Amusing Signs

Road trip through Kansas City, MO today. Billboard “The tariffs are high, You should be too”

There’s a large sign about a town away from our house that says, “This is God’s country. Don’t drive like Hell through it.”

I forgot about this thread.
I posted this awhile back, but it’s apropos for this thread.

Spotted in Provincetown. What they’re sorry about is not immediately clear (it is not an inn or anything of the sort).

Maybe there are Canadians present.

Just saw an amusing t-shirt. So not quite a sign, but sign-adjacent.

Very large man walks in where I’m eating. 6’5"+, big thick legs, muscular meaty arms with well-defined biceps & triceps, thick neck, huge head. Fifty-something but still pretty formidable looking. Also equipped with a very large floppy tummy to offset the big but lean extremities.

His tank top had “FUSCULAR” in big bold letters. ???

There were also two smaller drawings up near the shoulders that were hard to decipher without staring at this sorta scary dude. I finally broke their code: a simple line drawing of a side view of a well-muscled shoulder and arm with a big floppy belly as the background.

Evidently the guy has a sense of humor despite his looks. Good thing.

No photo but in Phoenix I saw a Vietnamese restaurant named: PHO KING

I’ve seen a Chinese restaurant called Ho Lee Fook

Seems about right to me.

Enjoy…

I was driving behind a Tesla the other day. On the hatchback, right above the Tesla badge, was a sign that read:

WELL, THIS IS AWKWARD

Hey LSLGuy, thanks for that link. I’ve just been reading the entry for Mile Square (California), which is a half hour walk from where I’m sitting. Later I’ll see what the site has on the late Meadowlark Airport in Huntington Beach.

My funniest sign sighting - which I was unable to photograph, alas - was on California Hwy 178 from Lake Isabella to Bakersfield. The road followed the Kern River through sometimes steep canyons, and there must have been grazing lands atop the cliffs because I passed a ‘falling rocks’-type sign that included a falling cow.

As a fellow SoCal private pilot in the 1970s I’ve flown in and out of Meadowlark. And many others now long gone.

In my early childhood Mile Square was still an operational military auxiliary airfield. Later on it was a mixed use military airfield and public park, where “park” pretty much just meant vast expanses of grass with no improvements or amenities. It was a great place to take U-control model airplanes. Huge, flat, and zero trees to crash into.

Then the military pulled out for good and the entire area was slowly converted to the present form of golf courses, sports fields, kids’ play areas, running / biking paths, etc. It’s one of the few land use triumphs in OC where open land wasn’t simply sold off to developers to build yet another thousand nondescript houses or apartments.

Thank you but I only wish I was a pilot and I don’t want anyone thinking I am - it feels like stolen valor.

Hear, hear.

To get back on topic, back in the nineteen nineties I snapped a picture of a road sign in Slidell, Louisiana: question mark with an arrow beside it. Almost certainly meant “information this way” but it sure looked like “we have no idea what’s down this road”.

umpteenth edit: frickin’ Discord.

I’m a few months late … but that “REFUSE” sign is hilarious!
