American Idol 5/11 to 5/12

Crystal, Mike, Lee, and Casey remain.

What’s this week’s theme?

The theme should be Get it over With.

This week’s theme is ostensibly Songs from Movies.

In reality, it’s cheesy songs from shitty 80s-90s movies, mostly duets. Lots of Disney songs.

It’s gonna be a trainwreck.

Oh, and there will be two

duets

And they will consist of

Crystal/Lee and Casey/Mike

Also, the song list was updated somewhat. Added a few songs, all sucky.

Waitasecond – what the hell is Gonna Fly Now (Theme From Rocky) doing in the song list? I mean, is there really any chance that someone would pick that? Allow me to skirt SDMB rules by posting the complete lyrics to the song:

It’s nearly comical to imagine one of the contestants – standing around, waiting the couple of minutes before some lyrics decide to meander along.

Bonus – in looking up the lyrics, I found that it took two people to write them. “Ok, you come up with 10 or so words, I’ll come up with 10, and then we’ll toss 'em together and see where we stand…”

Not to mention “Lose Yourself” and “Gangsta’s Paradise.”

I’d vote for whoever did any of those until my fingers bled.

No spoilers on MJ tonight.

I pictured Big Mike doing this song.

He screwed up the words already. It’s “You became” not “you remain.”

I predict no judges will call him on it. Nor will they call him on how awful this is. He’s ahead of the music and rushing it.

If I had tuned in for the first time tonight, I’d have hated Lee. Mush-mouthing the lyrics, sharp on the big glory notes, out of breath phrasing, just a bad bad performance.

Honestly, I have no idea what people see in Lee, most of the time. The best he’s been is half-decent, he has no personality, his face looks funny when he sings, and everything he does sounds exactly the same.

That last “carry me” that Big Mike did was very nice. I thought he did a great job.

Lee and Crystal’s duet is really incredible. Lee just made up for sucking so bad on his solo song. This was not quite the moment that Kris made the song last year, but it was damned close.

OMG, I love “Once” so very much and they didn’t bring shame to that song. I really thought Lee was terrific, but Crystal didn’t quite match up to Marketa Irglova from the original. Still, that was one of my favorite Idol performances ever.

Casey doing “Mrs. Robinson”? Well, we know he’s got Kara’s vote! I am cracking up.

I agree, loved it.

I kinda thought Crystal was holding back to not blow Lee away.

That was terrible. Paul Simon will roll up into a ball if he hears it.

As corny as it sounds, I agreed that the duet of the song by Crystal & Lee was a highlight of the season.

I didn’t hate Casey; mainly because I love the mando.

What the hell, Crystal is doing “I’m All Right”?

What is with the Jason Castroification of Mrs. Robinson? I wish he would have rocked it out, a la The Lemonheads.

Anyone get the feeling that this is Crystal just giving a big middle finger to everyone?

I love Crystal for doing a Caddyshack song. And she did it very well. I could understand the words.
