American Idol 4/5-6

Why oh WHY didn’t Nikko do something from The Wiz, dammit!?

Oooh, actually, Carrie could have done an excellent job with ‘When I think of home’ come to think of it.

Nikko reminds me of the diva-off last year, I want votes so I’ll add extraneous vibrato, yeah, that’ll do it!

You have to wonder if Mikalah was sitting home beating her head against the wall seeing Streisand songs being done.

Simon really hates A-fed lately. That WAS probably his worst perfomance to date, though. He was out of key the whole time.

Nikko was ok. I think he’s basically likable and manages to outperform his own talent a lot.

Did Simon vote for or against Afed in the beginning?

Why does Anwar wear those terrible jackets? Who dresses these people? At least his pitch was under control the whole time. Nice change.

Good performance for Anwar. No shaky beginning tonight. He was solid all the way through.

Or, like I like to call it, dirty tricks.

I want Anwar to win so that he could do a show around me (one of these little smoky stages) were I’d go to see him and he’ll see me and we’ll rap and he’ll fall in love with me and marry me and we’d have beautiful babies who could sing and he’d be a great dad and husband who could really, really sing.

What the hell does Bo have on?

Is Bo’s shirt vinyl? Where can I get one? I’m going to Vegas in three weeks and that shirt would look good on me. You know, with a miniskirt and a push-up bra. What? Oh, I didn’t like the song or the performance overmuch. At least he admitted he doesn’t know anything about show tunes.

Biggirl: I heard that Anwar prefers the company of men. Not sure if it’s true, though, because I saw it on the Internet.

I think Simon is actually right that Bo’s last few song choices havn’t been that great and he needs to pick something that showcases his strengths a little more.

Is that Nadia’s real hair? I don’t remember it that big…

Were ya geeking when Bo sang? Love the song, I don’t buy for a single minute that it was a random selection, he did good.

I can’t decide what’s more difficult tonight, stopping myself from singing along so I can hear the contestants or trying not to cringe at the messed up arrangements.

Anwar found his lower register again, yay!

Biggirl honey, you know I got all the faith in the world in your feminine wiles, but he’s playing for the other team babe, how’re you gonna manage that?

Neither do I.

Scott Sabol - The Impossible Dream (Man of La Mancha) - He’s dressed better, nice suit and no dumb hat. His singing is not good. He’s out of key, off-tune and just…blech. I was not impressed in any way. Randy says it was just aight for him. Paula says that it was one of the most heart-felt performances yet in this show. Simon says that his presentation and the vocals were ordinary and Paula rebutts that he is extraordinary. She says she’s proud of him.
Constantine Maurolis - My Funny Valentine (Babes in Arms) - I hate it when he looks at the camera. I can’t fault his singing performance this week. No missed notes, decent arrangement of the song, and he even hit a good hard note there. He should be safe, but I still don’t like him. Randy says keeping it real - this is the best he’s ever sang anything, he doesn’t buy that Connie was a rocker. Paula says she lost it and she is falling in love with him and it was remarkable. She’s so proud of him too and wants to hug him. Simon says he has grown in confidence and he gives the vocal a 7 and he gives the pouting (?) a 9.5.
Carrie Underwood - Hello Young Lovers (The King and I) - The arrangement seems to be a bit off in the beginning. She’s still gorgeous, though she looks extra Barbie Doll today. I love her inflection and tone tonight. She has such a powerful voice. The end is spectacular. She can hit those notes. Randy says that what is amazing about her is that the song is really boring but she sung it really well and it was very controlled and sang it brilliantly even though it wasn’t a good song for him. Paula says she looks stunning and her performance was incredible. Simon says she sang it well though the song was mind-numbingly boring. Simon says her performance was too old-fashioned, like a 1960s soap commercial.
Vonzell Solomon - People (Funny Girl) - This is not my favorite musical song at all. She looks very pretty, not quite as STUNNING as last week. She also has a few vocal missteps but nothing serious. She hits a very nice last note. Paula gives her a standing O. Randy says “wow” you keep getting better every week. Randy says that he agrees with Powell, between she and Carrie a girl might win this year. Paula says it was a bold choice and she sang it in the exact key that Barbara does but she hit the high E flat that Barbara doesn’t even go for. Simon says it was good, it wasn’t great. He said it left him a little cold, it was clinical and controlled. The judges argue.
Anthony Fedorov - Climb Every Mountain (The Sound of Music) - He’s singing a “girl” song and I think it’s out of his range at the beginning. The opening notes were weak. He gets stronger as the song goes but it’s nothing fantastic. Randy says it wasn’t very good at all, it was sharp and flat all over the place. Paula says the song choice was interesting and it was a great twist. She enjoyed it. Simon says it was hideous. Paula says he’s hideous. Simon says everything about it was horrible and Paula says that’s not true. Seacrest breaks in and says let’s not waste time on him and gives the number.
Nikko Smith - One Hand, One Heart (West Side Story) - He’s back with a hat. He managed to not mention his father somehow. This song is just…boring for me. There were a couple of notes in the beginning that were bad but he hits it well midstride and finishes strong. Randy says that he loves that he keeps it contemporary. He says it was a good job, not his best. Paula says he’s a comeback king and the epitome of R & B to AI. Simon says there’s a habit forming that they are hitting high notes at the end hoping that no one will notice the beginning of the song and he says that the beginning of his song was out of key. Paula suggests that he get his ears checked.
Anwar Robinson - If Ever I Would Leave You (Camelot) - Umm…I don’t like the scarf. This is the best beginning of a song I’ve heard Anwar do. It wasn’t shaky like his last several have been. Randy says welcome back baby. He is one of the best singers and the best voices here and it’s good he showed it. Paula says that the second he smiles it melts America’s heart, he’s technically the best singer there. Simon says he seems very comfortable.
Bo Bice - Corner of the Sky (Pippen) - He says he’s worried about this week, musicals aren’t his strong suit. He does it very well, IMO. It’s upbeat, which is different from most of what everyone has done tonight. He puts a little rock style into the song. He doesn’t miss a note and he looks hot, as always. Randy says it is consistently great and he loves him. Paula says that he is in the competition and he is a winner and brilliant. Simon says he’s had two bad weeks and that was a mess. He says he loves him as a vocalist and he is going in the wrong direction and needs to pick something different.
Nadia Turner - As Long As He Needs Me (Oliver) - She looks stunning in that white dress. It’s another slow song, but she makes it pretty sexy with her voice and her choice of outfits. She sings it well, no mistakes that I heard. Randy says it was a great performance. Paula says it was beaultiful. Simon says it was her strongest performance in a while.

I retract my thought that this would be a good night and interesting because of the musicals. They really picked bad, boring songs for the most part from musicals that the young crowd hasn’t seen. They don’t know these musicals from what they are saying in their pre-song interviews.

You leave me to my fantasies and I’ll leave you to yours, you party poopers.
The bests, I think Vonnzelle and, God help me, Constantine.

Oh, I say the hole now…

Nadia was great. I love her dress and her hair.

Now I know what bugs me about Anwar! His voice sounds like, when one of your stereo speakers keeps going in and out. He’s pretty though, which is really all that matters on there.
Nadia wins!

Atleast, for tonight.

My top three tonight would be Nadia, Anwar and (God help me) Connie.

Worst were Scott and Anthony. Scott should probably go but after last week nothing would surprise me.

Has anyone else pointed out how much Scott resembles Frank Black?

Scott: That was just plain bad.

Connie: He got hosed by the mix. Honestly, I can’t say anything about him because I couldn’t hear him.

Carrie: She does have a good voice. Nevertheless, I find her about as exciting as vanilla ice cream over white rice on top of Wonder Bread.

Vonzell: Fantastic.

Anthony: Are you fucking kidding me? That sounded like something I’d hear in the cereal aisle at the grocery store. He sucks.

Nikko: Meh.

Anwar: Did nothing for me.

Bo: Rotten song but he did a good job with it.

Question: Was Paula speaking English?

Nadia: Boring. She is gorgeous though.
I thought Vonzell stood out tonight. Scott and Anthony were the worst.
