Amsterdam (2022 movie)

I was looking forward to this movie coming out when I first saw ads for it. A comedy mystery with a very meaty cast! I was even going to see it in theaters. But then it got not-so-stellar reviews and did poorly at the box office, so I forgot about it.

It’s on HBOMax now so I just checked it out. I thought it was fun! It’s kinda fast like Mrs. Maizel. The sets and costuming are good. The story was ok, it’s no Poirot when it comes to mystery. But the cast was really good. And it was loosely based on a true story!

Anyone else see it? I’d give it about a 7.5/10. Definitely going to recommend it to my parents tomorrow.

Please hide your spoilers. I suspect a lot of people haven’t seen it yet.

I think the way they shoehorned in a, frankly trivial, historical event really dragged the film down. The great cinematography and performances deserved a better plot.

I got it on the DVR for when it starts raining cats and dogs this week. I know nothing about it. Only recorded it because I saw that blond lady was in it.

Haven’t seen it, but it will be available next week on Disney+ here, so I’ve added it on my watch list, due to this thread.

I watched it yesterday. I enjoyed it. It was a bit all over the place (by design I suspect) but some of the performances were very good (Christian Bale, in particular.) There is one, pretty well known, actor in this movie, but it wasn’t until the credits that I saw what character he played. Chris Rock still can’t act, by the way. I think 7.5 / 10 is pretty accurate.

I kept thinking “God DAMN but that actress reminds me exactly of Taylor Swift!”

Holy moly, those reviews on Rotten Tomatoes are brutal!

Ha! Me too!

We hadn’t heard anything about this film till it showed up browsing Disney+

Certainly good cinemaphotography and Christian Bale is really good throughout.
