American Idol 3/7

So I just listened to it (from watchidol.com) without watching, so I could hear how it sounded without seeing it “performed,” and on 2nd listen, I think she actually started out better than she ended up (which is exactly the opposite of how most other AI performances seem to go). The problem for me comes down to her lack of range – the more upbeat part practically sounded monotone to me, which is what lends itself to coming across as lacking in any emotional connection with the song.

Janay is totally this year’s Camille Velasco, but thankfully I don’t see her having the rabid Hawaiian fan base, so I think tonight’s Janay’s last night. It’s the best thing, really, as she always looks petrified up there.

Gah, I was wrong about Sam Cooke. I had Tenderness confused with another oldtime standard.

Men:

Scott: He certainly can sing, but I don’t think he has anything beyond that. I mean in terms of showmanship. I don’t think it was good enough.

Bo Bice: God, I love him! He’s done better in the past, but still very solid as always. You know, during the performance, I had a feeling that he could win the whole thing. Hope I’m right!

Anthony: Excellent. Best I’ve see from him.

Nikko: Decent, but weak compared to other performers.

Travis: Very entertaining. Not the best voice, but a great performer.

Mario–Meh.

Constanting: A virgo? NOOO! Anyway, bleagh. Slaughtered a Police song like a PIG! That made me sad. I’m with Simon.

Anwar: Oh wow. Just wow. Superior.

Who should go: Nikko, Constantine. Who will go: Travis, Nikko (but, I worry about Bo for some reason. Tell me it’s unfounded).

Girls:

Amanda–Very good. Best I’ve seen from her, but I do agree with Randy and Simon. Might not be good enough, but she’ll probably make the finals. She just won’t last long.

Janay: Really off on some parts. Not that great at all. Should be the next one to go and rightly so.

Carrie: Despite being off on some parts, she was excellent.

Vonzell: Loved it! Just loved it! Very entertaining.

Nadia: Excellent. Loved it. Strong voice, strong performance.

Lindsay: She looked AWFUL! EW! Just awful all over. UUgh. Easy to ignore too. I ended up watching Yu-Gi-Oh over her.

Mikelah: Great at the end, but overall, meh. She’s not Barbara Streisand and she never will be.

Jessica: Quite good. I liked it.

Who should go: Janay, Lindsay. Who will go: Janay, Lindsay.

I can’t help but think that there may be some upsets, but who knows?

Crap. Constantcheese made it. I could have sworn the contestants who’d already crossed the stage all kind of groaned. They don’t like him, either.

Smirky McSmarmovich Cheesepants stays! I can’t stand him but I find him entertaining in his awfulness.

Thank God-Anwar stays.

You know, if next season they’d only select six people to go to Hollywood, they might conceivably be able to put in a few more commercials. It’d be difficult, but it’s possible.

BTW, I was watching a Hollywood trivia gameshow on GSN hosted by Ryan Seacrest ca. 2000. It’s amazing how much he’s aged in five years. (He was even smarmier then even though he hadn’t stumbled onto the ‘Seacrest Out’ gimmick- he has officially eclipsed John Davidson on my Cheese-o-meter.)

Hmm… Now comes the speculation for who will hit the pavement first. In previous years, contestants could make the top 12 without anyone ever voting for them, but this year they have to have SOME fan base.

Why are they so secretive about the themes of the finals?

Scott? Really? Oh well, at least Bo’s in, not that that was a surprise. Nikko should be there instead of Constantine, though.

I love what Nadia’s wearing. Other than that, I got nothing for the girls.

So my little Nikko goes :frowning: , but we get to keep Mikelah and Constantine .

Was it Hollywood Showdown? If so, that wasn’t Ryan Seacrest although I do see a resemblance.

I was so happy that Scott made the Top 12 that I actually got a little choked up.

Dammit dammit DAMMIT!!! Nikko out, and Constantine in?! Ugh! So so wrong. Janay had it coming, we all knew that. Amanda and Travis don’t surprise me. But oh cmon, Nikko? Gaaahhhh!

I’m tellin’ ya, Constant Cheese is going to be the Nikki McKibbin of this AI, and that frightens and worries me. :frowning:

Not at all surprised by how it went down. A little dissapointed, but not surprised.

From now on they only vote one off each week.

Did you notice Constantine was wearing a Justin Guarini t-shirt? And he calls himself a rocker. Bah!

And to add to his arrogant smarmy cheese, one should point out that Constantine was wearing a girl’s shirt with Justin Guarini printed on it. Wow, so edgy, JUSTIN M’F’in GUARINI! HA!

Idiot.

(I saw it, wasn’t sure, so I asked Only Mostly Missus, watching from her own apartment. She confirmed.)

I was sorry to see Nikko go. I was sorry to see Travis go (although he was abysmal Monday). But I’m glad Scott made it. He won’t win, but something in me is rooting for the triumph of talent over looks. He has a wonderful voice, and I hope he’ll take some risks and let it shine.

So we have to put up with Mikalala for at least another week. With her and ConstantCheese still in, it means there’s a chance my favorites won’t go for awhile.

Just an average singer who stuck around to make it to the Top 3.

Bah, Grace beat me to the punch. I understand what he THINKS he’s doing in that shirt. A witty po-mo statement about the state of celebrity and pop culture, how it’s coopted and meaningless. The way people wear vintage Boston t-shirts or a print of the Pop-Tarts logo. Instead, he looks like even more of a tool than if he had just worn a plain white tshirt underneath his “I’m edgy and rocker” Fonzie leather jacket.

Man, poor Nikko.

Smirky McSmarmovitch might indeed be another Nikki, just as long as he’s not another Fantasia!

(Credit where due, yes the girl can sing, just saying she annoyed half the viewing audience, as does Constantwhine.)
I hope Mikalahmikalaymikahoohay really knocks it out next week. She’s amusing to have around.
