I think this was the weak group. After the blonde chick did a pretty good Melissa Etheridge, it was sheer mediocrity. I was so disappointed.
KIMBERLEY CALDWELL
Very good. Excellent voice and stage presence and she nailed “Come To My Window” in a big way.
PATRICK FORTSON
Boy, that was frightening. A big guy doing Toni Braxton? It didn’t sound good and he looked worse. He’s got a good voice but his choice of song and look were just atrocious. Seems musically talented but he did a rotten job showing it.
J.D. ADAMS
Good presentation but his voice was off key. No way.
TRENYCE
I think she changed her name or something - where’d her last name go? Good voice, good presentation. I liked her second best after Caldwell.
MEOSHA DENTON
The best looking in the bunch and has a pleasant voice but she has absolutely no projection, which makes her sound weak.
BETTIS RICHARDSON
Eh. Not a great voice. Like a lot of the others, he’s done better.
CHARLES GRIGSBY
My third favourite of the show. Did a pretty good Stevie Wonder. Look didn’t really match the song but he gave it his best shot. The best guy in the ground by a mile and a half.
JULIE DEMATO
A lot of people have picked her as a winner. I have absolutely no idea why, but I think the revleaing tops have a lot to do with it. She wasn’t good enough to make the cut, IMHO, if you just look at talent. Mediocre rendition of a great song.
I’d vote for Kimberley Caldwell and Trenyce, with honorable mention to Charles.
I would have to agree with RickJay and okielady (mostly). Kimberley (Kimberly?) is definately my top pick from that group. I don’t know if I’d say that she has the best voice on the show, but she seems to really know how to use it and what her limitations are.
However, I’d have to pick Charles second. Trenyce did a good job, but she sounded a little hesitant sometimes, like she was holding back a little. Definately honorable mention for her, but I think Charles will be going on.

I think J.D. Adams will get picked because teenaged girls vote and vote often. I am amazed because even after all these generations, he still looks like the presidents on money.
Well, that’s kinda the way Melissa Ethridge starts the song, but she builds quickly into “singing,” as did Kimberly. I thought Kimberly did fine. She’s got a powerful voice and she stands out from all the R&B sound-alikes.
Kimberly: I thought she stunk (though I admit that my opinion could be colored by her behaviour last week)
Patrick: I’m sorry, but his outfit did suck. Sadly, so did he.
JD: I thought he was off-key and he picked a terrible song.
Trenyce:: I really liked her, but I’d like to hear her sing more of the notes, rather than growl them. I was ready to vote for her until I heard Julia, who I thought outperformed and outsang her.
Meosha: Nah, not good, sorry.
Bettis: Too bad he didn’t perform very well tonight because, like Paula, I was kindof rooting for him. I do think he has a good voice and stage presence, he just didn’t put it together tonight.
Charles: I thought he was GREAT! I loved the song and I loved the way he sang it. Besides, he’s adorable.
Julia: I thought she freaking ROCKED – WAY better than that Kimberly chick.
I called and cast my votes for Charles and Julia. [crossing my fingers!]
I took notes during the show and typed them up before I looked at what anyone else said, so my opinions would be unbiased.
Kimberly (Got a vote)
–Great voice. I love the smoky quality.
–Hot look. Great stage presence. I liked her dress. In fact, I’ve liked everything she’s worn. And she really knows how to work the blond hair. I’m sure I’m in the minority on this point.
–I like the songs that she’s chosen. Obviously, we share some taste in music.
Patrick
–Voice: eh. I’m really tired of hearing all those vocal gymnastics.
–Look: Oy vey. Was he impressed with himself or what? No stage presence at all.
J.D. Adams
–Voice is nothing special. Nice, but blah.
–Look is boring. Borrrrring.
–Cool presidential connection, though.
Trenyce (Got a vote)
–Great voice. Great vocal style. I’m not sure if that was the best song for her, though.
–Nice look. Great style. Beautiful girl. (alas, we haven’t seen the end of neck flowers.)
–I almost vetoed her because of the doofy name change, but she impressed me enough that I voted for her. In all fairness, Lashundra Cobbins is a pretty bad name.
Meosha
–Voice: blah.
–Look: blech.
Bettis
–Nice vocal style. But I think the judges were right about him being off-key.
–The dancing was annoying. Why did he keep spreading his legs? He looked like Ricky Martin and Christina Aguilera’s love child.
–I can’t put my finger on why, but he strikes me as terribly un-original.
Charles
–Voice: Nice, but not exceptional. I think he’s talented, but nothing makes me want to hear more of him.
–Look: Chee-Zee!
Julia
–Voice: Merely okay. “Son of a Preacher Man” is one of my favorite songs, and IMHO it was a real mis-step for her to have chosen it. She lacked the smoky sexiness of the Dusty Springfield original. She couldn’t come close to the raw power of the Joan Osborne cover. She just sounded like a wanna-be. Not good.
–Look: Bleah. How can someone try so hard and look so boring?
–Wow, what an annoying personality!
My decision came down to this: “Who do I want to see more of?” So, I’m voting for Kimberly Caldwell and Trenyce.
I voted for Julie about 6 or 7 times last night. As I am a 31 year old female, I’m not real sure I’m proud of that fact! I liked her and Charles the best. I’m with Stoid about Kimberly. She sings great, although I didn’t like her performance last night. And since she appears to be a bitch of the ninth degree, she musn’t win.
I didn’t really care too much for anyone this round.
Although, I don’t understand why Simon trashed Patrick’s look and not Charles’. Hello! Charles was the Fresh Prince of Bel Air and looked ridiculous.
I’m looking forward to the next group. There we’ve got Frenchie and the girl she sang with in the last round, and the the big black guy, who I also really like. I think there’s others in the second group that I like too…I just can’t think of them right now.
I do have a sick addiction/fascination to this show, and it was hard to pick between this last night, or the All Girl Fear Factor.
Charles picked one of my favorite Stevie Wonder songs of all time, and he sang it well – that is, he didn’t OVERSING it with all the vocal dithering. So for that, even though I thought he was going to suck from his look, I’m pulling for him.
I think BOTH Kimberly and Julia are evil bitches. Kimberly may be the more conniving of the two but they still rub me the wrong way. How many times can Julia tell everyone what a star she is? Criminy.
Despite the single-name crap, Trenyce has a good voice, but she uses the growly-voice way too much.
