Well that sucked. I really liked Siobhan. She was geeky and cute, and she could really sing well when she wasn’t screaming. Also she was geeky and cute. The kind of girl I would have had a serious crush on in college. Damn you tweener Aaron-loving voters!
(And if I can’t be that shallow and superficial when judging a show like Idol, well, when can I be?)
“Sons of Sylvia” is the band that won “Next Great American Band” a couple of years ago. Then they were called The Clark Brothers. Here they are playing Gimme Shelter on that show. They absolutely killed it.
Those guys can really play. They’re three brothers who are all professional session and touring musicians. I wondered what happened to them.
Holy crap! Talk about jumping the shark spectacular! This feels like a really weird Twilight Zone. It’s not Simon, it’s Ryan!!! FOOLS!! And Siobonbon has been voted off. Nooooooooo!!! Aaron is still in the running? Miley Cyrus was a mentor? Really??
So Crystal is the lone woman standing of the season where the women were all deemed stand-outs. Interesting. Not surprised because I really was tired of Siobhan’s sound. I would have never bought an album by her. I was a tad surprised that Casey and Mike were in the bottom over the forgettable Aaron.
Onto next week: I like Sinatra okay, but standards are boring by nature. That’s why they play them while you’re eating your filet at a nice restaurant. They don’t want the music to compete with your conversation. So I’m at a loss as to why they want these young kids to take them on, especially in a season that could use an influx of adrenaline. Seriously, I’d rather have a “Show Tunes” week and I hate Show Tunes.
Unfortunately, Crystal is as close to a David Cook as we’ve got. Maybe she’ll, I don’t know, import a ukelele player into a standard to try and spice it up a bit. But I’m fearful that it’s going to be lackluster week and lose even more viewers.
At least Siobhan brought the WTF to every episode. Now, it’s all boring, all the time. She completely lost her way, I think. This show is so sucky this year, isn’t it?
They had us giggling with the absurdity of the performance…emo goth Twilight beatnik country? Nothing says good ol’ boy ranchhanding and honkytonkin’ like high-heeled beatle boots and brooding through your bangs while slouched over your electric dulcimer.
Siobhan got daughtried? Noooooooooooooooo!!! Her sing-out rocked though, I realle ythink she’s been crippled by the genre formats–Elvis week, Precious Moments Figurines week, Shania week, poor girl looked like a round 15 Rocky Balboa.
Among the final remaining contestants, I’m not really rooting for any of them to win and more importantly I’m not rooting for any of them not to win. Makes me miss Gokey a little because he was so much fun to loathe.
I’m becoming a Casey fan. He’s learning to control his voice in the service of some good expression. Only a couple of goaty slips this week. When he tries and stretches his boundaries, he gets better. As of this point, he seems on a roll.
Hope he gets the votes to go to the finale with Crystal.
I’m not looking forward to Sinatra week; at the risk of blasphemy, Frank Sinatra bores me to tears. I think I’m on the borderline with this show; I’m watching it at this point because I’m usually home Tuesday nights. If I miss a week, I’ll probably not pick it up again.
He (and the genre) may not be to your taste, but I think there’s a consensus that Sinatra was one of the best vocalists ever, and that “standards” tend to be some of the best songs ever.
So if you don’t like Sinatra/standards, you’ll hate next week.
If you love Sinatra/standards, you’ll cringe as some of the best songs ever written get turned into pop mush by some mediocre vocalists and arrangers.
It’s a win-win.
And I love how they managed to wring 5 minutes of “behind the scenes” out of a 30 second commercial.
