Americanized Version Of "Absolutely Fabulous" Coming To FOX

I guess because the British version was too hard to understand?

Oh well, sometimes the American versions of BritComs do well (All In The Family for instance). At any rate, here is a Hollywood Reporter blurb regarding casting for the pilot episode.

Are we doing away with “Saffy”? Or are we meant to believe a 34yr old Kathryn Hahn with an adult daughter?

Jennifer Saunders was 34 when she first played Edina Monsoon, and Julia Sawalha was 23 when she played Saffron.

Wow.
Guess I could have researched that first- still, quite surprised. I figured there was at least 17 or 18 years between them.

Is Jennifer Saunders going to write the episodes? If not, why would anybody want to watch?

I remember an attempt to bring Fawlty Towers over to this side of the pond. Harvey Korman was cast for the Basil part. It was pitiable.

I do not recall if it ever made it past the pilot stage. I have grave misgivings about a Yank AdFab…

At one point, Roseanne Barr wanted to do an American version of Ab Fab, presumably starring herself as Eddy. Let us all thank the Heavens above we were spared that.

Wow, some network tried with this one back in the 90’s and it flopped: High Society (TV Series 1995–1996) - IMDb

Two “Fawlty Towers” remakes were attempted, one with Bea Arthur and one with John Laroquette. Harvey Korman starred in “The Nutt House,” another short-lived series set in a hotel, but it had nothing to do with Fawlty.

“Sanford & Son” was also based on a British show, and it did OK.

Oh, and “Three’s Company” was another transplant.

There’s another show about an office and all the crazy people who work in the office doing funy office-related things. I think it’s called “The Bus That Couldn’t Slow Down.”

All in the Family was based on Till Death Do Us Part.

I’ve always wondered how well a show about two aging, politically incorrect boozehound narcissists would translate here in the States. I guess we’ll find out.

Oh, yeah, “Life on Mars” is a current example of UK-to-US adaptation, although it’s not a sitcom.

Citizen Kane?

Well I suppose I could be wrong, but I am envisioning it sucking as much as Kath And Kim.

Beat ya to it: Will there be a US version of Absolutely Fabulous?

Aren’t there already like three dozen reality shows based on the concept?

Yes, but they are about men. This stars two women

The originals appeared in the final season of Roseanne (the one that didn’t exist).

The Office was originally British, too.

I want more of Spaced.
