It was especially poignant last week when he was about to praise David Cook and they booed prematurely. What idiots.
I was proud of her. She seemed to take some time to gather the nerve to say it. But say it she did.

Ugh, if
Carly goes, I will be really pissed off-- she’s not even my favorite, but her performance was really the only one last night that had any true charisma or made me not want to go to sleep. Jason was horrible. He should be gone, gone, gone.
But last time Brooke restarted, Paula told her it was the right thing to do. I’m not saying that it was or wasn’t either time (I can’t make that call) but it makes it weird that Paula said never start and stop, when she seemed to think it was appropriate last time.
That was when Brooke sang “Every Breath You Take”. And Paula was actually the only one who said nothing about the restart.
Ah you’re right. I was misremembering (not surprising, my medication makes me almost senile at times, memory wise.) Somehow I had Randy’s comment connected to Paula in my memory.
(I skipped most of the thread)
I don’t know any of the contestants names and last night was the first episode I really watched (can’t help it, I a Sir ALW fan). The girl who did Jesus Christ Superstar did a great job, as did the guy who did Music of the Night. The rest ranged from mediocre to downright horrible. (I have never heard a worse Memory) The girl who did You Must Love Me had that start/stop thing happen and I dont think she did the song justice but to me she nailed the emotion of the song.
It brought to my mind a scene from The Ten Commandments: “We don’t stop a moving stone for one grease woman!!”

I have, once. It was by world’s cheesiest lounge singer and game show host John Davidson, who decided that “this song needs some ACTING!!!” His site (johndavidson dot com) is down at the moment so I can’t link to it directly, but to understand what he can do to a song and just how Don Corleone felt when he said “look how they massacred my boy”, go there sometime and listen to him rape and mutilate Cats in the Cradle.
Jason’s a second, though. Damn "Uhhhhh… "Boy, that was bad. You’ll make a great concubine but for singing, stick to Texas college town nightclubs.
Sampiro I think I love you. Your recaps slay me and thanks for saving me the trouble of searching for the youtube links, I missed the first two performances last night.
I want to be Mrs.Robinson to that Cook boy in the worst way, but if I can’t, then I’m glad you’ll get to have him instead.
If Bill Murray’s lounge singer character sang “Memory,” would it be better or worse that Davidson’s version?
Heh heh.
Oh, it’s ON, you eater of instant grits!
Mmmm, naked on a dolphin…
Who else thinks Paula is doing Jason?
When do the studio recordings become available?
I thought Jason was so cute when he said that he didn’t even know that “Memory” was sung by a cat. You know, it IS stupid that the song is sung by a cat. But I digress. I still like Jason a lot, but he’s about burnt out his candle.
Syesha did well but I’m not voting for her. She belongs in musical theatre. She is a beautiful woman but she won’t sell out any concerts because she’s missing the x factor. I did appreciate that for once she showed SOME personality.
Carly did great. I thought David C was going to do that song. Hated her dress.
I still like Brooke. I actually liked her take on the song. As far as stopping and starting go, Simon & Garfunkel stopped and started on “The Boxer” during the concert in NYC. I love that part of the album because I think flaws make a performance more interesting.
I really liked David C’s version of “Music of the Night.” It had a few unexpected pops which made it interesting.
David A’s rendition just didn’t do anything for me and I’m continually puzzled why the judges heap such praise on him. He ventured too far from the melody, IMO. And of all the ALW songs to choose from…why that what?
I didn’t phone in any votes last night. I Tivoed it, so it was too late. But I would have voted for David C. and Carly.
Sampiro, that recap post made me giggle madly in the datalab. Most undignified. I may have to ask you to be less humorous in the future.
OK, I just have to confess, I’ve been singing The Music of the Night all day. And Think of Me. And Phantom of the Opera. It all takes me right back to my high school orchestra days. But don’t worry, I’ve only been singing when I’m alone. Mad giggling *and * bad melodramatic singing in the datalab would probably get some weirder than usual looks.
Oh, nah-ah, you didn’t… Question my musical taste, lust after my man, hell- trash my family and call me Lucy Nell, I can take it. But when you say I make instant grits you’ve taken the Impala of hate about two Co-Cola signs past the city limits of decency! Off with the clip-ons/and off with the slip-ons cause we’re goin’ at it! Behind the School cafeteria, 4 p.m., Bring it! (Well, actually tonight’s the vote-off, and tomorrow’s bad for me, and I’ve got a dental appointment on Friday… but someday, you me and a school cafeteria at 4 p.m.!)
I can’t imagine what would be the incentive for Jason. The last guy she “helped” didn’t do too well. Though I have noticed that Ryan can’t keep his hands off David C…
I wish ALW was a judge. He’s really funny in a kind of daffy upper-crust British way. He’s like a character from a Wodehouse novel.
Well, that was different, Lord Andrew sitting there on stage with Ryan dissecting some of last night’s performances. I only wish he’d had more time; I’d rather hear his analysis than the judges’ any day!
Really. This week has completely transformed my opinion of him. I’m officially a fan.
The video they’re riffing on in the commercial is “Take on Me,” not “Tainted Love.”
It’s bottom 2 tonight, not bottom 3.
