Amusing Signs

Discord doesn’t let me imbed it .

True, and I have the same first-look reaction you do. But …

The inherent plausiblity of “invented in Nebraska” is low whereas given the prior of “really was invented in Nebraska” the plausibility of the posterior “in Omaha as opposed to anywhere else in Nebraska” is very very high.

Just another example of how Bayesian logic is inherently difficult for human minds. Even ones well-versed in the underlying math.

That’s a great business name on so many levels …

Can’t let this one go unmentioned

We recently saw several recycling bins, with large signs saying “I Want You To Recycle”, and below that “I empty it in the trash first”.

With a large picture of Uncle Sam.

This was in Canada. Quebec, to be precise. (the “I empty it in the trash first” was in French).

I saw this sticker on the back of a truck. WTF?

Their trucks are fab, and they’re proud of it.

Of course “fab” probably really means “fabricator”. They probably fabricated some custom truck parts. But the fact that their initials are WTF is amusing.

And it reminded me of the trucks for a company called Traffic Management Incorporated I frequently see around here. They appear to supply traffic control devices like signs and barricades for managing traffic in construction zones and the like. And their logo is an orange diamond construction sign that reads “TMI”.

I recently saw a panhandler. He was younger, healthier, and cleaner than most. His sign said:

STRANDED
BROKE
and
SEXY

Not quite a sign, but I saw a circular decal about 6" in diameter on the back window of a jeep or similar. Black background, white writing & symbols.

Arcing across the top it said “Retro”. Across the bottom is said something like “Mobile”.

In the center was the iconic gear shift pattern symbology found on the top of every gear shift knob since the 1940s.

So not quite the same as this example for sale, but close: Manual Transmission Sticker | Redbubble. I chuckled.

let me one up you on a local concrete comp:

always good for a snicker

Thinking of trucks …

Note that the truck pictured belongs to Fluke Transportation, of Hamilton, Ontario.

There’s also a well-known maker of precision instruments by that name. Always thought their slogan should have been “if it’s accurate, it’s a Fluke.”

I once saw a convenience store with a sign out front advertising their sale on milk. The sign said “homo gal $3.99”

Their actual slogan used to be “If it works, it’s a Fluke”.

I actually had a poster from the Fluke company with that slogan on it.

I also had a poster from the Kester solder company showing a bar of solder in a white tux dancing with a jar of flux. The caption was, “Soldering Night Fever.”

The company is Western Truck Fabrication.

A guy I worked with at my last job had this on his FJ.

I saw PRSTGE on a high end Mercedes today.

Partly excused by the license plate frame that read “Prestige Flooring”. Evidently that biz pays the owner well if not so much the workers.
