Amusing Geography Flash Game

It’s been on facebook for a while. My score was 625,512 – but the top score in the world is 706,610. (Ouch.)

First time:

Score: 387,785
Final level: 10
IQ: 114

Africa and South America were the killers.

It would be better if it weren’t Mercator.

First try: 442.954 pts, level 11. I missed the Marshall Island by 15,000 kms, pretty much as far from anything as you can get on Earth. :smack:
It’s annoying that the map is so small - even places I can locate very accurately on a larger map, I still missed by hundreds of kms…

ETA: IQ 120 - I’m smart, apparently…

The original game, along with many dealing in more detailed areas of the world, so you can practice for the big one of course, is found here. I found lowering my screen resolution to 800x600 helped quite a bit on picking things out.

Dear Italy,

Please move everything in your country down south to where I thought it was. You have far to much crap in the north.

P.S Please tell France to put Paris somewhere in Spain. The countries are far to similar in size and blobby shape at that resoultion, And Spain jumps out much better.

Thanks.

Level 11

Australia was my nemesis. Also, tiny little island nations that you can’t even see on the screen were hard as well.

I got to level 11 and got [Maxwell Smart]this close[/Maxwell Smart] of going up to 12.
However it´s very hard to accurately nail places down, I couldn´t get closer than 100 Km from Bangkok, for example. On the other hand I have no idea how I landed 22 Km away from Myrtle Beach.

On average I think I was scoring withun 300 Km from the target, very useful information for adjusting the yield when I start nuking from orbit all the…

Oops! said too much; ciao ciao!

Things went downhill after I pegged Columbia for the middle of Africa. No, I don’t know what I was thinking…

Needs a bigger map too. I know most European countries if I can see all the borders, but how those countries relate to the rest of asia… no idea.

Russia is the worst, and its former republics; how I am supposed to know where Yakville in Northen Azkrackystan is?

All that mish-mashed cluster of African countries around the Guinea Gulf are toughies too.

Level 11 on first try. Australia and Russia kicked my behind.

Yes I know it’s on Earth! Or at least I guess it is.

Stuck on level 11 here

458,234 points, level 11.

Fucking China!

Points: 420,766

Level: 10

IQ: 117

Did you know that the Solomon Islands are no-where near Israel?

First try, Level 10, 386235 points. If you click too late on the “next” button, you end up placing Chinese cities in Antarctica.

Oh, and the Solomon Islands are in the Pacific Ocean, BTW.

Second try, Level 10, 416319 points. What’s a Benin?

I got 394,969. Smoked ya!

Cool game though.

Hmm, Pearl Harbor? That’s easy. It’s on the only big island out there in the Pacific (on the left, anyway) …now if I could only see it…

Damn, 4000 km off.

Fenway Park is a famous place?

The full site version is a lot nicer with some of the other quizzes which zoom in by region. Try the World Capitals one, which only has 8 levels - I was able to get within 10 km several times with that one. Plus the U.S. and Canada is a Bonus Round (no love for Mexico, though).

The last level is a killer - former names of capitals. Hanyang isn’t too hard to figure out, or Brunei Town, but Oea? That’s just some random phonetics there. I did luck out and pass that one, though.

On the tiny map, I only made it to Level 11, and then tried again but still only made it that far.

But what’s up with “San Juan, Caribbean”? That question should be thrown out.
