Hmm. Seems to me that the second batch of semi-finalists was overall quite a lot better than the first.
Ones I’d most like to see again: Diavolo, Ketchi, Light Balance, Mandy Harvey.
On a different subject – I thought going for the Pompayo Family as the Wild Card was a weird choice. And their performance this time was simply a disorganized mess. It really showed that their dogs have a really limited repertoire of tricks, and changing up the costumes/background does NOT make an act ‘new’ in any meaningful sense. Which judge was it whose comment basically boiled down to, “Well, it looked like the dogs were having fun.”
Anyway, why not put one of three acts that lost out on the 6/7/8 place voting? That would have gotten us Just Jerk (dance act) or The Masqueraders (older black singing trio) or Angelina Green (singer.) Any of those would have been better, IMHO.
It’s a nice act but it is just the same routine over and over again with different costumes. The other dog, Hero and Loki is just the two dogs and Sara can work out new routines on a week by week basis. Maybe Simon mentioned it before, but I do think they could have a reality show of their own, life with a family of dog trainers. I recall they’re from Sarasota, I wonder if they had been working for Ringling Bros. before they closed.
Anyway, I really like Hero, great dog very entertaining, and it would be hard for him to win with another dog act in the final, and after last night I think Pompeyo Family might not make it through. A dog act has won before, much to my surprise, but this year has some tough competition.
