, but the lights must have been brutal to him, and it explains his holding-back-tears expression after the performance.

Sorry to see Amy go. Really; I’m not kidding. Glad it wasn’t LaToya, though: that would have been a disgrace.

Dissapointed :(.

Amy Adams was FAR better than some of the dreck last night.

Sampiro, you’re always a riot to read, but I have to disagree, old boy.

John Boy is no Josh Groban, no Sinatra, no Michael Buble, no Steve Lawrence, yadda yadda yadda.

Red’s got a nice voice, a fine voice, but the chasm between “nice” and Big Act is immense. Red thinks he’s a crooner, a big band boy, but his voice is thin and undeveloped. He’s a one-trick pony and his future ain’t the Kentucky Derby. I wish him the best, but I doubt five years of voice lessons will take him to the professional level. Doing the VFW-Lions Club Dinner Dance circuit? No problem. Vegas? Uh-uh.

On another note, does ANYONE find the sound really muddy? Listen to a good CD and everything is sweet and distinct. Listen to AI and you get this wall of mud glurging out your speakers.

Yikes! The crossed phone lines that allowed voters from Bizarro world to vote have been activated again. I thought for sure we’d be seeing the two Johns and Camille in the bottom three, though I thought John Stevens was by far the worst of the bunch.

I was going to predict that George would soon be the only male left in the contest with five or six ladies, and we’d likely have our first all-female finale, but after tonight, I’m completely dumbfounded.

Did you see his mouth fall open when Ryan called LaToya down instead of him? I will say this: he is f*ckin’ humble. Unlike Leah, who pouted through the entire results show the week she was booted.

Speaking of Leah, and I know this is way after the fact, but I’m glad for her sake as well as everyone else’s that she’s gone. Did you notice that her mom always looked really grim every time there was an audience shot of her? Everyone else’s people look ecstatic, no matter how bad the contestant sucks ;), but Ms. Donna Summer of Bulgaria or whatever she was gave the impression that she was just waiting to get backstage and rip her daughter a new one. Here’s hoping Leah goes into a totally different line of work: something her mom knows nothing about.

In my opinion, the one with the best voice of the whole lot was booted last night. Next season, they should just go ahead and fill the roster with cute boys and hot girls, and maybe add a swimsuit competition or something. Once again, blech.

WTF? I was planning not to vote until I decided who I want to win (and to tell the truth I don’t like anyone that much), but now I think I’m going to vote just to help get rid of that bitch Camile!
