What the heck is wrong with the voters?
Turban will outlive us all! :smack:
I wouldn’t have saved him. He’s talented but he won’t win. They should have saved the save for someone with a shot at the win.
I like Andrew better than most here but he won’t win either.
Rihanna RAWKED on guitar! Who knew she could shred?

I am so glad they used the save. Not because I really liked him, but because I am so sick them talking about it.
This season is pissing me off. No way Mike’s performance last night, or his body of work as a whole, should have led to him being anywhere near the boot. Andrew, Katie, and Timjaya should go before him, at the very least, and he should also outlast Lee and maybe even Siobhan and Casey. Honestly, who the hell voted for Andrew?
You’ll notice I completely fucking forgot Aaron. That’s because he has yet to do anything remotely memorable.
The people who vote a lot (and who use the mass voting computer tricks) tend to skew pretty young, so that explains why the kids stick around. Mike, for whatever reason, just isn’t connecting with the kiddies, while Andrew seems to be connecting with some of them.
I learned a long time ago not to get too hung up on the voting order, or even on the winner. Everyone that makes it to the top ten is really a winner. They get to go on the tour and most of them get record deals. It almost doesn’t matter who wins, because the top two or three get the same kind of record deals and same amount of promotion.
Look at Chris Daughtry. He finished what, 4th or 5th? And his career after the show has been as good as any winner’s. Maybe better since he wasn’t saddled with a 19 Entertainment deal (and with their crappy songwriting stable).
Yeah, it amuses me really that people fret about whether a guy goes now or next week. You can’t expect the voters to order the contestants according to your preference, and seriously, the voters and the viewers are different demographics. You’re actually mad that preteens don’t have the same taste as you. Heh.
But I think Mike’s unprofessional/obnoxious move on Ryan cost him votes.
Also, and more importantly, while I was typing this Justin Morneau hit a two run homer and put the Twins on top of the Angels.
Right. I hate that “save” thing.
Any real tension is sucked out. I mean, if top singers(like Lynche) are in the final two, you know they will most likely save them. Now the save is gone, losing means losing, which is the way it should be.
Woo! Go me with the awesome prognostication!
No need to go back and read the entire quote, of course.
Heh.
I’m really torn about Casey. I loved his performance, as a performance. I mean, he really seemed to connect authentically with the song. The emotion was there. So that was great.
But, damn, that billy-goat vibrato is wreaking havoc with what he’s trying to do artistically. He tried to add a little straight tone, making portions a little more “talky” – which I think is exactly the right approach for the opening of that song – but then that vibrato hops out, sends the pitch all over, and totally ruins the effect.
Maybe I’m having a hard time with it because I’ve heard lots of singers with that same sort of vibrato have their voices fall apart once the bloom of youth wears off. I hear his voice in shreds, although it still holds together, more or less, at the moment. Dude carries a lot of body tension when he sings, too, which may get him in trouble over time.
Anyway… switching topics… and maybe I missed a comment upthread, but I was really appalled at how horribly off pitch Lee was this week. It was ALL over the place. I was wondering if he couldn’t hear the accompaniment, it was so bad. And I don’t recall the judges mentioning it. Curious. I’ve had students like that who had great tone quality, but you had to bang out the melody along with them or they couldn’t hold the tune to save their lives. That’s what Lee sounds like to me.
I don’t know if I’d buy an album from Casey (his taste in song choices has been somewhat questionable, although going way off the beaten path for “Jealous Guy” was pretty cool), but he’s the one I’d most want to hang with and would have killed to have front one of my bands. Great singer, seeems to have little ego, very likable, can actually play the guitar and is probably a massive pussy magnet. Never underestimate the value of having a pussy magnet in the band. I’ve only had one (a bass player who sang a few leads) and he increased our fan base exponentially.
Maybe fans of Madagascar.
Why didn’t you say so? I could have shaken a tambourine or something.
Can I join you?
Jim was taking a shower while Archie was singing, and he came out and said, “Who was auto-tuning The Beatles?”
I’m torn on the save tonight; I’ve liked Big Mike from Day One, but his performance this week was mystifying - I think if he’d stayed with his strengths, he wouldn’t have been at the bottom.
It’s quite interesting that the judges want the idols to sound “contemporary” and then proceeed to let them sing the Rolling Stones and the Beatles songbook. There are ways around that, of course: 1. make it seem new or 2. pick a song that feels pretty modern in itself. I think Tim failed with “All my loving”, if only because the song itself is so old. The only more dated love song would have been “I want to hold your hand”. Siobhan went the other way and took one of the songs from the Beatles discography which sounds fairly modern already. “Across the universe”, especially the naked version, could have been written in the past decade (by somebody really good, of course). The problem with her rendition was rather that she out all the sensitivity and intelligence out of it and made it a vapid Disney soundtrack.
Pretty big letdown on the whole. I was disappointed with Crystal, because her performance felt really safe and predictable. I guess I wanted to see more inspired song choices and just… More. More and better everything. Lee probably did his worst performance yet, but his defense of the bagpipes was hillarious at least.
Ok, I missed most of last night’s show. I came in while Rihanna was playing Cat Woman. I saw Mike and Andrew. Who else was in the bottom 3?
Didn’t see it but glad they used the save. I cannot believe anyone would vote for Aaron, Katie, Andrew or Tim over Mike.
Argh.
the third idol in the bottom three was Aaron.
