And as for his talent. Hell, as a kid flying kites I had problems using the wind, so flying with no wind is pretty cool. But as I told my wife, it’s nice to watch for 90 seconds, but I couldn’t imagine paying money to watch him for half an hour, or an hour, or however long a main Vegas show would last.
The ones I liked were ArcAttack Antonio Restivo - Even though I figured out pretty quickly how he escaped, the atmosphere and the music made up for it. Edit, I’m getting bored by his home made flame thrower though. Christina & Ali - Yeah, I’m the only one here who likes them, I know. Michael Grimm Prince Poppycock
I felt so bad for Kristina Young getting three Xs. I mean, yeah, her performance was horrible and she deserved it. But I still felt bad for her.
If I remember right, there were six acts that I thought had a chance at moving on through, though I admit that two of them were not really “wow.”
Anna and Patryk surprised me. I didn’t like them last week (for the same reasons Howie didn’t). This week they were great. Not super, but maybe good enough to go through.
Michale Grimm. Great performance, whether or not he was really that sick.
Prince Poppycock. Really, I honestly think he has a shot at winning. I know there are other very strong acts, but he’s improving in a way that is leaving some of them in the dust and really connecting with the audience.
Dan (aka The other magician), yeah, the prop arm looked a bit fake, but so do some of Penn and Teller’s props, and they’re practically superstars. Liked the whole of his act more than than Antonio’s and would choose Dan’s act over his.
However, Antonio’s act was pretty good, and I figure will be the more popular, so he’s probably going through.
ArcAttack. They’re good, they got some humor in this week, but I’m starting to wonder if this went on to be a nightly Vegas act, how long would it be before an audience member got killed.
So there’s my six. But five only go through, so one has to go…hmmm, I’ll drop the dancers.
Weirdly enough, the only acts I really enjoyed were the first and last: the dancers and Prince Poppycock.
Both magicians seemed lame this time, Ascendance and ArcaAttack seemed ‘same old, same old’ --which is amazing given that they are both newly invented ‘genres’, and all the other singers were just okay at best.
So who else was totally not fooled by the lame fakeout of having Poppycock, Michael Grimm & the other male singer together on stage? Obviously they were going to send all of them through, because if they didn’t it would have meant that Kite Flying Boy would have automatically gotten a spot in the top 5. (Yeah, sure, he’s a nice kid, and obviously has some kind of mental problems, but his act is dull.)
Seeing the commercial for next week makes it look like they put all the lame acts in this week only to have the next semi-final stuffed full of talent that would easily have passed this time.
The show started 20 minutes ago for us here in the West Coast. I was surprised that all of the first four acts got axed. I mean, yeah, Arcattack has a hard time changing up the act that much, but I thought what they did was good enough to go through.
This can’t be good for Fighting Gravity next week. They pretty much just do the same thing over and over again too.
I don’t know. Fighting Gravity got the most votes during their last performance, while ArcAttack was (IIRC) the 4th or 5th. Fighting Gravity plays better on TV as well. I can see them winning the whole show.
Plus they were already famous online even before the show, so they probably already have a large fanbase.
I am surprised ArcAttack didn’t make it though. I really thought they did something new, cool and different, and did it extremely well. They’re heads & shoulders above Connor and the sister singers (who I thought sounded terrible last night. I really don’t understand how they are still in it.)
Here on the board no-one likes the sisters, except me.
I’m surprised Antonio didn’t go through. I would have put him through instead of Taylor, and I would have put ArcAttack through instead of Anna and Patryk. But, oh well.
I’m just hoping next week that Alice Tan Ridley makes it to the final 10.
Well. A grand total of 50% of my picks made it to the next round. I’m going to have to stop guessing. I’m also going to have to stop actually watching the results show. I was all geared up to yell at the show for poor production values because of the first elimination, only to figure out that it wasn’t a mistake. When it happened, and the way Nick said “That’s live t.v.,” I honestly thought that it had been a last-minute screw-up of the order that the acts were to come out. They even had the celebration fireworks going off on the screen behind them.
Missed the performance show (go figure, Glee reruns trump yet another round of possibly meaningless competition) – what did Poppycock do that everyone so loved?
I did think at first that there was something messed up about that because there were four acts on stage and Nick said something like, “Those are three talented acts up there.” I thought they would bring ArcAttack back later saying “Oops, we messed up. You guys did get through.”
I had forgotten, but now that you mention it, I do remember Nick saying something like “three very different acts,” or “three talented acts.” That whole first segment was just executed badly. If they were going for drama, they ended up with confusion, which sort of messed up the rest of the show. For me, anyway.
