American Songbook, or, OMG- Rod Stewart has done the ultimate cheesy album

Well, maybe the second cheesiest, behind the “Old Standard Singers do Heavy Metal Classics” one, but I never heard that one.

I just saw the commercial. Back view of a suspiciously familiar hairdo (would somebody please tell Rod he’s too old and too fat to carry of the “Rooster” cut anymore), and that familiar raspy voice singing “It Had to be You”. Sounded terrible. “Moonglow”, also sounded terrible.

I can’t believe that they would advertise this album on TV, with audio clips. It sounds terrible. Rod’s voice just was not made for old standards.

Oh god. The end is near!

Yeah, it is a pretty horrible album. I can’t imagine what would make Rod want to do an album like this, but maybe he just feels the need to have something out there, which I can’t fault him for.

My lady and I saw it late one Saturday night in Boston, and thought it was an SNL joke. But…
It’s for real! Aaaack!

We have since referred to this album as Rod Stewart Murders the Classics .

I thought it was a joke also. I saw it late last night and thought I was watching SNL or MadTV.
Funniest thing was that until I heard the voiceover say “Rod Stewart” I thought it was actually a parody of Barry Manilow.
