I haven’t really kept up with pop culture since 1989, but as I watched that performance, I suddenly wondered if there are still dance moves performed today that weren’t invented by Michael Jackson. If he’d never come along, would we all still be disco dancing or doing the Cool Jerk?
I forgot to mention the most annoying thing Kara said the other night: She told Mike that he made Eleanor Rigby relevant to the youngsters of today. Make…make Eleanor Rigby relevant?! My fucking hair caught fire when she said that.
And did Katie mention her goddamn grandma again? Yes she did.
Archie managed to get a bit more stage presence in the past few years. Still don’t like his singing overly but he does seem to have grown more (how could he not?) in his presence.
That Rhianna debacle was just horrid. It went on for about 30 years, had two words she kept repeating over and over, and “rock star”? Oh girl. No. No you ain’t.
I thought Mike was going to punch and/or throw someone while he was sitting there waiting for the reveal. Methinks dude has some, shall we say, anger issues? It’s one thing to visibly steel yourself for a letdown and it’s another to look like you are gonna grab an Uzi and start shooting any moment.
I do want to know who is voting for Kim Jong Andrew. I **know **who’s voting for TUrban but Andrew?
It will be interesting to see how they divest themselves of KJA and TUrban next week. Or mini-Archie. This season is just a huge clusterfuck.
Totally late to be jumping in here, but my thoughts from this week:
The Danny Gokey babies totally made the season worthwhile for me.
This was by far my favorite of Big Mike’s performances. Usually he sings those yucky ballads. Like his “sing for the save” song, whatever it was. Still, I think he was save-worthy.
Loved the weird instruments this week. I’m really sorry we didn’t get to see whatever conversation led to those showing up on the stage.
I’m clearly in the minority here, but I dug Lee’s performance. I like that he got the crowd involved. In terms of confidence in being on that stage, he’s improved tremendously from that “Lips of an Angel” performance, when he looked like he might just pass out.
I like Mike too. Surprisingly, actually, because I don’t usually care much for his type of voice – and there’s a big cheese factor in his choice of songs. And maybe I’m just channeling Kara (oy!) but… his sing for the save left me with goosebumps. I loved it. Can’t explain why, but it did and I want him to stick around.
In a way. It was not the right time for him to go but he should not win. There are 3 or 4 that should go before him.
I don’t get the safe shit. Most people are very familiar with the songs of the Beetles. Nobody changed them a lot. That argument holds no water at all. Maxwel’s Silver Hammer made have been risky, but none of these songs or treatments were.
I don’t know… Casey’s version of “Jealous Guy” was very different. And all in a good way.
The save thing is stupid, and really sets them up for losing someone really good, because now next week the bottom two will be booted. It’s much more likely that someone you want to keep comes up second-last.
I didn’t see it live this week, but I watched Lee and the piper on the web - did all the performers have unusual instruments this week, or just him?
Poor sound quality on the web-cast, but it sounded like they’d corked all the drones - i just heard the chanter, playing the melody. (Or maybe they just miked the chanter. Miking the drones would have overpowered the guitar and the singing.)
Sort of silly to have the piper in full dress; that’s now pretty rare at most piping events. Some of the more casual outfits would have fit the show’s format better.
